Closets -- birthday -- -- poll that shows -- leading the -- the United States with us now celebrating his 65 birthday Mitt Romney.
Governor -- Today you happy birthday.
Thank you -- good to be with you today by the way here now officially old enough to collect at least 93% of your.
So security -- -- what you known on.
Are you thank you I have no.
Any attention to they're -- -- -- -- at the current moment OK okay but what about accepting those benefits.
I'm not gonna be doing that any time soon am -- I'm still very much of the workforce I hope all right on.
Do you think did those as well alters you.
Governor -- it should be getting Social Security award that's the way it is and that's what you have coming do you.
So -- it.
Well it's been it's been a savings program of course over over the years I think in the future.
As and I've started propose this in my revamping of Social Security if you will version two point over for young people coming -- in their 20s30s forties early fifties.
I would have lower benefits for.
And -- and of course maintain higher benefits for people who lower income those people the reliance Social Security.
Ought to have substantial benefits there those that are higher income ready or not relying on Social Security in the benefits ought to be a good deal smaller.
I'm without getting too distracted governors their point at which would say all right but you don't need Social Security at all or they become level at which you would cut it off -- -- you work.
-- -- -- Well -- the the plan was originally put in place is a savings program for all people it was not ready and insurance program to for the poor it was something where everybody put your money NN.
Ultimately the money.
Money came back to -- -- in a retirement program.
And that that would change his nature to say that people get nothing even after that put the money at all through all those years but.
Frankly might Meyer the vision is to -- reduce benefits for high income people these are folks down the road -- current retirees.
And and of course keep them high for lower income folks.
I'm governor I am curious at the -- that dramatic tomorrow's.
Contests was telling.
Folks today you know I'm actually doing far better to delegate count.
Then the media gives me credit that.
Given the of portion voting.
I have substantially more delegates than than you're being told and this is in -- away -- Mitt Romney I'm paraphrasing here but what do you make of that.
Well of the Republican National Committee.
Puts the delegate count out.
Each of the campaigns to but the run delegate count I think -- put his own delegate count -- if he wants to showing it state by state but.
Look we've we've got a very substantial lead Rick santorum's campaign put -- -- lot I think today talking about how they can go to brokered convention -- think they can swing some delegates to.
To go from committed to uncommitted to may be supporting him.
Look if we go to all the way to convention what do we would be we would signaling our doom in terms of replacing President Obama we need to select someone to become our nominee.
Get that person nominated and get focused on President Obama and get him out of the White House.
I think what he was saying a governor I could -- wrong we've read articles -- Saunders.
Of that that.
The momentum would be -- -- -- in other words.
You would probably have the lead I guess by his -- you would have locked down 11144 delegates he needs.
To be the nominee.
The momentum would be with him.
Wavering the delegates would would would opt in you don't -- -- -- We haven't seen that happen so far.
We just we won Michigan Arizona.
Ohio -- a course a little earlier Florida New Hampshire the these are important states that make a real difference.
I mean everybody has a scenario where they can become the nominee that's fine but that's what we have a primary process and so far we've got I don't know 22 and a half times as many delegates as he has.
And that and -- millions of more votes and he has.
And you don't that's a major political process if he is able to pull off a miracles so be -- he'll be the nominee but you know.
We have an as selection process for the middle of it I'm leading it strongly I'm gonna continue to lead that you're gonna see me get -- the delegates I need to become the nominee.
And we sure as -- are not gonna go to a convention all the way to the end of August to select a nominee.
And and have campaigned at the working during a convention wife.
I -- imagine anything that would be a bigger gift to Barack Obama that us that having a nominee until the end of August that this is not gonna happen.
On do you get a sense that you have to win one of -- in southern states up for grabs tomorrow Mississippi and Alabama because your campaign need to take orders is one region.
That you've you've been -- No absolutely not this is to know and a good -- McCain didn't -- -- -- -- -- states Alabama Mississippi via.
We're delighted that we're doing so well there that the polls are are suggesting -- have a three way tie.
It's an it's an away game for me I had a big day on Super Tuesday.
They'll be some other states coming up like like New Jersey and Utah new York and California real big states where I expect to do real well expect to get some good delegates from Texas and other places.
You know I'm delighted that the people of Mississippi and Alabama.
Have look at this race and say you know what we need to get behind the guy who can actually beat Barack Obama.
And I can and the other guys -- nice folks but they have an organized a campaign with a staff the organization the fundraising capacity to actually beat Barack Obama.
I have and that's why I think among other reasons so many people -- Mississippi and Alabama are are joining my effort.
Do you think over the fact that people like Sarah Palin just recently endorsed Newt Gingrich and other conservatives are still holding back are -- that if you were to become the nominee of your parties -- you would almost have to put.
A conservative a real.
Lol I know you say you're as a result but even a -- you on your ticket.
Well that -- for -- of course Rick Santorum.
Because I mean look at his record I find it interesting that he continues to describe himself as the real conservative this is the guy who voted against right to work.
This is the guy that voted to fund Planned Parenthood.
This is the person who voted to raise the debt ceiling five times so when -- -- thank -- -- night kind was not hundred Santorum.
On -- tennis it's my way of -- hit it's by way of saying that that Rick Santorum is not a person who's an economic conservative to my right.
I'm saying I'm a conservative I give him credit for being conservative but not a fiscal conservative his record does not suggest he's got the fiscal conservative chops that I have.
All right so when -- -- -- Gingrich talked to Rick Perry pre announcing it had been such a -- as a running -- What do you make it.
I'd be surprised if if anyone is talking that anyone about being a running -- at this early stage.
Might mile view is with regards to myself I would think it's presumptuous for meeting to consider such a thing and I haven't begun to put together my thinking and in that direction that I hope I get that opportunity at some point.
And -- become the nominee yet and if I do it what I do well I'll give it a good deal of thought and and but I'd I'd be surprised if if they're running mate proposals going out at this early -- -- conservative columnist has expressed outrage -- our continuing participates in Afghanistan because this recent.
Killing -- and that maybe we should just get out of there -- Well the the actions of a deranged person.
Are not -- shape American foreign policy.
That being said we should on a regular basis reassess what's happening in Afghanistan and it anyplace for that matter where we have -- kinetic activity going out.
And and assess what's the right course forward that we're making progress are we not -- know -- what the prospects for up for success and our mission and that's something I would continue to do on a regular basis but.
But I certainly wouldn't Ted media immediately jumped to a new policy based upon.
Some deranged already person.
-- started abused in a reputed governor.
