Was President Obama this morning leaving the White House and headed for can you guess where Internet can you guess.
Florida of course he's going to Florida.
And this is power play high and -- firewall in Internet when the president leaves town.
Quite often down to the sunshine state one of the key battlegrounds.
For the 2012 election.
President has been increasingly focused on Florida going forward he enjoys a slight lead actually pretty substantial -- in some recent polling.
And is hoping to put that state.
Back in the blue column again in 2012.
And we're gonna talk about that today we're gonna also talk about.
Mitt Romney's like ability deficit with President Obama.
And we're also going to talk about what Rick Santorum does from here it will be very good -- to predict it will be very good you know why I can so easily predict that.
Because Mary Katharine -- has agreed against -- better judgment and probably the advice of many of her career -- to join us again.
Here unless power play and help us get through she is columnist for the daily caller she's a Fox News contributor she is one of your very favorite people and and that I know because I read Twitter to.
OK so we're gonna talk about this lord.
Challenge for President Obama.
And to help us do that is one of your other friends Internet it's Bernard Whitman he's a democratic pollster.
He helped Bill Clinton.
Oh win two terms in office.
Bernard joins us from -- New York studios good morning good morning Chris thank you probably.
Of course all right so.
Mary can't -- let's start with you.
Florida president campaigns in Florida today he's -- overtime talking about the need.
That he says to make sure the people who make over a million dollars a year and it didn't pay at least 30% tax rate Democrats called the Buffett rule in reference to warn Buffett the investor from Omaha Nebraska.
Whose democratic donor who they -- pays more taxes -- -- hired Patrick and his secretary.
Is a key boyfriend he's gonna -- is gonna have to campaign event.
And then later in the week he's going to Tampa.
On his way out of town.
Is Barack Obama gonna win.
The -- looks decent for Hillary now but I think these these things are gonna go back and forth quite a bit before election especially because you have to change coming up.
Most likely pretty -- in the Republican campaign where Mitt Romney will kind -- would go head to toe with Obama after.
Something happened so.
We'll talk with a segment through it's a way I think the ground it's gonna change a lot I think that they need that by the rules of bogus idea it's almost.
It's almost guaranteed not to become -- lot if it did it would make us less competitive than for other countries as you just have to Jack up the cap gains -- -- really high.
But having said it -- pretty well.
It picks rather than brokerage and make -- millionaires -- That's -- Boca baby Bernard Bernard is Barack Obama gonna win Florida again I think -- will look there's a lot of runway between now and election we have almost thirty weeks.
But things are looking very good in the sunshine state and here's why.
You've got all these different blocs of voters that are moving over to Obama's side first there's a huge number of seniors as we all know in Florida and I think seniors are.
Increasingly frightened of the republicans' attempts.
Medicare number one number two Jews make up a large voting block down there and I think the president -- made it.
Very clear that he stands firmly with Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu against the threats from Iran I think third.
Is huge Latino population.
And we all know Mitt Romney is actually the most anti immigrant candidate in the entire race in fourth estate black population also -- in significant numbers -- I think that the president's very empathetic.
I embrace of trade on Martin's saying if I had a son he looked like -- -- on.
Really is going to a warm the hearts of the black committee so for those four reasons I think the president is off to a very good start in Florida.
Okay now Mary -- on that point about the the Ryan budget.
When he looks at where the votes are and where Democrats struggled the most in 2010 seniors were a big problem for Democrats and Republicans made hay out of the fact the president's.
Health care law includes substantial cuts on Medicare.
And had great success in that demographic.
To Bernard -- Florida I don't know whether you know.
Is there are some older folks and yes I guess in the end Bernard impression of the DNC email was very good but.
-- crazy I think.
It's there's no doubt that it is an uphill sale like just trying to save that Medicare is a huge burden on the federal government.
Trying to figure out -- number -- -- another source and they yes you're right trying to deal with the actual reality.
That means for the budget is tough it's a tough sell for seniors they are reliable voters and Obama is counting on the fact he can scare people away.
I don't think that's a great strategy for the future of the nation because eventually have to deal.
With this problem but -- yes it poses a problem for running he is not the greatest -- computer on this issue I think Brian is far better one.
Comment but I do think in the past two weeks when they've been talking about this it has been Obama.
During the Supreme Court stuff.
I'm talking about the budget plan who looks like the angry or one.
Where is running -- Ryan have done a sort of friendly guy discussion of the issue and I think haven't taken a baby so that's an interesting contrast that suggests to me that perhaps in the future.
Obama will not be the greatest indicator on this issue.
We're not on the health care law.
We will see it it's been in the news.
A very much of -- the latest polling we have actually predates.
The period of time that it's -- In the news as the Supreme Court was arguing about -- the president does invade against the Supreme Court overturning an act of congress it's gonna come back into the news in July.
-- in June when the Supreme Court renders its decision or announces -- decision.
On the law is that law which has been very unpopular with seniors is that going to continue to be a liability for the president in Florida.
Well I think frankly the health care laws something the president needs to proactively promote because there's actually -- huge number of benefits that the law provides and I think.
We started to see the president get out in front.
And really explain the benefits of the law the fact that there's no pre existing conditions the fact that parents I can't keep the kids on health insurance -- the doughnut hole.
For seniors in terms of extra prescription -- coverage -- was close the fact that.
It covers so much preventive care.
For women in the time when the Republicans for some absurd reason seem to.
The intent on waging un -- assault on women and women's health.
I think actually the health care law will end up being a net positive for the present we'll see what the Supreme Court ultimately decides but I think.
That the health care and the fact that the economy is really beginning to turn around we had a huge first quarter and the -- -- a little softer but since April began.
But the fact that the economy is picking up and he's got these double digit leads on a whole variety of measures with respect to protecting the middle class.
Understating people's basic economic problems protecting the interest of women -- foreign affairs I think all of these are issues that Florida's entire -- -- by pushing cares about.
-- in -- of -- war on women I think I've I've heard that you are one sells defend yourself.
At no time when the president has talked about the health Caroline how the number's gone up about health care a lot like when he goes out and on the road and he talks about a -- on many issues the numbers.
Don't move a whole lot he hasn't been very convincing people don't like -- -- he's attacking the Supreme Court last week.
Over a mandate that 72% of Americans believe is unconstitutional -- did it in a nasty.
Very political way I think those problems for -- I also think.
This huge burden in Florida very important I don't think the president has been clear that doesn't mean they're those people that registers voters are flooding the Republican Party and I do think.
When you see headlines and look -- -- -- like.
-- -- results stands by June bags staffer that maybe that headline is not great.
-- yeah Obama maybe not maybe not -- I don't know Bernard if you were on the if you're playing for the other team.
And you're trying to get Mitt Romney over the hump in Florida.
What would -- you were key -- key advice would you give him when you look at the polls and you see where the numbers are for him.
Well I would continue to try to play this story that America was talking about.
With respect to the health care law and try to inflame people's fears.
About that -- but I think.
We're seeing that seniors not only can see through that but they also understand.
That this election is more than a simply about other Medicare it's about the future of the countries about their grandchildren it's about creating.
For all generations in this country and I think that the president.
Has done an awful lot in the last four years to get us out of the grips of -- depression and many -- seniors down they're actually remember that and they appreciate that.
And they see the vision for the country that Obama has verses of the very narrow vision.
And -- sort of pessimistic vision for the a country that Romney has I think also that's gonna carry the day so.
If I were to give advice to Mitt Romney which I am want to do.
IE I would today -- he ought to be.
A bit more positive a bit more upbeat -- -- at the same time continued to spread those lies about health care.
And also remember where there's got our church the Cuban got -- dressed in nice and ventilated in the front they look good on -- it's always a good -- Bernard thank you very much for making time for us today thank you.
