Thanks -- let's talk a little politics now with our guess Marion marsh who joins us from Boston and James Pinkerton -- was here in studio we're talking of course about what's happening regarding the Hilary Rosen comments about.
And Romney.
And Marianne Morris the latest is that she is not -- Hilary Rosen is think she is not going on Meet the Press she had planned to go on that show and at least.
Addressed this what does it tell you about.
How this has played out in the national media that she is not now going on -- Sunday talk show at least to address that and take it -- all.
Well I think people want this to be over at this point so if you're Hilary Rosen the White House.
Or the Obama campaign that is a signal that you would like this to be over.
-- no doubt through the rest this campaign will be talking about the war on women.
But this is not the fight the time of the terms of the Obama campaign wishes to wage that so that's what that says to me.
James is it anywhere near being over -- regardless of what she wants regardless of whether she does not go on a program on Sunday is this thing even.
And year over.
You know because it any controversies.
Depends on the basic reality of the issue at hand and there is a split in America between women working women.
The role women motherhood and so on.
And this.
Fault line between say Hilary Rosen and Romney -- -- And you know -- a week ago the White House is more than happy to talk about the war on women and the Republican war -- women now that.
I -- the Republicans are more than happy to talk about Hilary Rosen and it and by extension.
The Obama White House in the democratic nationally as -- and when I will say.
That the Obama administration started -- -- president is doing good damage control.
They're having -- president get on TV denouncing here is is this is tough stuff inside the Democratic Party just don't want to take Ghana.
You know powerful constituency group like this -- -- -- you know unless you really feel you have to do to -- swing voters -- practices I think -- said it.
-- like it or not this will be a big issue the next seven months.
-- -- it was clear early on it was the spot as she was the DNC spokesperson there -- no relation there between the DNC and Hilary Rosen the president.
James -- spoken out against this it was David Axelrod.
But hasn't changed the conversation is it as Nicole Wallace said a win win for Republicans and changing the conversation.
Not -- I disagree with James I mean I don't think this this particular part of the debate is going to be.
Going nine com.
Summer let alone September or October -- early November.
I think there will be a large discussion about women because for the following reason the simple fact is women are the majority of voters in this country number one -- -- the majority of independent voters in this country so there is a debate in if you are Mitt Romney and you look at these polls -- you have this yawning gap.
Between Obama and Romney that runs anywhere from twelve to 1820 points.
What Obama ahead with women.
You're Mitt Romney -- need to find a toehold to try to win some of them back with the opportunities over Romney campaign -- was with Hillary's.
Comments and I've known her a long time I understand what she tried to say she just didn't do it well.
Is that.
It's that that they -- opportunity to change the debate.
And now they did now I would point Ed Gillespie and -- asked to be him because prior to this.
The Romney campaign was not able to act in this fashion so they look like they've changed one to the other benefits to them -- They got base Republicans to rally around Romney who were wild about him before.
So I I think that was a benefit but do I think that Mitt Romney was able in the next few -- that will look at -- to see any gargantuan -- there now.
But it went -- a race where everyone thinks this is -- to be decided by a couple of points you've got to try to cherry pick.
Women Latinos and others the constituency groups that Mitt Romney has a big.
Problem went right now James we don't hear a whole lot about the flip side of this -- which is there is a gender gap on the other side.
Where is Obama trails with man specifically older -- specifically college educated and wealthy man but.
Mitt Romney have to tackle this will this comment help -- enough for how does Mitt Romney.
Pursue the woman vote and an and is an Romney enough if she's out there on the campaign trail -- Right and any if it is one for the fox poll has Obama and -- had 4644.
So there's a gender gap.
Look at whatever dimension.
Women supporting Obama supported that police the men gender gap the other way has to be you know that much larger now.
Again and lot of -- -- be you know -- that I think the real clear politics average still has you know Romney down so we can.
No they look to you the Romney campaign will not be able to run on this issue for suddenly no doubt about it that the point I was getting -- originally -- was.
This is such a huge issue.
And and it does speak to so many people so many different ways.
That it will keep coming up.
It won't mean that we we won't be talking about Hilary Rosen seven months and -- -- some people will but but but we -- seven days it is seven days somebody else will say something pro or con who knows -- for example the president now.
I was on Daschle's last night trashing -- and running again.
Down but what are you -- after awhile and then somebody else will say something if somebody else's there's a thing it it looked.
But this is the topic that people care.
That gets their emotions going.
A world of talk radio Talking Heads so -- display this will keep feeding itself.
Through Election Day -- I'm curious.
Because you had seen Romney and and a different light because of locally you've seen him run on and so many elections have historically.
Have you seen him have.
Struggle with women voters and has -- Romney at least from a Massachusetts standpoint has she been able to soften that image over the years.
Well is it to -- his inner Romney is more farmer visible now in this presidential campaign and she was in the previous one or any of the Massachusetts -- -- yeah so I find that fascinating.
-- he always struggled with women Republicans always do here.
But they've managed to not his first race against Ted Kennedy the second race where he would did win the governor's race the only race he's one.
He was able to get enough independent women to win but he did it by running as a very moderate at the very progressive.
Republican who went after the name -- in Dorismond an almost got it almost got the -- women's political caucus endorsement those kinds of things.
But I think the benefit today and I think this is a very important point.
Today's Friday the thirteenth you -- Mitt Romney what would you rather be talking about -- of the tortured relationship with a gun control at the NRA.
These sixth anniversary of Health Care Reform in Massachusetts which was the plagiarized version of everything that happened.
For Health Care Reform nationally or would you rather have the continuation of the debate we've had the last 24 hours.
You want this debate today -- everyone else ignores the other two things that's the benefit James I would want it to.
