Thanks so it is a Bill O'Reilly in the week days of -- segment tonight let's go right to the purveyor Bernard Goldberg dot com at joins stuff Miami.
City you -- -- me that Mike Wallace is -- best TV interviewer ever.
Are we -- including Jesse waters -- that question.
You know you believe guess he's all all right I was only seventeen years old all right overcome I know he's doing pretty well.
Yes I do -- I do agree with you and it's not only about the journalism even though Mike was a very very good journalist.
And even though that's a very big part of it.
Mike understood the medium in which he worked -- not supposed to say this out -- appear in television.
But Mike understood that there was a lot of show business in television news.
And he was a great performer he was able to move seamlessly.
From putting on a velvet glove.
To putting -- brass knuckles best example of that he's interviewing the Ayatollah Khomeini.
And he says.
Your holiness.
This isn't me I am not saying please please understand.
This is it I'm not saying that's that's the velvet glove and then wham he says but president -- says you're a lunatic.
Now.
Now that's great journalism great television.
And it's memorable and as far as the -- -- did with you if you have to take a wild guess in advance.
That of mainstream.
News organization is going to do a piece about.
Bill O'Reilly of Fox News you figure they might hammering it they might go -- -- Mike Mike was just bear.
He was fair and and I thought the PC did with you was there and I think you did you.
Yeah I did I mean I Don Hewitt and Mike Wallace and and Peter Jennings early on all three of them figured out we do -- here.
I -- figured out there were taken a Sunday morning concept.
Bringing into prime time a lot of opinion and a lot of confrontation.
Lot of showbiz no doubt the factor lot of -- okay.
And we're doing it for a good purpose -- we're doing it to bring.
Honest information is no subterfuge either agree with -- -- -- We -- it right out there and those three guys they respected that and that's why got a fair caught on sixty minutes it and bring in the ideological hammer but to be.
Truthful right.
Mike Wallace was a liberal man but I never.
Her song that in his right exactly did you eggs no that's a that's a very good point.
I don't think Mike ever understood.
The concept of liberal bias in the news because he would say.
What are you talking about Ronald Reagan was elected twice George Bush was elected that all the Republicans were elected.
But that wasn't.
The the essence of liberal bias.
Because the American people aren't zombies that automatically.
Follow what the liberal media says but he was absolutely fair.
And and even if he didn't get the concept of liberal bias it didn't matter because it didn't it didn't apply to him.
He can I just told you quick story he paid me a very high compliment -- I could do this very quickly.
Is okay gesture.
Up.
I got I was I was at CBS when they had somebody -- the five words you never -- to hear.
You never want to hear this especially if you're CEO of a big American company you don't want to hear.
Mike Wallace on line one.
You don't wanna hear those words some going what the heck is this about so I pick up the phone I say hey Mike what's up.
And you complete this if you -- he says he doesn't say hello he doesn't say how are you he says you son of a bitch.
So I start laughing.
So let and I said.
Because.
And he says you did a story last night that was really really good and I wanted to do it you beat me to it that's one of the highest compliments I've ever been paid.
And Mike and you have to do that obviously are right now -- he read that was very nice of them I wanna run in a Barbara Walters sound -- from the view go up.
There are journalists well let I'll bring this is how opinion that it can be right -- But I don't know I don't honestly know what I -- I -- -- -- -- again I'm like no guarantee national.
But -- Latin most of us do not you don't know whether they're Republicans -- Democrats side.
Exhibition this stuff whatever you rare you often hear differently slid an antidepressant we -- All right so Barbara thanks and our uncle -- I don't know.
Okay bill I I know you like -- -- all become this woman is clueless -- that flies bit.
I know that that was my kinder.
Look but first I'll -- it just two very quick examples.
Back when Clinton was president.
A very reputable organization did a poll of Washington journalists.
89%.
Voted for Bill Clinton.
89%.
7%.
Voted for George Bush.
Now in a democracy.
Nobody gets 89% of the vote that 89% -- what Fidel Castro and Saddam Hussein used to get but.
Washington journalists 89% of them voted for Bill Clinton okay that's one thing.
Cut fast forward to the last election in my book a slobbering love affair.
Even liberal journalist acknowledge the obvious that the media was rooting for Barack Obama so Barbara we -- know if reporters aren't aren't Republicans -- Democrats.
They're overwhelming -- -- -- Democrat they're overwhelmingly liberal.
And if you don't have to take my word they tell you that every time they go on the air very all right everybody got it.
