With Illinois voters heading to the polls in a half hours you might think center -- arms only battles with the other GOP candidates.
Tonight senator Rick santorum's also -- -- -- via Twitter what else with -- Obama's campaign strategist David Axelrod.
Today Axelrod treated with a seven to one spending -- hard to -- -- -- role and in Illinois tomorrow.
You can't turn on the TV not -- two -- three negative ads on Santo.
And -- -- -- -- back from the campaign trail he said.
Hopefully people will vote for the man over the money senator Santorum joins us from East Peoria Illinois it is senator.
Well thank you Greta it's great to be with here from east fury we just had a great rally -- back gov well over a thousand people we had about.
2000 people in Dixon and that stand in front of the Ronald Reagan -- right there the heart of Dixon it was.
It's just been a great day -- Moline and Rockford we've got a great day here and alibi.
I well as a great state now tell me about his battle you're -- would David Axelrod -- that Twitter.
Well you know.
You know it we've seen and they in these past elections that money just doesn't -- elections and David did you know Mitt Romney would have -- up this nomination along time ago he's been -- spending all their candidates 567810.
-- and and it's not what in the election and have -- we've got the energy in the enthusiasm on our side and you know David Axelrod is -- -- his opinion that.
You know ten times he's been wrong we want ten states and -- -- -- fortune enough to pull off a huge upset here in the Illinois and I know would be an upset that.
You know that's what they said last week in Mississippi we couldn't do it there and we did.
I want -- hype around the stunt to me there's admitted it was posted today.
It's a governor Mitt Romney video from 2008.
And you're standing there endorsing him saying no one puts words in my mouth if you -- -- conservative you must look for Mitt Romney.
Not you're saying for years later that he's not the concern is a -- get a run that video.
Well you should also -- watch later in that video where Mitt Romney.
Thanks -- for the endorsement and it goes on and tells me the true conservative than someone who is.
Strong and principled on economic issues and -- national security expertise.
You know we were saying good things about each other and it I was endorsing for president four years ago but.
Unfortunately over that four year period of time he's done a lot of things that have undermined my trusted him and first.
Was supported the Wall Street bailout second was advocating.
For Romney care at the federal level which he did in 2009.
He said -- -- just for Massachusetts but he rode out beds and went on television and said that present Obama should follow the Massachusetts model.
If that's the wrong approach it's a government run top down approach it's the wrong approach for the federal government.
I opposed obamacare and -- we can't have a candidate Mitt Romney who gives away the most important issue in this race which is our economic freedom with obamacare.
We answer part of these races sort out so what's a legitimate question asked of cannons and what's -- pitting one against the other but today that you know -- so I think it's it's an issue raises it governor Romney of -- an economic lightweight.
On the flip side your campaign has been hitting them the last couple -- is I'm putting his dog on the roof of the car so -- -- one by one he says you're an economic lightweight and -- I take you some economic policy -- to respond to that had your thoughts.
-- I mean it's really it's really interest in the governor Romney whose record is governor of Massachusetts was 47 out of fiftieth in the country.
And job creation after the previous four years at Massachusetts was sixteenth in the nation.
-- -- -- -- -- and I was Saturday though they did not see it.
They also have very low unemployment rate at the time so let's say you know I think he got -- factor that in as well.
Bush you know Greta we -- low unemployment rate everywhere many at a player it was four point 3% across the country during that period of time so.
-- everybody -- unemployment rate but still compared everybody else.
He wasn't getting people moving into the state they weren't creating jobs look it would -- one on.
And Texas and other states where people were moving in droves because he created an environment for people to be able to grow their businesses and expand and the governor Romney -- did he put -- all he put on Romney care which -- which was a huge red flag to.
To businesses not to come to -- to Massachusetts as -- said he created six times more public sector jobs and private sector jobs and I he increase taxes by almost a billion dollars and and and you know you -- did.
It all sorts of -- an -- is about a 40% spending increase this is not at.
This is not someone who understands how to -- out he may he may have done well on Wall Street but he didn't apply the principles of limited.
Limited government intervention in business when he came to the governorship of Massachusetts.
And that's why didn't run for reelection because he could they got reelected with a record that he had.
-- yesterday -- it's ABC and the question of Afghanistan.
You said in reference to Afghanistan let's either commit to winning a word get out how.
With fewer presents tonight which one is it every committing -- -- and -- winning are we getting out because.
So -- whatever reason.
Why I've I've been very clear that I believe that we we don't get involved -- daughter get our military involved in any situation like we -- we commit to victory.
And pres Obama when he took office said he was gonna you know fight the real war if you recall and the real world -- Afghanistan and he quickly put a timeline and what he put a timeline in place what he dead.
Was he gave the enemy something that we can never give the enemy in this situation which is hope.
And he gave the enemy -- That we would have thought they would have the opportunity to hunker down -- be able to survive it and that's and that's why we have we've had the limited success we've had in Afghanistan.
Yeah but if your president I mean that -- -- whoever the next president whether it's President Obama or someone else is at.
That that's the past week we now have that in -- affected anyone who comes and offices to deal with the situation weren't so.
You know looking back at you know why we got there isn't gonna do us -- -- -- what would you be doing.
If he became president in light of where we are we have a timeline maybe get rid of it -- -- -- what would you do.
Why if if we were still on Afghanistan when I became president I would you know again you have to assess the situation and see what where where we are bad.
Assuming that we're in a similar situation that we are right now.
I would commit to to making sure that we had success I would do what is necessary to demoralize the enemy to let them know that we are gonna stay there and it may not be in the capacity we are now we've made we may have a whole different troop complement a whole different strategy but the strategy would be to get to successfully.
-- eliminate the Taliban is a threat.
That doesn't mean -- completely eliminate the Taliban and eliminates -- threat and that is the objective in Afghanistan.
In campaigning around Illinois most important issue.
Well I mean people are anxious about a whole variety of different things obviously the economy people are concerned about the economy here a lot about the debt and the deficit and and what we're doing as far as bankrupting this country and and I hear a lot about obamacare and and and the issue of freedom I mean I I was talk about that there's big things at stake in this election that.
You know the economy support unemployment is important.
That's not the big issue the big issue is how we are losing our freedom because really government.
I'm controlling businesses and people's lives is what's causing the economy to be in such bad straits right now.
So we have to look at the fundamental issue in the fundamentalists in America.
Is whether -- -- gonna be a free country or whether government is going to be.
Dictating to us you know what health care what loans what cars and everything else in our lives.
You know he's even -- mean I heard that early today -- and serve bad the bandied around those the big gaffe by use in that unemployment is not -- that freedom is more important.
And and I was trying to think you know what to ask you about our how to ask it.
I actually maybe it's just me but I actually think if you're unemployed as much you love those lofty principles of freedom and you wanna keep them that -- unemployment sort of rises the top is the more current and more important issues and an almost and it's an urgent issue for a lot of Americans and so it's freedom is important and everything but -- Boy that job is real important.
Well yeah -- understand you have to understand what I what I said was that the unemployment rate it didn't matter what it was between now and election time because the fundamental issue.
That's causing the unemployment that's causing the economic distress and our country.
Is the fact that the government is is imposing its will and mandating things on people and -- the yoke on top of businesses that makes it hard.
To employ so if you want to solve the unemployment problem.
You've got to solve the regulatory tax and government oppression problem.
So what does a what does -- cause of the other so it's not that unemployment is an important.
It's just yet to get to the foundational root cause of what's causing the unemployment.
-- -- I received a Secret Service name that's so everyone now knows it's is it happens is that the name.
Yeah that's -- actress yeah.
Can you give a similar background that.
-- if tetris is they is a Latin word for Peter and -- you've heard me talk repeatedly about my grandfather's name -- -- is PH -- on I just that indicted think PH or would work I just.
I did it it's a name and I didn't want -- name so I thought it up Petra switches.
Which is a Latin word for for Peter and for rock I thought was was a more apt name then -- an Italian name for Peter.
I understand that they got around his name is -- one -- -- -- final thoughts on that debt.
-- myself and -- -- a light note done on your Secret Service made.
-- I -- I I I think yeah I you know I I I understand he named it after an American motors I remember the javelin so it was a -- area.
It's an unusual cars so I had I think -- artifacts.
I just said I think you and good luck tomorrow polls open -- eight hours and no will be watching course thank you senator.
Thank you very much better.
