I'm Doug shown and welcome to campaign.

Insiders I'm here with my friends and colleagues pat -- pollster for Jimmy Carter and Fox News contributor.

And John the -- -- a former Republican congressman.

From a Long Island.

We do something here that isn't really done anywhere else we get inside.

Campaigns we tell you why things are happening.

Not just reporting the news it is in depth analysis.

Of the type that comes from those who didn't presidential campaigns.

Given electoral contests and -- from the ground up.

Electoral politics.

I should say something else we encourage your comments.

Your questions your ideas so -- com enters -- please.

Feel free to get in touch we will try to get to each and every one of your comments by the end of this program.

We have a full show today and what we're going to be talking about first is what we call the big picture what's going on in the presidential.

Election.

There was a change of tone a decided change of tone.

In the Obama campaign this week which will get to just in -- second after we play.

Some sound that gives you a sense as to how in the last two weeks the president's campaign has changed -- -- rhetoric.

And then we'll talk about why that's happened.

Would you like -- in the.

Good luck tonight.

Really.

If some of these folks were around.

And when Columbus set sail.

Maybe they must have been founding members of the Flat Earth Society.

Pat what's going -- to change.

From dismissing any comments about a Republican.

To attacking them -- it.

What what explains unions -- going from being cocky I don't care to being.

Clearly he most people people ever gather in the face of the -- was two weeks precisely it's called the polls it's called on the -- it's called.

Gas prices in -- President when he made the first comment was rivers in the polls to know an average about eight or nine point lead over Romney's closest opponent.

He was bordering -- percent approval.

In the infamous gas prices have increased and his people question the idea of automatically re electing a person they've been unhappy with the majority.

His numbers of -- And he has -- there must be tumbling in his own home.

Because when you see him do that that's what happens and so they've gone on the attack against their opponents.

And that is that this is called we're having a presidency that's based on whether or not there are prevail.

-- how did you react when you saw the dramatic shift -- the president and vice president.

Lost -- -- not in that clip dogs and apple we did notice the three of us that Biden is saying today.

In Ohio it to -- union audience was talking and specifically ran.

Quotes against quote.

Romney Santorum and Gingrich Romney Santorum and Gingrich so -- -- attacking all three of them as a unit.

Right right and that we've that we've we've voyeuristic.

There's been my my -- my my thought it then he would go through.

I've been my experience in presidential politics I can never remember in modern times when an incumbent president.

Has chosen to attack this early while the process of the other party was going wrong.

By name by -- you've -- of this those individuals it is both up the level.

If you will -- to produce this in the campaign.

And it also shows me that they are about something else and -- we get to that but I it's not about vision here.

I think I think -- though the strategy of the Obama Biden team is attacked these guys Waller attacking each other there cannot be a concerted rejoinder against Obama by the Republicans because they're consumed with each other.

And maybe they can capitalize on the internal discord on -- little let let me it's not gonna work but that's what let me offer my analysis which of these very close.

-- -- yours and jobs.

I think the White House look.

At the polls and reached two or three basic conclusions the first is given that the president's approval is under fifty.

Given that independents.

And swing voters are decidedly against his re election.

That bottom line if they would election tomorrow you'd probably lose notwithstanding the Republican.

-- us.

Second.

He's of the view that the Republican negative that they brought on.

Themselves through knowledge right handling of the issues and the primaries.

Gives them the opportunity they need to divide the electorate to polarize and make the Republicans more unacceptable than their administration.

And number three to John's point.

They think they have a great opportunity while the Republicans are still fighting among themselves to Begin driving there a message at an unprecedented -- early time.

In -- news.

Well I think that's true but I think also with a coach who is they've made a decision.

And I went through this in 1980.

They've made a decision they have nothing really all the American people -- a second term.

That is it did it didn't it's -- and -- the answer -- crash the other -- make them less acceptable that could be worse is -- -- But there you know and but the trouble -- -- in the White House dog is not just in the polls -- -- their money to right we've we've.

Notices things have come out that -- coincide with this new strategy of attacking the Republicans which is.

The Obama fund raising is alarmingly down from when he was a candidate and -- senator running against Hillary.

Here is the incumbent president and he's raising less money each month and spending more.

So part of this maybe.

It's time to gin up the base and get people to start given us money.

My you should be your you have a point to me about this very -- go to share with the audience well about what it tells you when you come all resident.

What pat is alluding to is I have a conversation as we were prepared for the show with pat John and I said if you get a call.

From the White House or somebody affiliated with the White House wouldn't come from the White House saying that the president and First Lady would like you to come to a private event with them.

-- -- coming aren't Q job you're coming aren't you vs.

Senator Obama.

Yes you know Senator Obama running for president against Hillary Clinton.

Would like you to come to an event.

All your -- of town for a few months.

That that's really tell us now there's one other issue that you guys didn't mention that I think is equally important.

-- democratic.

Super pacs have raised precious little money.

And the largest single donor as far as I can help is Bill Maher call that -- -- about a million bucks that's it that's in this.

And of itself of those people -- -- HBO and -- giving their money to the good Marty get to to Obama.

President Obama but you know the thing about the money is on the air I think they are doing something that is not not that stuff.

Diverting money at a fast rate they are investing -- in the building of organizations and -- -- really big organizations.

Testing them out as they -- North Carolina last -- -- -- mini field offices every day this Republican primary goes on the Republican Party has no campaign in place.

In the states but they've decided.

Did a very close election that invest -- eventually pay off their problem is there a way under there are running deficits now they have so much less -- hand.

And they haven't spent any money on advertised.

They did they also spend a little bit of -- to make a seventeen minute.

Vanity video about what they've done and -- three years of this presidency and it's on their website written about in the New York Times.

But both I've not seen they got the the award winning.

A documentary and Purdue who did this.

Waiting for Superman and also -- the other.

What's been admonished Guggenheim David Davis Guggenheim yes it's -- citizen and degenerate level on a case of this is kind of thing -- doing campaigns.

Where you do with the -- the candidate.

Which don't let anybody else do you do -- usually it's why I've done it we have to make it because otherwise you're never left alone you runner up wants to -- happy.

No this is for the whole country it is this is -- sort of thing left in the fight were Republicans are the opposite I'd be showing all the undecided -- marginal voters.

This is what Obama believes that his moves are -- we can effort there's no recognition of the reality of their.

-- -- the only thing I could see them.

In terms of practical utility of the video was for fundraising purposes yes to mobilize the base to confuse people not what you would give swing voters -- well.

The last but I -- I wanted to help that's why it came out last week when the assault began on Romney Santorum Gingrich I think it's red meat.

For their base they see the Republican base has -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Rasmussen can -- us this is an election it to me and we'll be back in a second to.

Talk more about the Republican primary this is an election to be the more they talk the less interest it.

Everybody is and that has profound implications for our democracy and for what we're -- discuss next the Republican primary.

We'll be right back and and and.
