City governor -- welcome back to the couch -- -- to be with you guys this morning thank you -- the road is where he well you look fine who -- to go you're about that the halfway point.
What's it gonna take for you to get back on top in Michigan.
Well you know I'm gonna get out in this of people across the state I'll -- Brenda quite a few days between now and the twentieth primary.
And talk about my roots in Michigan and talk about what it takes to get the state working again get the country working again we got a president to.
Frankly has failed on the job he said he was gonna cut the budget.
Deficit in half by the end of his first term actually he's doubled it.
And he -- he get the American people back to work he hasn't so I know what it takes to get America back to work and I know how to rein in the size -- government so.
Those messages -- -- connect with the people of Michigan.
We'll get their support help so well Rick santorum's run an ad right now governor it's called wrong Mo I don't know if you -- scenic route we will -- before -- I'm Rick Santorum and I approve this message.
This time -- firing his -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Romney's trying to from his big government.
Use of are going to back.
You know that that's the nature of of politics which is that you always accuse the other guy of what you've done yourself so my campaign hasn't run any negative ads against Rick Santorum.
His campaign.
Ran attack ads against me in South Carolina and as pat did so and it Missouri so I'm not saying we won't finally go after the guy and but frankly he's been looked after me as that -- -- -- he's but that's pretty good attack everything that elections are no longer than excited that I did a nice body double yeah exactly to have a pretty good and yeah.
That's so what familiar strategy be because in Florida you did go after Newt Gingrich and you don't really -- debates in those two things.
Voters I think said that's why they want to go with you along with your policies.
So what do you do now with Rick Santorum that -- the lead when you do the same type of thing where you.
Have to lay out the differences between yourself and the people you're running against and and Rick Santorum and I have very different views on some issues.
But in particular very different experiences life experiences he worked as a lobbyist then worked in congress and then went back to being a lobbyist so he's never run anything.
I actually ran two different businesses.
I ran the Olympics got the chance to run a state so my experiences as a executive and as a leader I think we've seen what happens in a country when you have a president.
Who has no experience running anything -- -- we have now.
I don't think it's gonna be.
Pretty difficult to contrasts are very difficult to contrast the difference between our backgrounds governor.
How do you one -- about you can adjust and you proven you know he did as South Carolina did not go well he changed tactics in Nevada and Florida did.
Now it seems as though the dialogue could be turning away from the economy just a bit in focusing on that and culture -- and social issues.
How -- you how will you respond to that well and it could continue talking about what it takes to get the economy going I mean I I know some people wanna talk about other issues but frankly.
The issue that that is beneath much of what's happening in this country is a need to get our economy going again to get people with rising incomes.
Gas prices lower more people going back to work that we'll continue to be there and with regards to social issues the big issue that came out was he attacked by the Obama administration.
I'm religious conscience and and that's something which happened in my state some years ago when I was governor.
The that.
If you will the secular.
Liberals in my state.
Try to get the Catholic Church to stop being able to provide adoption because they.
Had a preference for putting kids into homes with a mom and dad -- -- that I worked for the Catholic Church put in place a piece of legislation.
To -- to allow the Catholic Church to stay in the adoption business this group.
This kind of attack a religion is happening all over the country and I'm one of those it's actually not just talked about fighting it.
But actually have fought it well there are a lot of questions now about social issues.
A lot social conservatives are are concerned.
About -- all the candidates stand.
Countries -- its European and the other day former governor of Alaska -- Mitt Romney good guy I've been I don't know if he's conservative enough.
-- -- -- -- -- Which about a spend time with Sarah Palin although she's part just he's on your television -- -- show all the time but I idea.
I'm not quite sure what should be referring to I'm pro life pro traditional marriage.
I believe in the Second Amendment right as governor -- balance the budget.
Every year as an office put in place a two billion dollar rainy day fund cut taxes ninety times you have to change your issues in the past you're you know you're stances on some things.
But each time you become.
More conservative.
Well I think living life tends to make you more conservative and if you've been in the business world you can't help but be conservative because if you don't balance your budget in business you go lot of -- Speaking of business and the economy which is so important to your candidacy went up tax reform.
There's a Wall Street editorial this morning that says since Obama looks like he's gonna continue to talk about fair share.
And people paying their fair share -- Mitt Romney should do this pick up the got -- Mr.
Romney might give his candidacy some life with a straight -- -- For tax reform will you do back.
Well -- -- laid out some things I'd like to do in tax policy.
One is to provide for middle income Americans the ability to save money without having to pay taxes on their interest dividends or capital gains so no taxes.
And those those things for middle income Americans.
And I've also set I'm gonna let a plan at some point and we're working out and that brings down rates for everyone.
And that makes it simpler for people to pay their taxes -- we get rid of some of the deductions and exemptions make that the code simpler and at the same time create a more pro growth oriented tax system right now.
That the -- that the high tax rates keep some people from going to work in and generating the -- -- -- -- a candidate you know that that's going to be president Obama's strategy -- this whole fair share thing not sure how would you combat.
Well we're gonna point out that we're gonna lower taxes for everybody and and that includes.
People for the very highest of the very lowest but I'm not gonna look to find a way to reduce the share.
Paid by the hot very highest income people not the president wants to see if he can't punish some people -- people really understood.
In attacking fellow Americans and dividing America.
And they can vote for president -- that's what he's doing that but I wanna.
Bring America together unite our people and have the revenues that we need.
-- it to balance our budget but not by raising taxes but by cutting the spending that's excessive in Washington at the same time getting our economy going.
-- governor had a ring to some other news yesterday came out late -- the presence entertaining cutting nuclear arsenal to 80%.
Fact that 1950s.
Level is that is that where we should be moving as a country.
Well it's not just planning on cutting the nuclear arsenal he's planning on cutting all of our military.
He's cutting back -- -- actually dollars in the next and you have trillion dollars another half a trillion we'll come after that with the sequestration.
-- compromise that was worked -- was not super committee did not so it's at such a trillion dollars in cuts will have a navy that's already smaller than anytime since 1970.
Our air forces smaller and older than any time since the air force was -- he wants to cut a 100000 troops the world is not safer.
The world is more dangerous the idea of cutting our military is simply -- very very bad idea and before you go I -- you've been seen it over.
The last year so eventually it will be a two man race.
Visited two man race now you and Rick Santorum.
Well you know it's been a two man race many times yeah.
First it was -- -- Sharon decided it'd been me vs Michelle Bachmann that me vs Tim Pawlenty and I was up against arming -- -- and.
