There -- troubling new numbers out today on autism the number of cases here in the US are at the highest rate ever recorded.
According to a new report to one in every 88 children.
Either has autism or some type of related disorder.
Doctor Robert a little low is the specialists of functional neurology.
And co-founder of the brain balance centers.
And also with us is Fox News medical eighteen -- Dr.
Manny Alvarez doctors I'm so glad that you're here because this is a stunning report -- rate has gone.
It's jumped from one in every 110 children to now one in every 88 children doctor -- What do you think is going on here.
Well he said that's a 25% increase just the last two years that's actually.
Doubled over the past ten years.
And part of the increase seems to be that we're better at diagnosing it -- more familiar with the but that can explain -- all.
So therefore for -- we're seeing these types of almost epidemic increases we have to look at environmental factors -- the only way we can explain you can explaining just through genetics.
In that way.
I'm Dr.
Manny we should let our viewers know you have a child with autism -- what do you think is at the root of this job.
Well look I think the number reflects.
Probably more diagnosing and and identification from Paris I think that the number really doesn't mean anything I think the numbers showing that you do have a -- Epidemic.
And and and really nobody is paying attention you know our children.
Are not being taking care of by especially by the federal government at any level.
Because -- is something I deliver babies for a living so you say give me documenting what do you think the cause of autism -- I'll tell you probably right now is -- in fact order a little bit of genetics a little bit of inflammation.
A little bit of toxicity I mean we're poisoning are pregnant women out there today in America poisoning I deliver babies I know would poisoning pregnant women so the cost is gonna be bold -- toward.
The big ticket item is that right now there are no resource is in America.
For autistic children every.
Because the schools are not.
Really.
You educated ready teachers don't know what to do.
And this is going to be that big is big it's epidemic in child development America for the next forty years put -- in the bank.
And with this huge rise of 25% of doctor Mona just said.
Will that change will now get the attention that your calling for no it's not gonna get the attention you know why.
Because right now.
-- you know look at people are focusing so many things and education today and teachers will tell you listen.
School budgets have been cut down states really right now half of them -- -- In bankruptcy protection -- what I like what all what do you want to see well what tools are doctors say well what I wanna see is.
If you're gonna if you -- to provide services for let's say children.
You -- give parents tax incentives so that they can go ahead and hire some private tutors.
He'll focus more attention in really developing skills and teachers.
Provide services -- on the on the stage so that we can get better recognition of symptoms.
And how well often said -- because I'm gonna tell you for a lot of children autism is reversible.
I think what you're alluding to it costs 72000.
Dollars a year to raise a child with severe autism.
Dr.
-- said that pregnant women are being -- I assume that you're talking about the toxicity levels of -- -- everyday household things and the environment do you agree doctor.
Well I think that were also poisoning ourselves our lifestyle in general is hurting us statistic just came out.
Last week showing that if a woman is has obesity high blood pressure or diabetes anywhere of those factors raises -- risk of having a child with autism by 60%.
Which means that those are reversible factors and there's a lot of things out there like taking prenatal vitamins that people can do to lower their risks that are significant.
Is the silver lining here that now with the -- New numbers that are so attention grabbing that there will be more research.
Sure hope so you know -- -- more children diagnosed with autism this year than childhood diabetes cancer and -- put together.
But yet -- autism gets less funding for research and any one of those individually so would you should be done really is more research we need to understand more what's happening.
And I think with more research we're gonna find is Dr.
Manny said that we can actually correct and reverse these problems.
You're so many people got to -- your families obviously directly impacted by every American family knows somebody with autism have to get to the bottom.
Let's of that as more as this statistic -- More critics will come on the table right now there are critics of that that will say well does it does not real these children just have -- behaviors these up neurotic parents you know what.
That's what's gonna happen and that's why we don't make a difference it's not in the -- it doesn't affect anybody it's not tangible you can touch it.
All the families that lived through it really know and trust you me this is going to get worse before it even gets.
Better documenting doctor -- thanks so much for coming and talking about this very heated topic we appreciate it.
Pharmerica lot of.
