It can sound like a cliche but it's true our children are America's future but if those kids don't get an education the future looks pretty bleak for them and really for all of us.

A recent study shows that in some areas up to 13 of kids drop out before high school graduation that's the nationwide overall number.

One point three million kids you dropped out in 2010.

Are going to cost our nation more than a hundred more than 337.

Billion dollars.

In lost wages over their lifetimes.

Those dropouts need and really deserve a second chance so enter the National Guard.

Last -- I had the honor of hosting a star studded fund raiser to support a wonderful program to give deserving kids that second chance.

Well I wouldn't call it rough -- color run by any means but I -- definitely did have my problems you know just like any other kid growing up you don't mean.

Sometimes you kind of fall off the wagon and know what's really great about this program is that these kids really.

You know they realize that.

Their lives are kind of in this downward spiral and they -- they wanna make a change no one has to be field force it would be in this program they've the kids volunteered actually being in which is a great thing.

I was astounded looking at the about the brochure from from the dinner last night and -- right here in Washington DC.

The graduation rate is 43%.

That means 57%.

Of the kids in Washington DC the nation's capitol never even graduate from high school so.

All right here a couple of them.

There's nobody in the senator who who got this whole thing together along general McKinley.

All of these folks have really pitched in to help those kids -- you see in those pictures.

Absolutely I really do some make some of their -- -- -- -- we all believe in and you know the numbers don't lie I mean you think about it and 75% of the people who graduate from this program and up getting back into high school getting there high school diploma -- the ZD.

It's it's amazing come in on top of that I mean I think -- the numbers are also and done it makes financial sense 200.
