Not on Fox's American Idol and we're very pleased to have -- this the great designer Tommy Hilfiger.

And -- -- thanks so much for being -- -- you're involved in -- teamed up with American -- as an image -- advisor.

Why now and tell us what you'll be doing.

But ultimately all of this great talent has to not only perform well on stage but -- have to look great.

And I was asked to be image -- -- I thought it would be exciting and unique and challenge.

It has been and it is working with these incredibly talented musicians.

Is lots of fun and I think ultimately the winner will not only have great musical ability but a great sense of style.

So it's becoming very competitive from a fashion standpoint on the show the -- you know it's really amazing to see the transformation.

But some of these people during the early competition.

Especially when they're just trying out -- -- in you know how they're dressed and so forth and then all of a sudden.

They look completely different in terms of what they're wearing it's very stylish it's very hip.

What are you trying to do in particular.

With -- your designs.

What I'm not really focusing on dressing them in my own designs I'm basically focused on.

Advising them on what they should be wearing in order to improve their own individual sense of style right.

And it may be taking their existing cowboy boots and matching them up with.

Something from another designer or maybe something vintage.

Or something a little more rock and roll in less pop.

So it's really helping shape their individual style so that when they get on the stage they'll feel confident and they will have their own.

Real sense of style it's -- Tommy I take it that you consider the song.

Tight.

And genre that that they're singing to incorporate within your style recommendations.

I think it's really important because that's part of the personality ultimately.

No one will become.

A country star one will become maybe a -- star one will become.

A punk rock star.

And there's another one who loves pop so I think that.

In each one of those genres.

And even and many other genres there is a style associated with it.

And you -- -- put a style associated with it so literal sort of balances and matches what they're performing now.

-- -- my daughter grace who's about turned sixteen just -- fashion wants to be designer some day she has for years been drawing up different kinds of designs and outfits she makes her own clothes she's learned how to do that.

Act and she.

I must say always seems to be sort of on that cutting edge of the different design she follows the fashion shows.

And so more and so forth what are you seen out there in terms of future trends.

-- there's so many trends out there.

And we're looking at the globe at the same time we're no longer just looking at America for four trends and no longer just taking may -- European trends as inspiration.

We're looking at at the entire globe.

And there's such an eclectic mix of clothes and style.

It's really how you put it together it's not necessarily getting one designer from head to toe to where.

It's about how you put a mix of stuff together.

And I think that that is.

Proving that you know sometimes some but one has a great sense of style in how they put it together now.

Does it move more rapidly Dick Cheney tastes change more quickly nowadays and for example -- have decades ago when you started out.

It's changing but it's cyclical so we're always comes back it's really when it comes back.

And when it comes back how comes back what it what it is reborn as because many times.

A style will come and go but then come back a year or five years later.

In a totally different way so it's really all sort of a moving target.

And if any one time.

It is it always changing and always fluid you could say.
