This is The Fox Report tonight -- Fox News weather alert I'm Shepard Smith reporting tonight from South Florida.
And across the nation we're tracking violent tornadoes that have struck today.
In the midwest and the south and they have been deadly.
The National Weather Service reports some ten million people are in these storms -- Tonight reports of deaths and devastation and in the words of one official in the state of Indiana.
One town of 19100.
People.
Is completely gone.
Of course this comes just two days after a twister outbreak destroyed parts of the region and right now these dangerous storms are still on the move.
New video just in to Fox News it shows just how powerful these storms were across southern Indiana.
Holmes left in piles of wood and metal.
Right now crews are searching desperately for survivors.
We also have our first amateur video showing one of those huge tornado.
This twister tearing through.
Indiana.
Officials there say at least five people are now confirmed dead and the damage goes on for miles and miles.
We'll have a live report from a storm tracker in the area now.
First though to show you exactly what we're talking about a twister struck a high school in the town of Henry bill which is directly north of little Kentucky.
But we're told there were.
But there were people inside and got out safely.
And in the nearby town of Marysville the sheriff's office reports there is absolutely.
Nothing left.
The storm also shut down Cincinnati's airport one of Delta's major -- Officials there say the fierce winds blew debris on to the runways and close them down for an hour.
It also slammed in the state of Alabama -- apparent tornado snapped trees -- trucks over and -- home support.
We're told it also ripped on offense at a maximum security prison there officials they know inmates escaped.
Afternoon tornado sirens wailed -- sent people racing for cover in the hard hit town of Harrisburg Illinois.
Folks there are taking no chances after a twister flattened that town on Wednesday at least three funnel clouds reported there today.
But it appears this time.
They dodged a bullet.
Let's start a -- since the hospital tonight and energy meteorologist Rick -- in the extreme weather center -- this afternoon on studio B you said this looks like it's -- -- be awful and sure enough.
-- you know we were tracking those two sells this two tornadoes that we're just in the north.
Of the Louisville area and that is the images that town -- bill.
And account just to the east of -- those are the town's.
There were impacted by those who storms this is what it looks like right now we still have six tornado watch boxes in effect.
In jeopardy we have about another two hours -- we have the chance a very large damaging tornadoes after that I think we'll see the chance.
For some smaller potentially life threatening tornadoes but not as much in the very way of -- incredibly large big tornadoes.
These are all the watch boxes we have an effect you see these go -- 11 PM eastern.
12 AM central time right here we still have these others until 9 PM central time.
And a ton of active tornado warnings including to the south of the Montgomery.
Alabama area in towards northern Alabama.
Chattanooga Tennessee which had a tornado earlier today that caused injuries in a lot of damage.
Under the gun again just to the south of Knoxville if you're in -- familiar in the clear that front is moving off towards east to anything behind me you're gonna be okay right now.
Which is good news you can safely get out and assessing the damage there but anywhere from around Lexington on this is where stuff -- firing including now.
-- spreading into parts of West Virginians -- Charleston now you're about to be under tornado warning here so.
So many people such a widespread storms certainly for this time of year but big area shepherd from Ohio.
Down towards Mississippi.
All under the threat of tornadoes most of these -- today have been tornadic.
Not just hail or wind events but tornadoes 67 reports of tornadoes just today.
67.
What we explained it was what it is that causes some storms to have all of this circulation and some storms to just have straight wins you have -- AA you have to have the rotation you have to have found something that makes the winds at different levels in the atmosphere.
Go in different directions and that's usually a jet stream coming off from.
-- in the west on some level and a lower level circulation that's moving at a different speed and that's slightly different direction and that's what we had today.
Typically shepherd this time a year you -- march storms they're towards the deep south and kind of the southern end here of tornado Alley.
This is your typical thing take a look -- -- Kentucky.
And interest Tennessee that's the bull's -- for today.
And this storm prediction center is so there's about a 30% chance of having a tornado with and that within any 25 mile point.
Right in that area and this has been the bull's -- today forecast has been very good and I and I tell you last year remember April 27 the major outbreak and of course Joplin.
That was impacted a year ago so many people now taking this very very seriously and I think -- -- less loss of life today because so many people were aware of this.
And taking all -- necessary precautions especially some of the pictures -- damage from out of these storms shepherd it's amazing that we've been getting off as we have.
The pictures really are absolutely incredible book written Rick Reichmuth thanks I want to get to Mike Tobin he's been covering these storms throughout the region.
And is on his way -- -- Henry bill Indiana that's a rural town about 45 miles north of global.
Henry bill is known as the home of Indiana's oldest state forest and as the birthplace of of all things Kentucky fried chicken founder colonel Sanders.
The National Weather Service is reporting what it calls extreme.
Damage in Henry bill Mike Tobin on the way what do you know.
Well you know you got -- remarkable phenomenon -- the national weather server just referred to as multiple vortex tornadoes with this unique weather system our place -- that a company can like get in that I was in the seventy degrees and shirt -- one minute a weather system moves over makes.
We've got on the heavy coats -- were -- bond who brought.
Now I'm -- -- sat on the cold side of the storm system where there where all the bad weather's just moved through other city issue right now is just a lot of wind.
On the backside.
The of the storm system.
As far as reports of damage -- whatnot we've got reports that people are trapped in the rubble and Henry -- -- in.
And -- as well.
But none of that can be confirmed -- the simple fact that anybody who would be reporting that information.
We'll be working right now to get those people out of the rubble -- Begin hearing new right now everything is very fluid.
I and a lot of concern.
Photo of a concern I guess to some extent has been minimized.
On the backside of the storm a lot of one right now and the effort now just take -- anybody who's out there who may be injured may be trapped.
Much like these reports from what we've got the first report from a local official in a town that I'd never heard of -- the time.
Saying an entire town was wiped off the map and I remember that happening.
It towns of a 15200.
People in very rural areas and then we got more information that told us.
Almost 2000.
People live there and and it's -- That's just remarkable you don't have seen that kind of phenomenon before when you get the big EF five tornadoes when you get a home just live right there under the -- foundation.
But one thing that's very clear this year it would Erica and tornadoes.
Touched down your -- leader of the rankings later won the scientists are related.
You know -- all their data.
-- you know it's a big tornado when you're talking about -- could always write down of the foundation when you talk about wiping out an entire little out.
-- -- Mike Mike thanks so much Mike Tobin Laporte ought to read this for you this is just that this is in the -- -- wires and web poses a press wire service stories from each state.
And this is the top wire service story from the state of Indiana and listen to this it's very short.
Authorities say tornadoes have left widespread damage in the southern part of the state of Indiana a sheriff's official in the town of -- says.
Our town is completely gone.
And a National Weather Service officials says there is extreme damage and Henry bill just north of -- authorities have not confirmed any injuries or fatalities but the fact of the matter is.
They are too busy.
To be making reports.
Some brand new video has just come in of the twister that he's in or hit Henry bill -- listen to this.
-- And as you can see your screen there and listen listening on radio -- Talbott of KER media shot this.
And skip is on the line -- this he was -- Henry Hill earlier this year I know you've seen a few days in the past but man what video.
-- -- Talbot you live with a -- Fox News Channel where we're looking at your pictures what was this like.
-- -- -- -- -- -- Shepard Smith in Miami -- -- live with Fox News Channel watching your video tell us about Maryville.
Questions again rebuild.
Yeah that was one of the most -- incredible tornadoes.
I ever thought it was pummeled by -- was very very.
That are are all.
It sounds as if we've lost our connection.
Yet you sound like maybe you're back now you said it multi vortex tell us what that means and very powerful I know that the weather service in the local officials and Henry Miller saying.
That there is a severe damage.
Yeah out whatever -- the a very large tornado.
They can often got the multiple.
-- -- -- -- that it -- then then that's called multiple vortex tornado every yeah you know you're dealing with a very violent tornado.
People -- I think a lot of damage.
Were you able to get -- -- -- itself and see what happened there.
-- -- we try to chase tornado north stopped about location and the boat -- -- incredibly backed up with traffic there must have been twenty or thirty emergency vehicle by about that.
-- -- the affected area as they close the roads down.
We know we -- it was going to be our major disaster area so we were not able to get within a few miles of the -- So we ordered our Jason -- felt after that.
-- Talbot on the line with the Storm Chasers shot that incredible video.
We're still waiting for for reports from those two talented.
We we can't get reports out of there yet they're they're having a very difficult time even getting necessary medical supplies and rescue people in and out.
We expect to learn more during this hour and we'll take -- and he's very hard hit towns as fox report continues -- on your screen right now.
The watch boxes and the warning boxes and if you were in any of these areas up and down the East Coast.
Are -- meteorological meteorological office advises please.
