It let's talk for a moment about what's at stake during this election I know obviously you guys have a real sense of what voters are thinking about in your.
Think from what I hear from -- coming from what are you hearing from.
The base there'll what do they wanna see more and are they saying that they're still not comfortable with Mitt Romney as the nominee.
I'm not seeing that all I'm saying is everyone's.
Having a great spirited debate about.
About the issue than really about jobs and and that's still coming to the forefront so as far as you know Cook County is concerned.
The base is very very strong and ready go out there and going to.
No music asking -- -- pat also.
Are -- the voters there are upset are fed up with all this fighting has gone between the three candidate the top three candidates between.
Santorum Gingrich and -- Romney at this point.
Now I think it all night and voters are upset with the state of the -- I don't think you can analysis has gone on without looking at where we are as a state -- of the worst.
States in the country insofar as that deficit and job creation most people here concerned with the economy not worried about that.
-- intra party squabble and they just want to elect the candidate that can.
Fix our economy both here in the state and nationally I think that Mitt Romney has given the -- message here in the last eight or ten days.
How is president fairy in Illinois and some state obviously Chicago -- sounds in his hometown.
What are voters saying they're about the president is its popularity still.
Quite high there.
You know -- interest -- -- that question in 2004 when he won the senate -- yet 70% of vote.
And that 2010 presidentially was in the low sixties.
Right now he's in the low fifties if you outside worsening and I are sitting here and should come out of the western suburbs and down state.
I he's below fifty so I think he's personally popular -- likes the guys from -- he's got a great family.
I think -- -- policies particularly on Ohio unemployment and job creation -- been devastating for the citizens of Illinois.
So I'm not sure his policy policies are are to popular fine but then the bigger point and more important point from our perspective is.
The race -- they.
Speaker Pelosi to take back.
Her speakership comes through on -- why they're gonna be here contesting these.
Congressional pick -- so we got -- 2010 election -- the bigger point is Alia President Obama isn't doesn't have any coach are any coattails now.
That's very interesting indeed.
Something didn't really pay close attention to when it comes to the speakership race going on -- very interesting -- let me ask you about gasoline prices how much of a factor is that going it is going to weigh on.
People come the general election thing.
I think it's it's coming it's a huge factor on -- because.
And Chicago and Illinois.
No along the gas prices we also have with a guy highest gas tax and sales tax in the country and Cook County.
So let alone where we're fighting the the Obama gas increase for you know over a 100%.
We're also fighting -- -- state and and the local with the sales and gas taxes and and and here and the people of -- -- just fed up with it.
We're the highest price per gallon gas in the country's 470.
Gallon for gallon gasoline could account for regular gas -- senator.
-- worst in the country right now highest in the country that's amazing and so is it your expectation.
That is gonna go to 55 maybe six this summer.
I hope not I really don't know I think makes the point that not only are -- know bad.
Or lack of energy policy from the presidential level that Alan -- now as a high tax state and a lot of the cost of the gas.
Is because of the taxes and who were unique in that we.
Not only tax on we we -- another total tax on the tax and it's it's an unbelievably.
Bad tax environment here now.
-- -- every area into this conversation because they're hearing it from the the leading Republican Party in Cook County as well as Illinois.
Blading it actually explain -- to my earlier point.
If you've got the highest.
Price for a gallon right there.
No wonder -- Romney hit it -- -- that the issue yeah there you go limited makes all the sense in the world.
Yeah it's it's it's terrible and I mean if you want to see example where the country is going.
With the high spending or big spending high tax big government policies you look no further than the stated on all right we're that -- -- on the brink of financial collapse.
48 and job creation and it's all because we had single party Democrat rule on this -- big government big tax Democrat -- -- -- -- country's -- just -- spent a couple days here on.
And people are -- Out of this state businesses.
And and individuals just to save save on taxes -- and all the communities there are surrounding the Wisconsin Indiana.
Borders the businesses are dying because everyone's going across state to about a major purchases.
How much would you say in terms of percentages and the business and he lost -- Cook County for example people moving out of Chicago area.
And going elsewhere out of state.
Or what would you estimate -- -- if you don't have those figures perhaps just in general in Illinois people -- fleeing the state because of the taxes and it's -- -- what would you say the percentages are right now.
Yeah I don't know the exact percentage maybe -- -- but what's disturbing here is.
This is a company threatens the -- of our our Democrat governor goes down gives me huge tax break we have no macro.
Economic policy to deal with the problems here in the -- on on but I know we've lost a couple 100000 jobs.
Over the last few years and get companies like caterpillar threatening to leave him in the largest employer in the state threatening to leave while it in -- -- makes a great point.
You go across the border -- -- that what Mitch Daniels the great things he's done an Indiana where Scott Walker Wisconsin and John basic and in an Ohio.
Mean we've gone when every other state was cleaning up their financial -- We want just the opposite 67%.
Income tax increase by the Democrats last session south and -- If that you have an example of why big gap if you -- example like big Democrat big government policies don't work is coming on line.
And also -- you you you also -- have not only the big taxes on everything happening here.
And and Cook County.
But what they're giving tax breaks -- certain corporations which raises taxes on all the other people.
And yet that the governor raise another the budget a billion dollars.
So who certain corporations get tax phrase what we all other businesses are owned small business we all have make up that difference on that shortfall.
It's not like cutting the better spending a word we're increasing spending and -- From burning all the small businesses more.
How about -- -- is -- an anti ahead here.
Here's another point to that didn't get much press coverage but I think it's as important and yes.
But the overall popularity of the president here he came into town now last -- get a huge fund raiser which he's done I think I'm in town -- -- now and he's pulled a lot of money out of online.
No -- his jet flew down to Atlanta flew right well over Harrisburg on I which had just been hit by tornado.
And seven people killed all kinds of damage and he was devastated you know again -- it -- sobering we were I had over the this story.
-- the course is the president got to Harrisburg.
Honoring those people down there was 30000 feet as an airplane in FEMA has denied funding.
For the people out of Harrisburg and Ridgeway insulin slain in Galveston County so if you wanna ask a popular president is down that part -- that I don't think he's very popular right now.
I was not exactly on topic but why is -- -- denying me funding there.
Because our state government is so incompetent they can get the appraisals right it didn't -- the federal standards and I think hopefully.
Senator Kirk -- Republican senators intervened and we're gonna get it done that the president didn't you know.
Take time from his fundraising schedule and down and talk to the folks from his own statement I think a lot of people on their -- Very happy getting busy getting bashed -- and by the critics pretty loudly in the opinion pages on talk radio down -- -- -- prefer not.
Paying a visit to those folks.
I think celebrating more important any it is took a stroll down there -- find a lot of people on the ground that have been the victims of the strategy tragedy are real high.
In aren't real thrilled with the president.
And I am not doing more so to that point Eric I mean the fact that Illinois got a lot of problems and it's on board says that's going on but it's in.
You know the president's home state.
Well as the president some say so conceptually that matters.
That that the Harrisburg you know whether he stopped to whether he did stop -- I actually don't see any press about that I'm not sure why.
That if I was a Republican strategist I would make sure that that was getting a lot of press but I but I don't see -- it's getting a lot of press and you know -- of course.
Any place where there's a tragedy.
The pulse of the country is usually measured by how people are feeling in that area that we go and assistant take care of best we could.
And it and that 58 FEMA somehow being denied and it's bureaucratic mess over that I bet they're unhappy understand -- -- And understandably so it just amazing that it's just like a no brainer that the president would wanted to stop there and just you know.
You -- reach out to those folks in his -- to in his own home state so.
There's a lot going on -- guys I know I hear you what -- out of all of this though do you think you and you're -- -- -- Romney is the one that's really connecting with voters in a way that is really resonating at this point.
I know his numbers are really out there really hide the moment but what is it about his message that's connecting the voters there.
Well from my aspect is does again as a businessman honor is his business background and not being -- career politician.
To me that's something that's the very impressive.
And we we taken you know insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting to -- different result.
You know we need to have somewhat -- fresh ideas that's out of DC that can really make a difference there.
And -- when I agree I think I think.
I know I think on that positive message I think that's resonating.
Very well here in -- -- I gotta say that.
Comment the senator Santorum and -- made I'm Puerto Rico but English speaking and everybody had to be English speaking.
The vice chairman of the -- Republican Party is just vanishes from Mexico City.
She's she's an engineer a large technology firm -- she took offense in the fact.
That he would make that statement we have a large Hispanic population in Chicago and it's critical for an -- -- critical.
-- Republican -- I think that statement was I don't think that a much good in fact I think -- really gonna hurt him.
In the polls.
And do you think that in this particular isn't human focusing so much on the economy that economic -- -- -- -- social -- in this election.
-- It's social issues are always important to Republican voters and they always will be but I think.
That the economic issues now have -- the social issues and social issues are acting out social issues that today are I don't have a job in my houses in foreclosure and it's pretty tough.
That to have family values and got a job so I think people as they have been for the last several years are more concerned.
-- get the economy going again and having jobs than that than the social issues right at this.
That's all very compelling indeed -- gentlemen thank you so much for our.
Taking time his busy day to be with us and expressing your views and giving us some insight system really what's going on there.
I think as you point out a lot of press and not been made in this and I'm really glad -- able to fans -- -- thank you.
Okay thank you appreciate it.
