-- to Champaign who is a member of the Navajo county Arizona Republicans.
Who's joining us live from Phoenix tonight good to see you Sam thanks very much for joining us.
Talk to us about how we I don't know whether you've been able to listen to our conversation here in the studio.
We're talking about the candidate viewers state.
I don't know about you personally but your state gave a big win tonight to Mitt Romney how you feeling about that.
Yeah hi I'm good thank you for having me yet we certainly did give a big -- you are Mitt Romney although I'm from Navajo county which is a very rural area which is buried.
Didn't hurt very badly.
By our federal government policy as far as our crippling our economy.
And where I'm from -- we were there with a lot of folks for Rick Santorum and also a tremendous number four Ron Paul in fact.
I know there are quite a few independents who actually registered Republican just to vote for Ron Paul in this particular primary you got your -- tonight Sam.
Ha ha -- I I'm I'm.
Okay and what do you think about your man's chances in -- general election because he seems to sort of slipped from the conversation.
These days you hear people talking about Republican race in more and more.
They're talking about it in terms of the two person race between.
Romney.
And Santorum.
Sure well there was a Rasmussen poll out I believe yesterday which had our Ron Paul beating.
President Obama are in a general election so I believe he is very very electable of the idea within the Republican Party that's a whole different story he is kind of an outcast and I think that's -- while our people like him actually.
Well you know a lot of people also been noticing that Ron Paul is very eager to talk critically.
Of all the other candidates in the field with the exception of Mitt Romney.
And it's led to some speculation.
I'm sure you've heard it that maybe there's some sort of an alliance -- -- gentleman's agreement between the two.
Mitt Romney is just said no we don't have any kind of the deal we just happen to like each other personally.
What do you think is going on there -- would you like to see Ron Paul go after Mitt Romney.
Why I certainly would like to see him go after a Mitt Romney I believe that Ron Paul would go after -- know -- he did go after and we go after -- substantive issues not his business background that is.
-- Mitt -- strength and I believe that we should leave that one alone -- her mind gun rights or you know where are Romney care my goodness.
-- think race and it -- made it a you know we don't know exactly what's gonna happen over the next week herself.
So I -- hesitate putting forward all these have pathetic but if I didn't do any had to -- and we would have a shout things out and I'm I'm.
I hit it it'd say this that I'm just curious if there's a lot of theories by a lot of different -- and as to whether or not.
The turnout is good.
In November and whether or not Republicans and their Tea Party members if there -- Ron Paul folks and he hasn't become the candidate.
If they'll actually get out and cast a vote what is your sense of that any easier Ron Paul guy.
If he's not the candidate are you getting out there you get a rally behind the other guys fund -- to have voting parties and get everyone moving in the right direction or do you feel really disconnected at that point.
Well -- at that point in time we will rally around whoever the candidate is we have no choice by the Obama administration has done tremendous damage.
To this country and and look at their energy policy I have a personal friend who is they are.
-- diver down in the Arab Gulf of Mexico and he lost his job because of the drilling moratorium down there and so.
The things like that are hurting people directly and -- the the price of gas is crushing us out here I -- -- -- I -- sixty miles one way to work.
The price of gas means a heck of a lot -- listen we're not -- we understand.
That if you increase the supply or the idea of the supply.
Then our prices will go down as something that this administration is not doing so we will rally around whoever the candidate happens to be we will do everything that we possibly can.
Even the independence and I know because we -- have to have a change even if it's not our best ideal candidate during a rally around -- latest.
In midtown Manhattan -- some snaps were actually sounds pretty good have a lot of time to think about a lot his big issues damning and that it's beautiful out there and this -- here when journalists and this is it tweet on line.
That says this is in its -- just came in just as you were speaking it says it is from Politico Ron Paul gets a lot of attention for a guy who has lost every state today.
-- what with your response to something like that.
Well.
He is imminently electable if he would just get a chance to be the old.
Establishment Republican Party has really not giving him a chance in my opinion they haven't joining me support behind if in fact if anything they can to try to you know cut his legs -- And they actually what -- -- I'd like to say -- it referenced -- year earlier conversation about Latinos he nodded having grown up here in Arizona I can tell you that there are groups here like the RR Arizona Latino Republican association for instance.
Which are very conservative.
Which support I -- a strong immigration policy.
And are actually leading -- fight against things like ethnic studies so if the Republicans would play their cards right.
They have a they could win a significant number -- of our Latino voters.
I just wanna put up -- another one of the exit polling we have a graphic that shows.
This is the issue question.
When people were were walking out of the polls today in your statement they were asked what their most important issues where sand.
And it and I'm not sure you can -- the screen the 48% said that the economy was the most.
In Jordan issue that they cared about.
And and I and you know so I guess that you're sort of echoing that you talk about your friend do who lost his job and other folks in rural areas the gas situation.
That's that's hurting so many people in Arizona when you see them.
Certain positive signs in the is on the economic front.
Things like consumer confidence we just had the Dow hit thirteen thousand.
You know their jobs numbers while improving a little bit are improving rather than going in the opposite.
A direction these are certainly going to be things that you're gonna see President Obama run for as he runs for a second term.
How is a Republican candidate no matter who that candidate is gonna be able.
To sort of downplay.
Those positive trends when it comes in the economy.
Well I K I can't talk about the rest of the country but in Navajo county where I come from our reported unemployment is 14% so I would say what recovery the VP general sense where I am is that the -- rebound is a function of -- that it doesn't really exist because in my area.
I can tell you.
That there is no there has been no economic -- down to this point in time.
And if the federal government would we could have a candy who would get the EPA off of our backs and an open up our forest.
It would be two very important things a it would allow us to have a real industry -- tourism is what we're farming industry is now that's not really industry.
We would have -- logging industry back and create Robert shares of the country needs a and -- It would also allow us to reduce the fuel loads in the forest around the areas where I live I mean last year in the state of Arizona we burned over a million acres.
Including 600000 acres very near.
Where I was actually I actually watched.
-- 600 square miles of the usable resource is being burned up -- my front yard this summer.
And that's a direct result of us taking the the federal government not allowing the loggers to go in there.
And harvest that fuel -- your heart -- without lumber which is which.
It's it is not Carson is simply fuel for fires and that is what we need to -- you Sam thank you very much Sam -- who is Ron Paul supporter.
But who joins us from Phoenix Arizona.
The state that went to Mitt Romney today.
Anarchy may have told -- Leo thanks so much for your time --
