Well there's a new study out this week raising questions about whether those X rays we all get that have been content becomes so common at the dentist.
May lead to brain tumors.
The study comes out of Yale university and points out that the routine exams are the single most common source of radiation for healthy people in the US.
But does that mean you should not get them.
Joining me now doctor -- A member of our Fox News medical eighteen and big week over at NYU lingo medical -- That your official but I -- with the okay.
We've all had these there's so I'm comfortable posting dig into your -- the dentist says they're necessary.
They're causing brain -- us.
Well not so fast actually this is the biggest study of its kind we already know that this kind of radiation I agonizing radiation.
Can cause brain -- we know that from atomic bombs actually.
And we know we're from radiation we get for thyroid cancer and things like that but the question is that does this amount of radiation that you get from a dental X -- cause.
This kind of a brain tumor another kind of brain -- we're talking about Megan is the lining of the brain called -- an Ngo and it's mostly benign.
How closely now my -- and -- did play and that.
-- of -- but it's in the brain can -- him very concerned about it is even of -- benign it can cause a big big problem.
So they survey 14100 people and they asked them how many got -- lectures have you had and they found.
That any group that said they have had a focus dental X -- at any time in their life.
Had twice as much of -- chance of developing this very common kind of brain tumor.
-- -- -- -- -- -- Well there's a couple of problems it doesn't convince me because the amount of radiation we're seeing now is much less than the people who were serving.
In other words less and less and less would -- Islands can't talk to somebody who whose 65 years old right now when they got the X rays of radiation was higher.
Much higher right now to give you an example we're getting about two or three milligrams per -- -- the amount you get the entire year from walking around this set.
Well maybe maybe a little more on the set is about why 320 client -- the cameras and that and the and they were the radiation equipment we have.
-- -- But you Lou I told you -- I didn't wanna put the Mike pack up my back I -- it'd take -- back as it does I didn't care.
I'm not going with a Geiger counter around here.
But seriously the amount we get just walking around on a cross country plane flight is about the same you get them at their electric.
So I don't know -- people out there I don't want to tell our viewers to not going to -- So you should still get an annual -- -- -- Annual Benelux -- you know what this is a reminder.
Get -- when you need to save your -- joining that I.
You can't do it really -- -- -- and need this to help me.
Because I wanna say yes if it's a money maker for that well I'm sorry dad says about -- that I really don't like I don't like -- whole idea of defensive medicine so.
I don't want these done unnecessarily this is a reminder that too much exposure to radiation is no good for you and over time it could increase your risk.
Sounds like for people like that's you know our goose is cooked when we got the X -- when they weren't loaded with all that bad stuff and now -- had -- to live with it or not I'm older than humans.
I could I got more radiation than -- -- I'll say a prayer thank you doctor -- it's very.
Mean it's good it's gonna be benign.
