Except story in America you probably don't know about yet Ohio governor John -- live in Columbus is here to talk about that governor welcome back to.
Americans news for.
Pay a bill I wish as Sam Brownback.
Good luck on this fight but I gotta tell you jayhawks and Kansas are going down Saturday and I started I didn't say that on it I didn't see that one come and I should have good luck to you OK now listen.
You -- -- all right your state is seven point 7% that's now below the national average.
When you compare that to -- that happened a year ago at nine point 0%.
What's happening in Ohio there.
Well -- the bill we are the number one job crater in the midwest and number five in the country at -- what happened bill we have an eight billion dollar hole and we eliminated it and we cut taxes at the same time the credit agencies have.
Taken a soft negative watch -- move us up to stable.
And we're up -- you know close to a 100000 jobs in the last year.
You know what happens is when you when you don't over regulate when you reduce your tax burden when you are responsible.
Running your government and you do not get yourself in the position.
But where you over regulate and based on the good work of the people of the state the workers here are location and our size.
People are getting confidence that they can expand here they can locate here because they're you know we're not gonna -- something not gonna fly out of that.
Out of the corner there and -- them upside the head date they are confident that we have stability here and we do in Ohio so I know what's awakened the sleeping giant.
I followed you and I listen to you at every stop you make in that state you talk about bringing jobs are bringing business back to Ohio.
But oil companies are hot right now natural gas companies are hot right now -- -- expanding that.
And your idea is it takes some of the profits in the oil companies -- given back to the people of Ohio.
Now now how.
How is that you know who got a one company.
Well you know right now bill we we tax oil in Ohio twenty cents on on what a 110 dollar barrel -- in the liquids that we have in the ground there are tax to zero.
So we believe that we should modernize our severance tax based on an old industry.
And and take the revenues from that and reduce all of our income taxes which helps small business and individuals and you know build -- one company says -- gonna take a trillion dollars of value out of the state.
We'd like to have some of adhere to benefit -- -- you -- more money in our restaurants in our banks and in people's pockets helping small business.
And so we think modernization makes the greatest amount of sense and the ability to continue to reduce income taxes is a huge deal.
What's happened bill and other states states like Texas Oklahoma.
-- they've all exported their tax burden to Ohio and we want to make sure that.
They don't take all this money out of this state back to Texas and Oklahoma and we get to keep some of it here are hard to understand -- economic benefit to our people.
If you look at at the politics of your state right now is Republican governor you have a tough vote against the union bill that was.
Six or seven months ago and now you look at the daily numbers okay.
What what what when your success in Ohio.
Could likely help a democratic president to a second term.
But this is the latest number we have when Mitt Romney goes head to head against Barack Obama he loses by eight points.
When Rick Santorum goes head to head against the president loses by six.
Does your success then cut both ways knowing the battleground state -- Ohio is.
And -- you know Reagan used to have a sign on his desk that said President Reagan it said it doesn't matter who gets the credit if you don't worry about that it's amazing we didn't get accomplished.
I don't care if it's a little Green man that they give the credit to.
People or work and now and you -- Ohio native and I gotta tell you there's optimism in Youngstown in Mahoney valley we've not seen before.
We see cities recovering like Toledo.
Crossed the crossed the state in we have a diverse economy and things are going better and better no we're not out of the woods seven point 6% unemployment and -- -- how many kids in poverty.
But but but bill I mean look we gotta stop all this politics about who gets this or who gets that at the end of the day Ohio be very competitive.
I will have my say about the best person around the federal government but it the end of the day we just got to create jobs because we don't -- -- -- a moral issue.
And -- -- most important moral issue in America mom and dad work inning kids get and out of poverty.
You get that go on the family strengthen that you know that's which strengthens everything in our communities and in our country.
And -- better country after that governor thank you John case.
