West -- Supreme Court reversed on freedom law.
That I believe will open the floodgates.
For special interest including foreign corporation.
The -- -- oil industry could be the insurance industry.
-- even before I don't corporations you don't know could they don't have to disclose.
That's -- of the drug to Democrats that's a -- toward democracy.
Was President Obama talking about super -- and outside expenditure groups that have changed the face of American politics -- that first -- he was -- in person justices of the supreme court for their decision that allowed individuals and corporations to spend an unlimited amount of money at any point during an election year and that -- -- -- was -- campaign appearance in Philadelphia where he called these organizations threats to democracy this -- power -- I -- Chris -- -- -- we -- here in studio three in the Washington bureau of the Fox News -- having -- -- Tuesday.
It made greater by the fact that my friends isn't -- -- who -- chief congressional correspondent for the Washington examiner who also happens to -- one of -- Eagles out on the trail chasing down the candidates this year is with us back with -- Susan welcome.
Thanks thanks for having me all right okay so that was what President Obama sounded like when he talked about super acts they're corrosive corrupting influence the Democratic National Committee.
-- and -- that actually had a guy stealing it woman's first do you remember that battery can't and it was a person that they described it as a purse snatching visually describe it is a purse snatching.
And then I -- share with you now -- what.
Obama campaign manager Jim Messina told the New York Times.
We didn't an interview for today's newspaper.
We're not going to fight this fight with one hand tied behind our back was so much at stake we can't allow for two sets of rules Democrats can't be unilaterally disarm.
What he meant there of course was that the president is now encouraging people to give money to these shadowy corrosive destructive super -- so that he can fight back against Republicans.
Is this looks like a pretty Smart move for the president.
He has no choice you've got -- there they are being outgunned by Republicans fund raising tens of millions of dollars already American crossroads you know run back Karl Rove.
Is -- it inspired inspired -- Larry you're passionate and fired at our -- and former RNC chairman -- Gul -- and does the right and it 54 million they've raised and it.
Fannie and and what is it Bob what is it what is is -- backing out Democrats -- A tiny fraction that that is -- some signal to their big donors and it's okay now to get this you tax monies that this election is going to be about money.
And I got one of the most interesting things I've read on on the -- politics website which was Ralitsa good isn't it it's a great website was -- you know just isn't a sign President Obama alone can raise a billion dollars.
But they need money they need a lot more money to be able to keep up with Republicans is a high stakes game here so there's -- no way they had they could do anything.
But send a signal that it's okay to support this.
-- allow me to two I don't want to be churlish but I would point out that in 2008 President Obama.
Smashed convention and -- came back then Senator Obama became the first major party presidential candidate.
Since Watergate since the reforms that were put in place -- refuse public financing.
Remember that there that whole -- it's CN your tax form you wanna give a dollar I would -- -- -- but do you wanna give a dollar to fund their right mind would give it right exactly who what we need is more money in politics -- the this system that.
It trades that free money in exchange for limits on how much candidates can -- 2008 Barack Obama said.
I'm going to not take that money so that I can raise and spend an unlimited amount.
And he said that he had to do it so he could win.
So that he gets six campaign finance law and now we're right back to where -- -- -- and so we got elected via the democratic supermajority in the house and the senate if he did not fix and he -- it and he did not really addressed the subject in any -- other -- to talk about it.
Now and then 120 -- try to use it isn't as an issue against Republicans.
But now it's funny twelfth and he is again going to do what he -- go to support institutions that he said were inmate witness.
Now he's going to support them again and he's making the same argument.
I need to use this money which I say is corrosive and destructive in order to get reelected so that I can fix the system at some point does this become an impossible -- to maintain.
Luckily for President Obama the public.
Has a very little attention span for this this isn't important it's it's more important than people realize and they need to pay more attention to this.
But everyone's focused on the economy.
Obama and his in this administration that they are well aware of this and they know that look.
They can either sit around and then take the high road and then lose the election because they were out raised or they can just.
Get on board this kind of fundraising raise enough money to stay in office and the public really won't really care about it -- and of the -- the economy people are focused on.
And other issues certainly not campaign finance -- one of those things that.
-- -- And that's really -- the heart of why the Obama administration can make a move like this pretty confidently and know that it's not gonna come back.
All right -- it -- the reason it's politically astute.
I'd say is that number one.
You're right most people don't pay attention and and these sort of even when the inconsistencies or is clearing.
As what -- heard in the sound there and then what we we saw it yesterday.
Most voters don't pay much attention to this issue but.
He's able to use this rhetoric that will satisfy his base where he says what he wanted to -- fight one -- you wanted to unilaterally -- it down to the Republicans are so wicked.
That we have to do -- thing to defeat them and then.
After that's over we're gonna we're gonna do it the right -- the next three years we're gonna do it the right way it's something that he can say that his base will like.
You've got to look at the evidence is sound.
It's not made the second turned me you know it he can get what he wants right yeah it was a -- you know -- it it sounds good it does it.
Sounds good for his -- and it's mostly ignored ignored by the mainstream so so so that's there and we're gonna talk later in the show we're gonna talk that's Republican 2012 race we're gonna talk to congressman Tim -- Who who's from up there in Ohio.
About the issue that's also burning things up in Washington.
Which is the fight over.
The president's health care -- on the new mandate from the administration.
That Catholic even Catholic organizations have to provide contraception including.
The what some people called morning after tell what some people called plan B when you you know what I'm talking about that they have to try this is causing great -- and it's going to be central to Ohio.
In terms of how the president's we will do all of those things we will also share with you some of your own comments Internet don't worry but do you think that is the president -- -- and we talked about this.
Yesterday on the big show.
Do you think the president is starting to feel more cocky about his chances for -- for you think he's feeling better about his chances it's.
-- all about the economy and that the lower those jobless numbers go.
And you know you've got -- -- economic candidate indicators look promising although on the whole economy certainly not recovered and -- you know job creation go up.
Every month -- -- unemployment numbers go down those of the big numbers I think he needs to to keep him alive in the -- And it's going well for right now and so he needs to kind of grab -- -- that can run with it -- he's -- he's doing exactly that I think.
His approval ratings aren't exactly a 50% but they're going up.
I think the Obama administration knows as long as it is on CN unemployment number keeps going down his chances of winning reelection go up.
And so that's what you're seeing right now he is sounding -- Here and he's he's you think he should okay all right well we held yesterday that 39 weeks is basically like five ice ages -- now.
It's an eternity until the election -- anybody who tells you how this race is going to go exactly including me is it -- -- -- -- boat full of beans.
So that there is that.
They -- to say the economy is it's you know really supposed to improve even slightly.
As the months go on if if it does follow that pattern and you know bombing is going to be and in much better shape than he thought he was in you know couple months -- Who do -- one point 7% growth would seem like good news -- I think Susan is right that if you've risen Obama the new normal is okay.
