Time and time again the Republican.
Establishment.
And aristocracy.
Have shot down the throats of the Republican Party and people across this country.
Moderate Republicans because of course we have to win by getting people in the middle.
That was a former Pennsylvania Rick Santorum.
Down there in southwestern Pennsylvania Mars Pennsylvania.
In a non concession concession speech delivered after losses in the District of Columbia Maryland and Wisconsin.
That's what happened last night and -- -- and this is power play by the way if you didn't already know Internet.
And what Rick Santorum is trying to do is stake his claim on Pennsylvania.
It's his former home state it's a big delegate prize in the Republican nominating contest.
But it may also be the way that he can get out of the Republican race with his head held high.
And with us still talk about that is David -- he is -- -- he's a very good journalist who works at roll call.
And Tony Welch he is a Democrat.
He loves America -- a former spokesman for the Democratic National Committee.
So and we would stipulate Tony in advance and don't be too need to the Republicans in this segment they don't have any of their own number here to speak for themselves.
Try I tried to try to be high minded on the radar right -- so that the question is.
Guys.
Santorum strategy.
Now it's.
Based on the numbers as I wrote today.
Romney.
Needs 42% of the delegates remaining to clinch.
He's 158% of those so far.
Santorum needs 75%.
-- percent.
He's only won 25%.
Of those so far so the the argument the argument about saved form winning outright is pretty well exhausted at this point.
He's relied -- -- strategy where you prevent Romney from getting the necessary number you keep -- -- that 48% threshold and then you've taken to the convention and you try to win.
So with that being the case let's talk gentleman describe for me Rick santorum's chances in his former.
-- Well I think his chances -- -- released today are still very competitive in the polling has shown that I think the question is.
What happens over the next two or three weeks as it really sets in that he can't win won't win.
Enhance it ever.
Use the momentum he had.
To put together a real national campaign that can compete with Romney and by extension president.
And I think what we've seen it is not only.
Republicans.
-- balls and strikes if you will slowly but surely coalescing around.
Mitt Romney we've seen a desire her camera but -- -- evangelicals.
In Wisconsin he won theory conservatives in Wisconsin those are things that he does not usually do all of the police had trouble and we've also seen a desire I think even among Republican voters.
To turn their attention to the president because the president and his allies have had a clear path.
Fun challenge to whack -- Republicans left to right.
And I think Republican voters are getting tired of -- and worried that.
It's not going to help them to draw this thing out I don't think we'd be having this discussion if Romney and Santorum were virtually tied in delegates.
Either one could win.
In both had really strong campaigns.
And whatever -- for the party we wouldn't be sitting here -- somebody's gotta leak well and and certainly.
Tell the guys you you may remember Wilson on the 2008 democratic primary residence.
Where.
The both scenarios that you just described it was a pleasure to tighten to Titanic campaigns.
Pounding away at each other and taking it through and the calls for Clinton Hillary Clinton to drop that big gay and chew a bubble up later but certainly at this point in the process it was still do you remember the Kodak Theatre Hollywood debate ahead of the California primary between Obama and Clinton indicated it was -- -- all of Hollywood democratic Hollywood was there they were just so thrilled they were so excited and I remember one guy I don't wish that actor it was was like.
I just wish you both could be present I was like why.
This is different this business -- this -- Is slightly different than them but I'll point out that the call them was for Hillary to get out of the race before the convention right right that was -- that was it and -- to not have -- scheduled to take a similar here -- That I mean there's one other thing that would change the dynamic here I think that would be if President Obama were pulling well.
-- reasonably well vs Mitt Romney right and frankly if Mitt Romney's negatives hadn't taken a -- Over this time because you can have a contested race and still see yourself and job well that hasn't been that hasn't been the case in this race which I think produces a lot of things.
Among them among those and so this is where combination where this is recognition will probably better off of this in sooner.
And then there's this.
Reluctance or those lukewarm endorsements -- we've heard about what you wouldn't that sound kind of strange well he's going to be the nominee the nominee -- -- endorsing right because he's going to win I'm asking him as opposed to.
I appreciate his vision this is I like the other person but here's -- staking my claim because this person's better.
That person he's not getting that kind of -- Okay now Rick Santorum when he'd win last in Pennsylvania.
Had a very bad out of Walt -- lost by eighteen points overall and remarkably.
Lost 14%.
Of the Republican vote example say that 14% of Republicans in Pennsylvania voted against him.
Against Bob Casey junior.
And part of that by David -- hard feelings.
Over the 2004 endorsement that mavericks -- were made for Arlen Specter who was a -- Republican who became a moderate Democrat.
Flipped over then lost his primary in 2008.
To admiral -- -- -- And -- Pat -- the guys who Rick Santorum -- against the social conservatives fiscal conservative Club for Growth guy.
One and is now a US senator -- with this background there just how does this change for Santorum the -- in Pennsylvania.
Well.
You know I think that the stakes -- being.
Figure for Santorum if -- win there could actually propelled him cash into serious attention for the nomination.
I think that he could win.
And it still won't matter that much given Romney's delegate lead.
And of course he has set this up as a do or die which means that.
Like Romney faced questions in.
You know Michigan about how much you can win by right he's gonna he's the heat get out this is this is where santorum's -- did -- -- get.
Only the last word on this topic and just quickly.
-- Santorum.
Doesn't win against me even if it doesn't get closer to the nomination does that help or rehabilitation effort for him does that do something good for him I think that does something good dramatic loss of stability there and that's the glory for him should be like a lot of other states where he led by just a few points going into them.
He's outspent and that he loses and I think that -- -- as easily Pennsylvania as it did in Ohio.
And they're funny moderate voters in Pennsylvania I don't know whether you have been affiliate.
But that ain't exactly.
Logan county West Virginia Tony thank you for being my kids today you are tied to do so I wanna tell you what reader -- -- lit match has to say.
Finally let the lives that makes a good not emotional arguments -- the Internet is just all over you okay mom -- for the prestigious love you okay.
