Win in Florida sure beats -- South Carolina doesn't it.
Had -- no doubt about that I've I've tried wedding I've tried -- -- like winning better.
Governor do you I -- you step was talking about -- over the weekend the New York Times talking about a change of strategy in order.
To two win Florida and not continue what happened in South Carolina.
What did you personally do different did you change your -- your approach.
Well -- I think -- what we founded in South Carolina was that the speaker had a couple of good debates.
It took out the of the moderator -- frankly and and did so aggressively.
We came down to Florida and said.
We're gonna have some good debates here I think the debates without question where the deciding feature in the the decision of the people here they got a chance to -- by.
View on issues.
And my vision for the country at the same time I sit up to the things the speaker been saying about -- and he was unable to defend those things and I think as a result that people.
A swung over to my support and I saw on the numbers -- was supported by conservatives tea part -- People across the the -- it's -- groups in our party came to my aid.
One thing we've been talking about this morning governor is at 92% of the ads in Florida were deemed to be negative.
And much has been made about whether or not this has been hurtful to the Republican Party and to frankly both of you Gingrich and yourself as candidates because of that.
So the question this morning is will you keep up the negative advertising and in the general election.
Or moving on to the states if and when you become the nominee.
Well you know I can't say what the ads are going to be down the road that the strategists who look at what's working -- -- of the campaigns do decide whether.
To do positive -- contrast ads are negative.
I could tell you this.
If broken -- Obama raises the billion dollars is planning on racing he is gonna be blistering only negative.
And in some respects what's going on now is preparation for what'll happen down the road he will not wanna talk about his record he will instead want to brutalize our nominate.
Will want to talk about his record his failure to put Americans back to work so it would come down I think to a pretty rough and tumble campaign.
And he Barack Obama would certainly have -- plenty of -- by a bunch ads in the latest quarter we got the numbers are here.
President Obama's campaign raise 68 million dollars your campaign has raised.
Twenty million dollars so so far.
But she just out of curiosity -- -- I saw had what we all saw a headline this morning that said that Newt Gingrich did not call you last night after your win which is.
Kind of an unofficial tradition.
-- and she called -- at all after any of these contests.
No -- not after Iowa.
Or New Hampshire.
You know I called him after South Carolina congratulated him and and he was she welcomed that call.
But -- needed to call last night by the way Rick Santorum and Ron Paul and I talk after each campaign congratulate one another on the campaigns the other have have run but.
Speaker Gingrich I guess doesn't I participated that tradition when and he doesn't have your phone number would you like to give it out right now.
Is sure give me yours first I thought -- I thought that one -- that president back then just to sort of the negativity in this campaign because obviously you could assume that there's anger on on his side of this.
The negatives with independence.
For you have gone up 46 to 54% in the last month.
What do you do to turn that back around because we all know that the independents decide the election.
Well I'm pretty -- that overall when you look at the contest between as are the polls at least between myself and -- that President Obama.
It's a dead heat and and that suggests that we have every opportunity that to win the general election.
At that look I think the American people want a leader who understands how to get this economy going again.
Who has the capacity and the stability to deal with the threats we face around the world and it was not someone who spent his life in Washington.
It if you're if you're looking for somebody spent his life and -- minute but perhaps been part of a think tank cover of professor we've got the president that the presidency right now.
If you want someone who has demonstrated capacity to lead in tough situations.
That's something I've done throughout my life and I hope to bring that skill -- But to our nation's capital Newt Gingrich said something last night right away he said it's one thing is clear to Florida.
That it's a two man race is that how you view it.
No I don't.
You know I I listen to Rick Santorum Rick said his view was after Florida it's clear that Newt Gingrich wasn't able to.
Build the support he needed to become a a a strong candidate and he said now it's his turn.
And of course Ron Paul has great support across the country.
With people who were very avidly behind his campaign so.
You know right I think it's kind of presumptuous.
Four for -- -- -- to decide the other people ought to get out of the race and tell him how to do it.
I'm gonna do the best I can't in my campaign.
Hopefully get the support of the American people.
And if I do like get this country back on track.
But I'm but I'm not gonna be -- telling other people if they ought to get out of the race and that I don't want to -- anymore that said that's for the Fed to decide on their own.
Governor a couple of minutes ago we saw you singing -- of the villages god bless America you.
What's to felt -- seeing him last night didn't yet and if so what song.
I think -- -- Happy days are here again I guess -- Back because you know lot it was a double digit loss to South Carolina not many people would've predicted this type of victory.
In Florida especially lost four years ago there when you look at Nevada Maine Colorado Minnesota coming up.
As well as Missouri what state concerns writing -- -- respect but what state do you feel you still have to do the most work it.
You know I dyed I don't know those numbers Brian I gotta I gotta -- I -- I don't think that that it's a sure thing in anyone of those states the dog got it.
Battle and show that I have respect and interest and in the people most states I get to know their concerns describe why I think on the best person to become the nominee and and hope that that they give me their support but.
Look up I'll be surprised if I wouldn't all the contests from here on out I think some of the guys will win in some states Ron Paul is a very strong showing in.
In in Maine for instance Rick Santorum is very very strong in Minnesota.
Bad and perhaps in Missouri.
You know an end in Nevada the of the -- partners are very strong there are able to get their support.
But they may decide to just -- Ron Paul so.
You know it's going to be a battle state to state to state but I think.
In the final analysis when you look at all that the races ahead I met a very good position to get the delegates needed to become the nominee.
And then we move on to Super Tuesday which is march 6 it'll be here before you know it.
A governor Mitt Romney -- congratulations and we'll talk to again sometime soon.
Thanks Gretchen Bryant Steve good to be with you you bet.
