It's not gonna I don't know it's never 300 we have an greener and removed -- That was a late night.
After midnight press conference that happened last night in congress.
House Ways and Means Committee chairman Dave Camp Republican from Michigan and Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus a Democrat from Montana.
Talking about a deal on a 150 billion dollars worth of tax cuts and new spending and unemployment insurance.
-- kinds of stuff that is sort of working and winding its way through congress today.
We're gonna break it -- we're gonna talk about all of that with us still praised be our Debbie -- she's the blue team trained hard he's on the red team and they're gonna help us break it down but let's get the skinny let's get the inside -- before we get to the stand and talk to congressman Tom graves he's a Republican from Georgia he's a member of the Appropriations Committee.
Congressman welcome to the big show.
Great to be rated thanks to a new dornin you know you guys probably know more about this than we do right now yeah.
-- -- we haven't seen already tell I'm learning from you today.
Well that's good thing that you're in big trouble congressman that's so like and to do -- and he.
I took basically what we can gather though is that these three issues.
An extension of the 2% cut in the Social Security payroll tax.
An extension of long term unemployment benefits.
And continuing for a tenth consecutive year to forestall a 27% cut in the payments to doctors and hospitals receive under Medicare that was hammered out late last night and now it's being presented to -- among conferees from the house and senate that's being presented.
Is this thing -- passes this deal -- Yes.
I imagine it will as we've seen with all the compromises and all the -- -- being cut over the last -- plus.
They seem to always pass they get the number of those together but the question is is the right thing to do not think that's the debate in -- he had.
Over the next a couple of days this is this the right mechanism to move forward as a nation as we've -- the president's budget come out this past weekend it was a his vision for.
For our country and it's clearly vision of -- dependency.
And -- -- the Senate's vision which is meant nothing because there's been no budget over a thousand days.
And does this component -- -- uses it to fill any vision positive information that's jet leasing.
OK congressman what do what do you think do you think that this is an acceptable way to proceed or should this whole process be going about differently.
Well I think there there are certainly.
Concerns and that before adding to the debt and adding to our deficit spending you know here for a nation I'm not sure that's the right path.
I'm one who believes it -- you can find other areas in the government to cut spending in order to find these various cuts or wherever they want column but -- Social Security.
Is going to be important to our nation into the future of our nation which I believe it is.
-- I don't I'm not sure that we need to -- -- today and borrow money in the future from foreign nations in order to find it.
I mean all it does it put more debt on our nation more -- on the next generation children and grandchildren.
-- -- -- -- -- -- Now I'll leave the question about what's next assuming that as you say there are the votes there to pass this that this this will find its way through looming out there.
Are a lot of appropriations questions there's an overall spending rubric that was passed last year is part of the debt ceiling increase.
But specific pieces of appropriations legislation have to move its way through.
Do Republican leadership essentially took down or broke up a massive transportation bill huge five year plan.
Many hundreds of billions of dollars that seems to -- to be foundering is congress gonna find a way to get these specific appropriations done into.
I think the House of Representatives will move the approaches appropriation bills through the process.
As long as there at the funding levels that they need the desire and the plan of bubbles but it will be passing.
If we break outside of that then I think there's one of the difficulty.
This is we've got to make some tough decisions and then we need to make him now and is going take the will and the resolve and courage to do that today.
If we continue just packaging together deals and compromise is all we're doing is compromising -- -- a nation.
She has so use your message then she's leadership in your party -- gates.
Stick to the budget you -- -- when you do these appropriations is that right.
I think that that's absolutely right and it's very important that we do that that we move towards a balanced budget environment.
And admit that the people of the country and given us the opportunity govern in the House of Representatives and I believe we have a great plan a great story to tell me great vision for our country.
Analysts let's put it out there -- -- that the American people and I believe they were really really believe in what we are pushing forward and they'll stand behind us.
Let's get the politics aside let's just before the right vision for a nation and stand behind it.
Ladies and gentlemen of the Internet I give you congressmen bridge from a beautiful -- right side up in north Georgia really beautiful part of the country up in the mountains.
And I -- you can't wait to get back there.
I'm ready to get back but thankfully with the and you better have a great day congressman.
OK guys back with our esteemed panel here in studio three.
So did you know how this stuff works.
Am I right in saying that after a year of absolutely savage.
Fighting over spending and taxation.
That congress is just run out of gas on keeping these -- seven people are finally ready to sort of make some compromises and move -- Well I think the leadership.
Is ready to make compromises because they recognized -- -- did you -- that the American people that they're fed up been -- city -- impact on the economy.
But I don't think we're done with the fights I think we're gonna see a vote they both houses that.
On depending HHS regulation on.
-- -- -- -- -- Arm I think you've got a group of conservatives that were elected in the last election it still feel very strongly.
And enforce the votes of a lot of people don't wanna take and substantively.
We're not gonna see anything past it's -- really -- -- -- something might just able to act.
Look what would say it's I'll say I mean I hate to come across cynically reviewers but I do -- it a little heaven for fan I.
Tennis but I do think it's important for your viewers because they don't.
Really needs at times probably get a full sense of what happens here inside the beltway what is going on -- both this tax cut deal.
And ultimately the appropriations is total beltway politics it's political reality.
This tax cut deal had to happen there's no way that Republicans we're gonna go back and say I don't I didn't support write in vote for the pay payroll tax cut.
Holiday I mean.
That this tax cut and deficit debate is a marathon not a sprint come there's gonna be other opportunities to have this debate.
And ask for the appropriations.
My prediction is that that -- is gonna get kicked down the road again.
And we're gonna get some.
Temporary spending Bill -- because no one wants to shut the government down again no one wants to.
Take any risks anymore because of what happened in 1980.
Did something we talk about here a lot that I write about a lot in my power -- which I -- let me plug that take this opportunity for shameless self promotion executive that I -- each morning it's available at foxnews.com -- politics or.
You just put on the Twitter machine and follow me at -- dialogue on Twitter you can get it each morning that way.
And that also gives you a chance to yell at me on the Internet box here and tell me what I'm saying wrong.
So I would encourage you to do that but -- -- write and talk a lot about the fact that.
We have not seen.
Ideological division like this in Washington.
May -- ever we have the most conservative house.
It made sense to twenty cents Nicholas longworth we have the most conservative has driven most liberal president since Lyndon Johnson.
This is not an atmosphere that it -- certainly it.
Is encouraging to bipartisan compromise the Democrats -- more liberal Republicans are more conservative.
Isn't it sort of just the reality that we have to have one more election to sort of settle this hash before we can move on and do stuff.
I agree with that to some extent I think we.
Where we have been in this kind of partisan breakdown her -- deflected -- -- it in past I think that we took four years ago we saw.
Angry Republicans two years ago we sunny -- Democrats this year I think people are equally angry and tired of that person breakdown.
I am concerned that was gonna happen in this election isn't gonna help that the -- going to be whatever way it goes.
It's and by the way even in the house the house but it could there.
You know medium month ago I wasn't -- convinced now that the house is competitive it could go either way.
But it's going to be close no matter which way it goes works and what.
25 -- the -- that Democrats are gonna pick up 25 seats in the house they're -- me if you going into the CIC compares in their -- competitive seats in this country.
She's laying down a marker Internet she's equipment should put him right out there on the table -- you -- -- competitor I don't but it but I will say I.
And -- never talked about it earlier I don't know if I would bet a penny on.
What's going on in politics from the campaign standpoint right now -- what are you doing here.
Air through what I went -- the coffee but I would -- right but I will let us know what what I would say is.
I've been in town for twenty years and it worked on the hill for leadership premieres I have never seen the town were paralyzed than it is right now.
-- but I don't think enough focus gets put on.
The senate the ivory tower they.
I mean regardless who knows who they sure don't do a lot of stuff -- you know they don't -- you know.
You can have a president is trying to do things and -- trying to do things and it's still can't get done as the senate doesn't do -- got to look at.
Today -- saucer that cools the partisan passions and absolute ice box and that's and that is true for both parties.
Okay we we have to go and I'm sorry and it's been very good and I gotta I gotta agreement import from Debbie -- -- -- that down on the Internet.
Remember that I got -- minute or so where were you.
-- we're -- we're putting it in part we're putting them in the win column that we take and we can -- we thank both of you very much for being with us and I should mention before we got.
The Rick Santorum should pack two but 700000 dollars and Michigan so it's gonna get even uglier stuff -- -- great -- he's gonna -- good.
The economy -- -- every home girl -- comes back for the Michigan -- thanks guys for being with us when we come back.
