-- problem segment tonight with the national debt running at about sixteen trillion dollars the US government has got to find a way to cut the spending.

And terror Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan he's the chairman of the House Budget Committee.

And he recently unveiled the GOP's budget plan that proposes 3.3.

Trillion dollars in deficit cuts.

By overhauling Medicare in the tax code among other things.

Last week President Obama attacked the Republican budget plan.

This congressional Republican budget.

It's something different altogether.

It is a Trojan horse.

Disguised as deficit reduction plans.

Is really an attempt to impose.

A radical vision on our country.

It is thinly veiled social -- -- when -- The radical social Darwin as Trojan horse itself from New York.

Is congressman Ryan congressman great to see you good to be -- you or.

I've ever gonna get -- -- tussle about the budget and so forth but before you get to that.

And now that that -- -- arms dropped out all eyes are on -- -- need and is vice presidential pick and it from me ask you to be is VP.

I know -- asked -- this before -- on the times chain unmitigated ever -- look.

I told emulated I'm not negative -- answered something you got to consider if he asked me to consider guide considerate but he -- so I'm not.

Now you just call -- and it just broke a couple of hours -- -- said that Romney is kind of a throwback to the 1950s.

He's a funny dude what does that -- know.

This was taken out of context number one what -- saying is he he has these great aspects from the greatest generation.

He's very civil.

He's very principle very honorable.

He has an earnest way about him like like leaders from the fifties.

And when I say he's a funny -- -- he's got a very witty sense of humor as I got a very quick mind.

And he's he's very quick on humor and wit.

So this is what happens in waters slice and dice your your comments -- -- and make that kind of an appearance what I said it was this man reminds me.

Of leaders from the greatest generation civil.

Honorable earnest.

I and he's got a very fast mine and he's a really funny guy.

-- -- say I I've always called Ward -- but I love the -- clean and -- Green although that's what I think of I think of you know I grew -- -- -- Leave It to -- OK I like hey mr.

-- Ward -- in he has these great attributes -- she's a very nice -- man he's very earnest we need someone if that's not a straight Wally and -- -- -- that we need an honest mature adult and -- o'clock exactly and that's the want to try to make.

I get -- a -- and it congressman let's move on this budget question because the president.

And it clearly is seeing you whether you're the vice presidential nominee are not seeing you and your budget as a target and his campaign.

And one of the things he's really saying is well what your plan does is he put more of a burden increasingly on the elderly so they're gonna have to pay for more of their health care down -- route Dana Milbank says it's 70770.

Billion dollars.

Of new fees and and and burdens on the pour it adds up to trillions over time.

And that's the.

Look worries to these verbal tantrums from the president.

This is just like the speech he gave last year.

What the president basically decide to do instead of offering solutions of his own to prevent a debt crisis wait for the Republicans -- their solutions that attack up.

I think he's decided rather than run on his record which he can't distort powers.

And speak to us us as Americans and divisive ways to distract and and this distort the country distract them from the election.

Look here's what happens -- if we have a -- crisis something that the president's policies bring us toward.

People who need government the most people who are poor and elderly they're the ones you get hurt the first in the worst if we have a debt crisis.

By getting our fiscal house in order -- we prevent a crisis from happening so that we can protect those who need government the most with respect to the poor.

And Obama's policies on working we have the highest poverty -- we've had in the generation one in six Americans are in poverty today.

These policies are making it worse.

So why should we keep throwing money at failed programs what were saying.

Is let's reform these programs to get people off of welfare and back to work.

Let's get economic growth -- so we can actually having a growing economy and job creation and economic opportunity to the people never seen it before.

We want to take those successful ideas we use in the late nineties for welfare.

And and put those in place for the other welfare programs.

Shouldn't get people on the lives of self sufficiency.

We want to attack the root causes of poverty to break the cycle of poverty.

Rather than just trying to treat the symptoms and make it easier to live by which I practiced with the practical implication of the -- -- And -- congressman what it was clearly happening -- -- in this larger debate that it's not even really a debate right because other than you and a few other serious people on Capitol Hill.

No one's even having -- substantive debate in comes the politics of division.

And demonization -- so the president has a vision.

Flight is by my count is budget -- -- and that house would supported but he came out his budget.

Am and I think now Mitt Romney is gonna be in this position of defense unless he goes on the offense right because he's going to be portrayed as.

Is the rich guy and -- -- -- one of his -- dotted tie she doesn't know what regular people are going through.

You give him advice I'm sure you would like to give me advice on a daily basis what's the one piece of advice you would give him in this current climate that you know what the president is operating -- Think he's doing it if if if you -- written -- -- speech in in Appleton Wisconsin.

Or is his speech the election night in Milwaukee Wisconsin it was perfect.

It said of the country.

We're going to the go to the country and give -- make clear affirming choice.

Do you want Barack Obama's government centered society and nation on path to debt and declined forty want the American idea you want the opportunity society -- you want growth you an opportunity.

This is the choice that we're going to -- -- country we're -- at least -- the country the choice of picking which path they want America to go on because this election we will be choosing a path.

And the question is do we do more of the same do we go to the president's -- -- -- decline over to reclaim the American idea that the prosperity and that is what Mitt -- offering the country.

And congressman -- surprised that Rick Santorum didn't pledge that he led.

I support Mitt Romney on the campaign trail and Begin campaigning -- I just heard about this I didn't hear what he said in Gettysburg but my guess is he's probably talking about his own campaign and that he'll have plenty of time later on for supporting and railing around the nominee but right now I think -- -- the statesman like thing he should be proud of the campaign.

We're praying for his daughter we -- -- I'm doing that.

And -- and I think.

Rick it it has -- -- today and I think he didn't want -- probably my guess is he just wanna talk about his own family's own campaign they'll be plenty of time for -- around our nominee.

I congressman thank you so much.
