Now it looks like we have a Republican nominee or will laughter the convention and right now that means the race for the White House is in full swing unless we get a big surprise.

It will be President Obama vs Mitt Romney.

The question now is what kind of general election campaign are we going to see.

So this is just par for the course -- -- talking about who's more negative than the other.

That there folks who go negative we'll say we're just pointing out differences in the folks who are on the receiving and -- say they're going negative -- It's just something that we have to get used to over the next six months.

Is that it could chip -- of the most negative presidential campaign ever does it look that way to use it shaping up that what.

Yeah I know this is gonna shock USA of course it's going to be I mean it is gonna be the president's gonna have a billion dollars.

The Romney campaign is gonna have close to that you've got super pacs for the first time in any of these presidential -- history of the fact is you're gonna see more money -- Probably on this presidential campaign and all the other presidential campaigns combined.

It's going to be mean it's going to be nasty it's going to be aggressive and this is going to be a long hot summer for.

The folks in these swing states chip and you know we mentioned you worked for the.

Huckabee campaign Governor Huckabee is a likable guy he's a minister I I don't see -- presidential campaign that would have involved Mike Huckabee.

Throwing all of Alton all of his name calling around is it is it required of presidential politics.

-- Well I think it's a lot of elbows and even though Governor Huckabee is a minister it is a great -- one of my favorite people.

That the he's been at some tough campaigns and sometimes what's other people see you say is negative you say -- contrast you've got to get the facts out -- they disagree with you.

Campaigns tend to -- a very negative coach -- negative tone very quickly you look at our Republican primary that.

For the most part just finished up it was a very rough three or four months and that was in our own family.

And so when we go against Obama I would say it's going to be ratcheted up.

On both sides Peter for instance in in -- -- Carl rose piece he's talking about the president warning.

That if he Republican cuts were to be spread evenly across the budget alzheimer's and cancer and -- dangerous search would be -- Ten million college students denied assistance that kind of thing.

But it's a false premise they're not talking about spreading the cuts across the budget they're talking about going after individual programs that don't work.

How does the president get away talking like that.

Well John really all depends on how you look at them and -- you know as as chip pointed out that you can.

You can compare and you can you can aggregate different aspects of tax cuts and and that tax increases -- mean.

You know how Washington works from and there are different ways you can portray it and the president's side is gonna portrayed a certain way and they you know they're gonna have the facts supported -- Romney's folks are going to push back so there's a lot to pick and choose from.

I would agree with chips analysis frankly about how this race is going to turn out and in the swing states it's gonna come down to three constituencies women.

Independence and then the wild card is can Romney rally the conservative base.

Which has been very suspicious of him all through the primary process is there -- -- the selections gonna go is there a difference.

Have rules though for the president's campaign I mean does he run the risk of demeaning the office he holds by going too negative Peter you for.

I don't think so John I mean we we've we've seen this happen again again I go to the 2004 race and that was a very negative race and very negative campaign.

One against John Kerry by Karl Rove and the bush reelection team it just goes with the territory I don't think the Kerry campaign frankly.
