What about wanna talk about this new book that's out heroes for my daughter's a beautiful picture on the front of the little -- And Brad Meltzer is the author and he joins us now and and Brad thanks for being -- Where does this book come from.
But thanks Greg you know came six years ago on the -- my daughter was born so don't write a book that -- -- whole life.
And -- -- with advice for her to be a strong woman.
And I'd done something similar for -- my son in a book called -- my son -- for two years now my daughter's been saying well where's my book dad where's mine.
So I've had to work on that and I started by look at it -- -- like Sally ride.
And people -- Sally ride is the first American female astronaut in space of why they pick her.
What is it because she was a physics genius as they say she was -- -- is great athlete.
All those things are true but here's what's also true -- -- to answer and and her college newspaper check to see an opportunity and seize it.
And I wanna my daughter to learn that -- -- said that's the book I wanna write.
Not a book of rules but a look at heroes from Rosa Parks to Winston Churchill to -- air heart and just -- with the best heroes I can find for my daughter.
You mentioned Winston Churchill Abe Lincoln.
Rosa Parks and nearly air heart off I'm going through the list here.
Of the stories contained within and you know here's some pictures of folks I just mentioned.
And it's really when it's it's a long list of very very incredible people and you have such an amazing cross section mean you know yet Dolly Parton.
We had Dolly Parton it's a perfect example I mean I what I love about Dolly Parton is.
You know when you look at Dolly Parton should grow up in the foothills of Tennessee in -- tiny one room shack in human have in -- indoor plumbing.
She bought the land without Shaq wasn't and listen -- points so successful now she can build whatever she -- -- foundation actually helped with the book they're so kind to us.
And you know what they built on that at little plot of land she built another similarly sized little shack it has indoor plumbing -- of amenities.
But when she wants to relax and right she goes -- there and it's one of the great lessons for my daughter.
Never forget when you come from that's one of the great lessons of Dolly Parton that's a hero for my daughter Vietnam now I notice -- Terry Meltzer.
Corey Flynn Meltzer.
Now you -- my my personal heroes my mom in my life.
One you gotta put your wife in the book Russia kill -- but that happens my favorite here my favorite -- and there is my mom my mom.
I die from breast cancer for years ago and before she died.
When my second book was coming out and the publisher was shutting down I was worried I was watching my career deteriorate in front -- my eyes.
And I called my mom and told how scared I wasn't said to me I'd love you if you were garbage man.
And it wasn't having she practice she didn't it wasn't a crack on garbage amount who was a garbage man -- -- say whatever you are way to president -- title I love you.
And to this day every day sit down to -- I see those words to myself I'd love you pure garbage man just thinking of my mom but for you the best -- in the book is on the last page.
Because the last page is blank.
And it says your heroes photo here and -- here -- store -- and I promise you.
-- take a picture of your mom or your grandmother or military member your family and you write one sentence.
Of what they mean to you that's the most beautiful page in heroes for my daughter.
You know -- My wife doesn't understand why I adore Moe Larry and -- And because I've got I've got all talk a large collection of you know some of their films in the shorts that they did and so forth.
And my wife says The Three Stooges but my goodness page 54.
You've got The Three Stooges in here.
I love you Graham we're gonna get -- I mean where where Brothers from another mother I'll tell -- my wife hates The Three Stooges hates them I showed her that during World War II.
Hollywood -- was told don't do any propaganda films don't -- any movies about Hitler because it's gonna be treated as propaganda but I -- to start a world war here.
So everyone pretty much -- by that except for three guys -- Mo Larry curly and they made the very first parity of Adolf Hitler on film.
It wasn't Charlie Chaplin was The Three Stooges -- three Jewish guys who wanted to stand up to the bully.
And I want my daughter to learn to fight you know we first -- the book my editors say use one word over and over fighter.
You keep using -- -- fighter but I want my daughter to learn how to fight I want her when she sees something to fight for it.
And when she sees injustice fight harder than she's ever fought before and to me.
That's the -- -- I teller don't be a princess waiting for the prince to come save you you can save yourself.
And I -- with anything that's what -- -- my -- stands for and here's another fellow who who became a real Superman.
In real life Christopher Reeve I had a great opportunity to interview him.
Before he died too short time before he died.
-- an inspiration he was what you're you know Christopher Reeve he had his the first male hero was in the book and he's there for a reason is one of my personal heroes of all time.
And I always say Christopher Reeve was told he'd never move again.
Nothing would move and he got sensation all around his body and what I love is people think he's a Superman -- he played Superman he's a Superman because of what he did after the accident.
He went on Sesame Street any talk kids and it's OK to be someone who's disable -- showed how the wheelchair work.
And to me what the best parts he reminded us as the most important part of the story isn't Superman most important part of the stories Clark Kent you wanna why because -- all Clark Kent.
We all know what it's like be boring and ordinary which we give -- something beyond ourselves and that's what he's hearing me.
Normal vulnerable build justice fragile is the -- this thankfully he never let that stop him it's quite.
Quite a story Brad Meltzer in the name of the book -- heroes for my daughter thank you so much for being with us best of luck to you.
Thank you Greg really appreciate -- liked a -- -- it's half half these especially The Three Stooges.
Made you so much.
