So -- -- the primaries going today in Mississippi and Alabama and the attacks on the south are weren't they know.

They're just a bunch of redneck hicks.

-- so whatever they say doesn't count anyway.

-- -- no redneck hicks.

Did it -- that.

My good friend award winning journalist Todd started and so.

And and talk we had you on the program month to go with when you came out with the latest book dispatches from bitter America.

In the cover of it folks if you haven't seen is read what red and White Stripes from the flag.

A gun toting chicken eating some of a Baptist culture war stories with the bib overalls but gun in a Bible.

I mean it it says -- all been in so the south is.

Like all part to this country the south has its own culture.

But why isn't that the leaders in like Bill Maher and others this -- make fun of them.

Well you well -- the easy -- to -- and and quite frankly Tom it in this society southerners.

-- are the only folks that are it's still politically correct to insult.

If if you try to do this and say Harlem for example they would ride you out of the contractor.

It just wouldn't happen.

But for some reason did these these -- as they like to go after southerners and I'm going to be honest with you -- I'm from Mississippi these are my people.

Well we're talking about you were from the -- and -- I don't know I was born in Memphis and which is right there on the state -- and and then we I grew up there and in the great state of Mississippi so I'm I'm not dead yet so I am what are these -- gun -- chicken Eden.

A Bible -- in Mississippi yes vote for talking about -- today he.

Are they offended or or do they do they laugh -- the rest of the country about it.

I've and you look I think his disappointing and it is offensive when you see people -- -- you know where you came from in and attack the values that you were you grew up went through and then when you see this nonsense that so what Alexandra policies club you know as.

-- put out to how about the meatballs on her I mean of all the people took to go after people group had to say that.

Use -- that's a -- everybody in the state of Mississippi a you know it is toothless.

And that's that that were all some sorts of you too ignorant redneck almost all homes -- rundown -- shotgun shacks everywhere -- give me a free can break your missed policy.

Look at the at the end of the day what I was surprised.

About is that when you when you look at the numbers what some what fifty some odd percent of the -- of the of the state of Mississippi is is African American.

Just about that same number happens to be female.

And yet ms.

Pelosi could find no African Americans to talk to she could find no females to talk to for some reason the only people.

That she could find -- talked to were men who were white men who had no teeth.

That so wanted to get her point of view across so as -- the in the entire country it is on or the entire state is on food stamps.

Outrageous I -- Time in Louisiana and the locals in -- go over Baton Rouge.

Beautiful mentions gorgeous southern.

Architecture.

Annuities she could have shown them -- could have shown similar.

Other parts of the State's Tom -- -- region.

Oxford Mississippi home of the University of Mississippi old -- -- -- -- the presidential debates back in 2008.

Do you know that the student newspaper -- -- -- this is a funny story in the student newspaper.

At Ole miss.

Put out a put out a notice to students reminding them to dress appropriately so they might -- present.

You know a certain look in a style also is so at just about everywhere you look it was like Brooks Brothers usaid.

Could you imagine UC Berkeley putting out -- Dick quorum bum note or memo.

I mean look those folks don't even use deodorant over there -- -- that the -- correct it.

We do make fun of each other we do make fun of both California.

We do make fun of New York we do make fun of Chicago home to the upper east side where they they had the other people they actually male cousins over there on that side of the -- -- a wealthy people they had the big teeth and everything yet.

It's terrible mafia.

So what's what's your what's with the the so much of the people saying that they think Obama some of them.

What was -- fifty or 52%.

In Mississippi 45% now and then I checked -- -- -- -- guerrillas and Tate county Mississippi what -- 40% believe he's a Methodist -- could sort of balances out cents.

Look Tom this is.

This is a big issue this is say this is a big and I think that you know when you break down the poll numbers in the other disturbing number was people just didn't know they just don't know.

And when they look at Morocco -- and the way he lives his life.

What is the -- that we we all learned in Sunday school of Mississippi that.

You'll know them by the fruit they bear that it wouldn't you know will be able to figure out what kind of a person you are by the way you live your life.

And when they looked at and at Barack Obama's spending Sundays out on the golf course or play in basketball.

When they see I don't know what you do know is not what is -- community is not what you -- in the Baptist -- the Methodist community and in Mississippi for that matter.

As -- people take issue with that look I'm of the belief and I write about this in the book extensively.

That so what he says he's a Christian we have to take -- -- at his word but when you look at the wealth of evidence of the fact that this man goes out of his way to attack the Christian faith.

That's why you have a lot of folks in Mississippi that are scratching their heads going wool -- who is this guy.

Why are you -- And it should you do well I mean this wasn't.

Two pitch to book today but -- -- happy do dispatches from a from bitter America.

You have huge segment in there about.

Examples dates times and places.

Where the question about religion coming from the White House is certainly one that one would want to ask more questions about.

Very disturbing questions and look when it comes down to to pandering in the south is not just the Democrats.

I look at what Mitt Romney's been doing I mean it you -- you you think that if if you're totally Mitt Romney were out there -- -- of the butter bean fields so without any shoes on sing in Dixie -- It's -- we talked for the show a little bit about that fact that he's trying to paying under.

By saying you all and then he went and had grits and a light at -- -- often don't forget catfish -- -- you know he was over South Carolina says.

He's not a catfish man okay -- -- L then yesterday's -- Alabama sent I'll love the catfish.

People see through there.

-- -- to remember there was that hot sauce and that was out a couple of years ago were.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- We looked at the label -- this is made in New York City.

-- other person what are we Yorkers know about good food.

Well New York has certainly a lot of good food but these aren't going to be hard to find good southern food here.

Let me tell -- is that that -- yeah.

I know not all about -- like Mike -- and I don't go out occasionally to try to buy good barbecue around here.

And I get to is that when I first tier.

Yeah I was trying to find a good place to get a sausage biscuit a good under the dirty -- around the corner and I'll order a sauces -- the guy -- we will it'll have videos here.

Michael I'm hungry what big ideas I guess on the -- bagels and all of the signals like -- hockey puck the guy says.

-- reddish smear your bagel.

Let's and you wanna do what my bagel like -- government -- to -- -- you know -- we don't -- You don't know what -- -- unified Teradata here.

Guy called -- -- go from mountain California.

Said people in the south.

They carry their religion so much that the gets intertwined with the way they run everything in the and he wants government.

And religion to -- -- -- what's wrong with I mean really what's wrong with that I mean when you look at the basic foundations of the country the values that we found in the country on those are Judeo Christian values truth and and I you know look he's afraid afraid of the fact of their current Mitt.

Drug trying to however.

I know what it's it doesn't -- in the constitution that says it again you know Thomas Jefferson wrote about the separation of church and state.

And end there's a big debate right now with Rick Santorum and the whole issue about.

Do we get religion in in government to close to the point where governments can don't -- -- in fear inferring that there is one religion that they prefer.

I don't think so I think that ultimately folks just want to know especially southerners they wanna know.

Oh where you go to church and there's a reason for that because when you tell where you go to church they get a pretty good idea of what you believe in what kind of -- person you mark.

And and do they not like me if I don't go to their church.

I didn't like Mitt Romney over South Carolina.

Because he wasn't a Baptist and the president of the South Carolina Baptist convention said a couple just a couple of weeks before the primary there and of course Romney Romney lost.

But he said that people in South Carolina Baptist in South Carolina.

Would have a greater issue with Romney's Mormon some than they would with -- infidelities.

And they didn't.

The big -- to us and it's a big deal -- it is a big deal.

Will be enough to make a difference.

Today.

It depends I was up following some some folks on Twitter a lot of post from up from the home country the homeland follow me and that they're saying that turnout appears to be sort of vote on the yellow side.

So we'll have to wait Xeon -- and I you know as it's set folks in Mississippi are not all that happy with -- with the current lineup and I I think they'd rather than others so they're not any different than anybody else on our lord.

But I -- this -- the and a day two arms two legs to lies.

Yes they'll pretty normal business -- -- drop pickup trucks counted us though now by god we know how to smoke report -- Mississippi won't.

Can -- that on the -- just -- So god it's hot and talked.

-- -- -- always fund visit with you thank you.
