I'm Bill O'Reilly thanks for watching us tonight no -- -- voice memo this evening because we have governor Mitt Romney's Panama.
As you know the governor won the primaries and Arizona Michigan last night reigniting his campaign.
Now it's onto -- -- -- primaries and caucuses next Tuesday night.
Exit polling from Arizona Michigan shows that Mitt Romney did well among women and voters who believe he is the best candidate to defeat -- Obama.
In Michigan exit polling also shows that even though -- defeated Santorum by three points.
It would've been closer to set then.
Had not voted for senator Santorum in big numbers.
Obviously Republican voters -- -- should strongly favor the governor who joins us now from -- Leo I'll outside of Columbus.
So why do you think Democrats voted for senator Santorum in Michigan it was an open primary why you think they did that governor.
Well they got the of the news from heroin from Michael Moore to Barack Obama's team to frankly Rick Santorum as well saying.
-- go play mischief in the Republican Party vote against Mitt Romney.
And try to give mr.
Rick Santorum you know they don't want to face me in the fall they'd rather face Rick Santorum and and -- so they came in in in large numbers and voted for Rick.
You -- I think that was a huge mistake -- his part Republicans saw right through that.
And saw that if -- Barack Obama wants Rick Santorum to run against we're not gonna give Rick Santorum to run against.
Okay cede it's basic you -- it was political trick play.
And and Democrats did avoid the you've got 18% Santorum -- only 58% of the democratic vote which was 9% of the total.
Which is significant which is significant -- you will remember that last time around.
The Republican side did the same thing to Barack Obama's interest -- crises they always just said did that Democrats.
Don't want to run against you they would rather have Rick Santorum as a nominee yet that's what you said.
Well that's said that's what what does someone like a Michael Moore said on the air and and a number of Democrats I saw peace.
On the news where they interviewed people who had voted -- as Democrats they said yeah we're we're try to give -- to Rick Santorum because we -- -- stop Mitt Romney.
And of course they've also been asked by the UAW and by other organized labor groups against me.
They're they're trying to -- this way the votes inside the Republican primary against me and you know that's OK I understand that the nature of the process I think it was a mistake for Rick Santorum.
To join and lead with them and to do robocalls.
Saying hey vote against Mitt Romney vote with the -- I'm sorry I can understand why Santorum did that he wanted to win but is actually a compliment to you.
That the Democratic Party would be doing that that's -- way I would look at our let's get rescued out here let's get into a couple issues here.
You know this Maureen Dowd this -- -- for the New York Times you know Lucius.
I do okay so she puts forth today that that you guys and I don't matter who you are you Santorum -- -- got a chance against Obama is gonna wiped off the face of the year.
Because you damage each other so much in the primary system that is the independent voters and others think that you guys just don't have what it takes that's.
That's what -- puts forth and I think that's the the prevailing wisdom among the chattering classes in Washington in the beltway.
Well what gets me is John McCain saying it is well let's roll the tape.
I've been in very tough campaigns I I don't think I've seen one.
That was his personal and is characterized by so many attacks as -- -- and frankly one of the reasons is the super pacs.
-- caddie replied -- you guys -- damaged tissue beat each other up so much.
Well at these super pacs are they John McCain is right the super pacs or a new feature in American politics right now big money in the in the case of the Santorum campaign and the Gingrich campaign a single billionaire.
Responsible for the lion's share of the funding other super pacs and that that has a big impact I think the process is gonna go on longer as a result of the super pac dollars the command.
But but I can't tell you that.
The I recognize -- down the road we're gonna get attacked by a billion dollar Obama machine.
And -- some respects this toughened us up a bit and and gets the attacks out there -- people get a little tired of them and hopefully we'll be able to regain the strength once we have a nominee and we can focus on President Obama.
And his weaknesses his weaknesses internationally his weakness with regards to the economy.
Try to you don't think that all of this bloodletting in the debates and in the campaigns is going to hurt you or whoever the nominee is going to be.
In the general campaign is -- when you tell me tonight.
Well I would love to have an acclamation that everybody -- -- he's confident personality.
But that that doesn't happen that's not the real world you have to battle you have to earn a -- work -- where we're doing just that the other campaigns are doing the same thing.
You know I I recognize that the process is what it is.
And and I'll I'll fight to this process and hopefully be able to get the support of our party and then going on that to focus increasingly a -- I don't know why can't.
Thanks very damaged because of this do you agree with Senator McCain are you damaged because of all what is this brawling.
Well you don't it if you get attacked by someone it it doesn't make you better off of their had a tougher job.
And -- the two sides to that 11 we've we've exposed a lot of the attacks and I'm sure the Obama people pick up on them and run with -- it themselves.
But also I think I've tougher as a result of this at the the other guys are as well and will come united when this is all -- we're gonna look we're gonna get behind our nominee.
Now I know you for a long time and I know your sense of humor your governor I've worked up -- -- you know we go back.
You don't whatever you make a joke like you did -- the NASCAR.
Race and and you said he saw some people -- -- cheap little -- coast to new way to spend the big bucks and you know you're always going to be portrayed as a rich guy.
Who is out of touch with the folks condescending to the folks he -- my correct any anything that's the way you're gonna be portrayed no matter what you do.
Yeah you're probably right command that the narrative that that the Obama people want -- push of the members of the mainstream media are very anxious to do for them.
Is that anything I do joking around and having fun that somehow that fits here you gotta be you know not I said -- -- so is it yes it for you even to say those things.
Well you know it's hard to imagine all the things are gonna try and turn into attacks I mean -- that's the first time -- I've heard the one you mentioned look I've -- a garbage bag for rain gear myself.
And we're out there in the rain the rain was getting is so I didn't I didn't have a -- myself I would have -- -- of those so.
You know it's just that I.
You turn it around and anybody trust anybody who knows you know you're kidding around with the folks I mean I do it all the time but you know anything you say can and will be.
Used against you I have to Moran dies you tonight governor.
-- directory -- exactly right but here's it's what I don't understand about you okay.
So you go always debates and you say you know a lot I didn't we inherit any money.
I made my money and I'm proud of the fact that I did it honestly and on the wealthy American but that's who I avenue take -- -- okay does a good answer.
What she did inherit money from your father.
And then you don't say what you did with the money you wanna tell what the folks what you did with the inheritance you got you wanna tell him tonight.
Fisher you don't what what my mom and dad Davis when they passed away I gave away what -- -- establishment.
Why did you tell everybody and well I guess I'm just grab the I've I've described that before it's not the first television tonight and -- we didn't -- big formula I bet you.
I bet you people watch -- and I don't know you gave every cent of it away a lot of with the BYU university.
-- to honor your father.
Now we established the George Romney institute a public management and talking about governmental management try to take some of the lessons from the private sector and apply them in the in the public sector and and that was something that that we felt was the best way to honor his his legacy and frankly -- my alma mater but I.
I get what do you say that governor why do you say it what -- you say stuff like that you see what I'm talking about here I have to revenues Richard.
You should have said it.
Have -- well I don't think of everything perfectly and every every debate I've made mistakes.
And in this case that's probably a good thing to raise but you know you don't look like you're patting yourself on the back either side do you -- -- -- -- myself on the back volatile -- -- I think yeah you get better ratings that I do so I -- I learned from it.
I've just got to be fair here it's everybody in -- -- -- set I didn't know the governor for a long time and you're not the way -- look you are not the way the left wing press is portraying you.
And what Barack Obama's not the way the right wing press is portraying him -- going to be -- neither -- you personally personally.
By the way that you're being portrayed by the media not and I just think that's unfair -- less -- governor got.
Well this is an election all about the direction of America.
And the question is are we gonna have a president who understands how to make the economy work for the American people and get people back to work it and my experience in the private economy.
With real jobs helping grow businesses sometimes successfully and sometimes not bad experience we need in the White House.
If people think it is that a politician in the White House we got that.
If you want somebody's gonna get the economy going that's what I bring to the White House you know I got let you do that governor and his so we appreciate you can't -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
