Welcome back to Hannity so what is the status of Newt Gingrich -- the presidential race are -- Brit Hume asked the former speaker over the weekend much that's.

You seem reckons.

Out of the likelihood if not the inevitability.

Of Mitt Romney as your party's nominee.

Well I think you have to be realistic and given the size and his organization given the number of primaries he's one he is far and away the most likely Republican nominee.

And if he does get to 11144.

Delegates are supported under their care in this all the helping defeat Obama because of the primary goal.

Of the entire Republican Party has to be the defeat Barack -- so what makes this maybe the most important election in my life it.

And joining us now is the former speaker of the house of self.

Newt Gingrich misspeak -- the back -- to see it.

It's good to see you don't know I have to say John if you what you just played was exactly right.

Most likely not certain.

If he gets there.

That got somehow translated almost instantly.

Into something I didn't -- I found a remarkable because yesterday afternoon.

I joined millions of Americans in watching the masters.

And the two guys who ended up in the sudden death.

Were neither one in first place when the last round again.

Now neither of them drop out -- -- mean -- I've been since June of last year the elite media has said.

Over and over and over.

You know by -- actually get out of went on and -- when I recognize reality I am in here they are getting tattooed up here.

All the way to Tampa FFF.

-- process.

-- we're we're fighting -- and you know me for years we are fighting for very big issues that matter to the future of our country.

And the future of our children and grandchildren.

And I'm gonna continue doing that as long as it is possible to do it period.

Now.

If I find it confusing why that is such a hard message to drive into the media.

-- -- it's not for me and and and I'll be honest there's and I said just to governor Romney have set it to US -- -- Rick Santorum.

And I know maybe you know as an outsider looking in -- but also having been out on the campaign trail with all three -- you.

See how hard it is and you actually were talking a little bit about this yesterday.

And then watching it in a very odd and a very strange way.

As is typical Clinton is people's I'm sure it has been for all of you at times and may -- -- -- -- have also seen you know moments of -- for all of you.

And is a lot of reward in this but hey you know and a very of strange way you all made each other better stronger.

Tougher.

I mean W failure a lot different and as so -- this deep into the process.

And -- -- -- using by the Super Bowl the teams are better than they were the opening week.

Well -- I mean of course is that I think you know all and -- and -- notice that by the way the Democrats survival -- the Obama and Clinton fighting each other all the way to late June.

This panic stricken national establishment -- only.

Is just pure foolishness.

The fact is there are big issues -- -- I'm I'm talking united from North Carolina Calista is giving a speech in New York.

I'm on the way to Delaware on Wednesday.

I was stop off in Philadelphia Tuesday night then -- on -- Saint Louis I'll be back here in Raleigh and Greenberg of Greensboro on.

Saturday.

You know I don't quite know how to get across to the the reporters covering politics.

That's a real campaign schedule I'm here doing real campaign things -- can come join me tomorrow if they'd like to an eastern Carolina led to see them.

They -- join me on Wednesday in that Delaware.

Glad to see them.

The during this campaign and you did say that you were quote I want to make sure -- get this -- given up this.

You know you hit as hard as you could he hit me as hard as he could.

She talked about that -- have you met with have you spoken with governor Romney about how personal this has gotten.

That you've gotten to this point where it does a little bit of now you have it.

Now none of them have a while and only we've talked about overtime but -- about also talked about a publicly in several debates.

I was trying yesterday make a bigger point that I hope every conservative eve in the country will agree with.

Whether it's Gingrich Santorum or Romney and it's obviously -- brother have -- be Gingrich.

Whoever we nominate.

We have to beat Obama.

And so appeals Harry gonna get back together I -- pretty simple if you put up a picture of Obama.

And I guarantee you -- -- -- -- support Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich I believe Rick Santorum will support new game which -- Mitt Romney.

How support either Rick Santorum or Romney if the alternative is -- Obama.

Yeah this is not a hard discussion.

You and that's why people got to be realistic about it you also talk a lot and in the last couple times that I've had a chance to speak with you about how important the party platform is to -- And that is what happens in Tampa explain what you mean by that.

Follow -- first first -- and he's been very active trying to help build this party since 1960.

I think platforms do matter because -- about more than one individual there about a of that thing called the Republican Party.

How -- and argue very strongly for an American energy independence plank.

That I think will be very very powerful and argue for the young people having the right to have a personal Social Security savings account.

I think we ought to take all the royalties we get from oil and gas put -- -- to a special debt reduction -- to start paying off the national debt.

There are several other big areas and I'll be talking about the next few days -- I think really matter and here's a challenge for governor Romney.

He is said is as a cheap thanks -- for example of these severely conservative.

He also had a good communications director said well the whole campaigns like an Etch A Sketch you can erase it and start over.

I think the platform is an opportunity for governor Romney and from -- senator Santorum and myself to communicate to the country.

What a Republican team would do and to try Franchitti -- our senate and house candidates to sign up for a platform.

So people understand they're voting for real change we don't just want not Obama.

We want to move Washington back towards more conservative government more limited government implementing the tenth amendment to return power back home.

And a whole series of steps that we think really matter for America's future.

This is something I have done my whole career.

I believe deeply in the importance of the party standing for something real.

And I'm gonna campaign from here to Tampa to see it every delegate map and wherever -- happen before for president I hope every Republican delegate will agree.

That they want a solid conservative platform.

And a platform that gives us a signal for where we would take America when we win this fall.

I gotta be honest emotion and everything that you're saying and you've always been a guy have big ideas.

And if we don't adopt the things that you just mentioned if we don't put the men writing and give people that.

That positive reason to support.

A new administration we're not gonna fix what I -- to turn this problem around we're not gonna turn around.

You know we're not gonna write this ship and get and get America on the right track so I think I agree with you I think that's very key.

And so that.

That I I and I hope that's not a battle to be honest with you I hope that something we can all agree on because having interviewed all of -- it seems to be the boot to the point you're making a ones that.

All of you seem to agree on.

Look I helped the nine and 1984 a bunch of -- led by Jack Kemp.

Developing no tax increase pledge.

Against the Reagan White House staff Reagan liked -- his staff hated it.

We fought over for about seven weeks it was very healthy for the party.

And it really decisively made -- the anti tax increase party in a way which is less than all the way up to today.

These kind of discussions.

Spending the next five months first of all finishing out the nomination remind let me remind you.

I am not conceding to governor Reagan here -- governor Romney he's the front runner he's not currently the nominee he's got to win those delegates -- they're not going to be given to him.

I'm gonna do I think I can get a delegate.

Every vote I get -- North Carolina or in Delaware is a vote for a more conservative platform.

And because not five proportional it's a vote for delegates they're gonna clearly vote for a more conservative club from solid campaign all the way up.

We're gonna get to Tampa in the process let's have a national conversation.

Not just beat Obama -- what do we do to replace his bad policies his bed bureaucrats his bad positions and get America back on the right track.

You know I think that's something that dead.

Hey if people -- -- get the country on track we better have those ideas put him in writing put him in the platform and and we can hold everybody accountable to.

Which I think is a big part of the equation mister speaker always good to see you end we'll see out there on the campaign -- against -- thanks of the line.
