-- -- again from Fox News in Washington.
On -- the Republican presidential candidates face their biggest test yet in Florida's winner take all primary.
Joining us now from Tampa is one of the two front runner is former house speaker Newt Gingrich and mr.
speaker welcome back to fox and his son good good to be back with you.
This is -- you came out of South Carolina with a big head of steam according to -- Real clear politics average of recent polls earlier this week you were leading governor Romney by seven points but now he's leading you.
By eight points question what's happened.
But don't Romney has an ability to raise an amazing amount of money out of Wall Street.
From Goldman Sachs all the major banks.
And he has a basic policy of carpet bombing his opponent you know he doesn't try to build -- Mitt Romney just tries to -- that whoever's running it.
And it has an effect were in a very tough campaign down here.
Ironically if you look at the three national polls this week.
Every place else in the country they can't carpet bomb the idea is that I'm representing the scale of change I represent.
The conservative movement -- represent we actually been pulling away from him -- national polls.
Down here -- one of our challenges as.
The think the two major conservative candidates between us clearly beat Romney but we're splitting the conservative vote and I think that's a challenge.
I've been honored to have Rick Perry governor of Texas dropped out and endorsed me last night I was delighted to have Herman Cain endorse me.
The -- talent has said very positive things yesterday Rudy Giuliani compared -- favorably to -- -- compared -- unfavorably.
So we're seeing the conservative -- start to come together.
But I give the governor Romney's campaign.
Due respect for the sheer volume of negativity that they use.
And the sheer amount of money they -- on Wall Street.
Six days before they South Carolina primary you protected predicted correctly and I think you could sense the momentum there.
If you're gonna win that race and in fact he won by twelve points are right it's two days before the Florida primary what's gonna happen in Florida.
Has to be very closely at a poll daily -- we were tied.
We have the 2 polls this morning that show that central -- collectively.
Are bigger than Romney but Romney beats me as long as we split the conservative vote.
We have a tremendous effort under way to reach out to conservatives to get them to see that the only effective.
Vote to stop a Massachusetts liberal from becoming our nominee is to vote for Newt Gingrich I think it's going to be a very very close we have a good turnout mechanism here.
We're very fortunate to have Jose -- who ran.
Marco Rubio is campaign is running our campaign he knows the state really well.
Would have been -- Michael Reagan here on Monday along with Herman Cain Fred Thompson has been here helping me.
Right Todd Palin has endorsed -- so all -- since coming together I think he'll be.
Much much close of these polls we have a shot at winning but frankly it's uphill against the sheer weight of Romney's money and the negativity of this campaign.
Well let you talk about the negativity of his campaign this week you and Romney have run blistering -- -- Against each other and let's take a look.
If we can't trust what Mitt Romney says about his own record how can we trust him on anything by an overwhelming vote.
They found him guilty of ethics violations.
They charge -- a very large financial -- man they raised several of them raise serious questions about his future effectiveness.
Now you say that Romney lies repeatedly in that bad -- that we showed the first when you say he can't be trusted.
Is governor Romney -- to be president -- -- just take those -- NBC is asking to take down the -- that Tom Brokaw and it.
The fact is Romney knows that ad is misleading CNN has done an entire package pointing out them and every single count I was exonerated.
I never paid a fine which is -- -- Romney uses over and over again.
I did not resign at the time I served two more years we passed the largest tech capital gains tax cut in history on employment came down to four point 2%.
We passed a balanced budget act of 1997.
And we balanced the budget out as a result of that -- for four straight years the only time your lifetime Romney knows all these things are true.
He's running an ad that's factually false now let's take my it.
Every single thing in my -- is true and frankly the reason that I was.
Relatively flat and Thursday's debate.
Is I don't know how you debate a person.
In a civil -- -- -- you know sitting there would be being civil when he stands there and he just blatantly doesn't tell the truth and I'll give you just one example.
Romney said he only voted for Paul Tsongas in the democratic primary in 1992 the most liberal Democrat running.
Because there was no alternatives and Larry seven -- Virginia.
Sent out a tweet during the debate.
And said that was just a falsehood.
That in fact he could have voted for George H.
W.
Bush or Pat Buchanan the same day.
Third time after time after time when you try to engage governor Romney we just learned yesterday there were 23 foreign accounts that he did not reveal.
Back when he filed his his disclosures that have now shown up because he finally reveal his his taxes and you know this -- supposed to be great manager.
He misses 23 foreign accounts -- just happened not to be to.
Let me and this has become -- me ask you though about one of in your -- what you say one of the Romney is alleged lies is.
And that is a radio ad he ran charging that you once called Spanish.
The language of the got out.
I understand -- in the debate he said he doubted it it was his -- and of course it turned out it was.
But isn't the basic charge he made -- not -- -- I never used the word Spanish of the conversation I was talking -- -- giving a speech talking about the importance of everybody learning English.
There are 94 languages in Miami Dade college.
I -- gave this talk -- the day conclusions from Miami Dade with the president Miami -- there and they all nodded yes.
And I said we don't want anyone trapped anyone this was not a reference to anyone language.
We don't want anyone trapped in America not able to speak English because English is the language of commercial success English as a language it gives you a better job.
-- he turned that on its head.
And basically -- suggested so that was simply plain not true.
Well all right -- a second.
Here is what you actually -- here's the -- from 2000 south let's take a look.
We should replace bilingual education with emergence.
With -- -- In English so people learn the common language of the country and so they learn the language of prosperity.
Not the language of living -- -- get a now mr.
speaker -- you you're quite right you never said the word Spanish but Spanish is in fact by far.
The language that's most widely spoken in this country and after there was -- -- about it.
You apologized to your comments in Spanish.
That's right and I did so deliberately because it have been taken out of context.
And I and if you look at my apology -- tried to make quite clear there was not a reference is my first of all we talk about about.
As you know well that get origin was a -- for Jewish neighborhoods in the Middle Ages.
The idea the question was whether you or whatever your language background as a country has over 200 languages.
And frankly.
Spanish is the least isolated because as the largest number of people who speak of you have all sorts of people.
Who -- smaller who who speak in very small language and but but here's the great irony Chris here's here's the irony and here's why it Romney's behavior so outrageous.
As governor guess what he was in favor of Immersion in English is so this -- on the debate stage so here's a governor who's for Immersion in English.
Who attacks me because I'm for Immersion and English and it's a way for him to try to to divide people.
And I think a fundamentally false -- -- I wanna move -- but I just wanted to just to button this up because I did look at what is that I didn't I can't use had a Hispanics I had never translated.
Use -- just sad that the words you -- were in artful.
You never sad that you weren't talking about Spanish.
Void -- artful I wasn't talking about any single language and if you go back into the text is usually you admitted yourself I don't referenced any single language.
I -- I say.
English should be the language -- every single student.
Uses the language of getting ahead in America.
You guys stand by that and and I think -- is a misuse of it is outrageous.
You have been going after what you called the -- leads in this country and in fact is -- are hurting America let's take a look.
And what you said this weekend.
The elites the people who oppose me.
Some of the Democratic Party some of the Republican Party and -- -- leaks.
We've become the American couldn't.
-- are the Republican only and how -- -- hurting the countries are.
Why didn't take a fairly large list of of Romney's key supporters are the people who -- in fact.
Operate inside the old order -- people wanna keep the old order comfortable.
I don't I don't bu I wanna change Washington and I would change it decisively.
I've said publicly that that have been made this is a key part of the campaign.
I'd like to see all of the decision documents at treasury and the Federal Reserve for the last three years published -- this goes back to the Bush Administration.
I'd like to find out why -- Goldman Sachs got thirteen billion dollars to the back door from AIG.
From the American taxpayer how was that decision made why did a Parisian bank at nineteen billion dollars from the US taxpayer.
Who -- helped who was -- helped and why.
I think it is astonishing.
The you have a country.
In which enormous -- amounts of money.
Have gone to very very big institutions.
The Dodd-Frank bill is actually increased the size of the largest banks the banks of the problem the -- frank bill is gradually crushing small independent banks and yet.
The Washington power structure and it seems incapable.
Even -- having hearings to look at this and frankly if you look at the list of Romney's top fundraisers they're all for Wall Street they're all from the old establishment.
They all have a vested interest and protect all of the old order.
And I think that's a mistake we need to change Washington not keep it in its current.
Let's talk about one member of that Washington.
Power structure part of the Republican late -- that's Bob Dole.
Who was the senate Republican leader at the same time that you -- the speaker of the house and he put out.
A statement this week about you here it is.
He -- referring to you he was a one man band who rarely took advise.
It was his way or the highway Gingrich have an idea every minute and most of them.
We're off the wall sir how do you respond to that charge and you know -- come from a lot of people who worked with you in the trenches in congress.
In the mid ninety's that you were a great insurgent.
You -- the man who brought the Democrats back to the majority for the first time in forty years.
But that you couldn't manage the house level on the presidency.
Look we try to moderate in 1996.
And he couldn't debate Bill Clinton effectively ending loss we try to moderate in 2008.
He couldn't debate Barack Obama effectively and we lost I think we nominate a moderate this year the gap between Romney care and Obama cares about that big.
I think they'll be very hard for a -- to defend himself.
But let's take let's take a case of a senator dole who I respect a great deal like campaign for 96.
The fact is I led the house Republicans.
-- the first reelection as the majority.
In 1996 the first time since 1928.
I did it knowing that we're gonna have to run ahead of senator dole.
He says I wasn't very -- welfare reform was the first entitlement reform in your lifetime.
The first four balanced budgets came out of the 1997 that the only -- balanced budgets in your lifetime.
We had a billion dollar plus up of intelligence which the 9/11 commissions called the Gingrich plus up and said was the only time.
The intelligence community was helped in the 1990s.
You go through item after item.
I do I ruffle feathers you betcha.
If I go to Washington as president on behalf of an insurgency.
Of American citizens who are tired of being told that managing the decay is the best we can do.
We're going to ruffle a lot of feathers this campaign is precisely about challenging the establishment.
-- -- and I think senator Dole's a quintessential part of the establishment.
And I respect him as a person will have fundamentally different views about the role of government.
I want a very different model and he does and I'm willing frankly to have a lot more challenges to the old order.
Then he would be -- -- I I respect that we disagree.
Well and let me just say -- wrapping this up mrs.
-- that I take your point that when you talk about my lifetime.
You're talking about a very long period of time -- This is I the hitting quite meaning that when I go -- that's our right.
This is -- thank you thanks for talking let us we'll be tracking what happens Tuesday in Florida as there.
Great thank you up next -- --
