Well right now the news media is finding itself in the spotlight over coverage in the deadly shooting of -- -- Martin and Florida the National Rifle Association.

Taking aim at the media's coverage of the case calling it sensational.

What the media.

They don't care.

Every day victims.

Aren't celebrities.

They don't draw ratings.

Don't -- sponsors.

-- this nation reporting from Florida does.

Jim Pinkerton is a contributing editor and writer for the American conservative magazine.

Alan Colmes is host of the Alan Colmes radio show gentlemen good to see my vote.

-- Jim let me start with -- is Wayne -- -- is the media focusing too much on this one case at the expense of crimes that are taking place all over the country every day.

Well I mean just your perspective I -- trade on the -- the war one word trick on this morning 28000.

Hits on Google which I suspect.

Is more hits than every other murder this year combined they're probably been about 4000 so far this in in calendar year 2012.

So I guess if you had to look up.

Media sensationalism.

In a dictionary you'd find.

One murder getting you know about a 100000 times more coverage than all the other murders I guess I would count as media sensationalism.

Allan why why is this story getting well much attention when there are so many awful stories every day.

We could say that about any story the Natalee Holloway story for example a few years ago when -- that gets so much attention.

Sometimes one particular story resonates it is emblematic.

And many other similar incidents but let's face it.

What happened is sensational effect just the media making it sensational.

One young man with -- and -- With another captain watch captain is not -- of a -- has a gun.

The young man that shot and killed that's a sensational.

Story.

So it's not like the media forced it to be sensational make the sensational it is a sensational circumstance that happened.

Jim I think that the frustration on the part of gun rights activists around the country is that they -- -- the kind of attention.

That's heaped on a story like this when a gun is used in a tragic case in someone's.

Life has been lost.

But they feel like they never turn on the news and see stories.

Where firearms are used to protector to save an innocent life the -- like are they correct to have that frustration.

I think absolutely records -- -- -- reasonably Obama case in Oklahoma of the woman who just lost her husband who protected herself -- her own home with a gun and that that got some attention you know.

However I think that that what gun owners are not only aware.

That the media and the laughter gonna try and use this -- to -- to bulldoze those stand your ground laws.

There's also a bigger and -- -- more media injustice being perpetrated I think it's the indictment.

Is Zimmerman.

And my source -- this is Alan Dershowitz who said who called the indictment and and attack the special prosecutor ms.

-- as good as what.

Unethical and irresponsible.

For.

He is innocent it would Dershowitz is saying he's a Democrat.

-- is -- -- of media have stampeded this.

Prosecutor in the indicting Zimmerman just stick to get.

You know the protesters offer offer back and I think that's a terrible -- by the way we'll have bad consequences.

If if -- an unsound indictment and as Jeremy gets acquitted.

I'll work work a lot more trouble in terms of you know unrest if bird acquittals -- the lack of an arrest.

-- what are you and -- -- rookie out of the mainstream media in general when it covers gun issues.

-- and a lot of times he is a story like this happens.

Or similar type of story and and I'm right out of the gate.

If you see on the news people calling for stricter gun laws and it is that.

Laziness on the part of I don't by the raising of the phone and get somebody to give you -- like that in a matter second.

I don't -- the phrase mainstream media that's change this is the mainstream media the Internet now.

The mainstream media and I don't put a lot of stock -- the NRA Wayne -- is there gets up -- -- NRA -- -- -- get over the weekend it says you -- the bombings -- take your guns away and he's infringe on gun -- -- something he's never ever done it -- gun -- have expanded under President Obama you can -- carry -- carry guns in -- I mean so I don't put a lot of stock they've got an agenda their -- to raise money and do away with all gun -- so they're -- the people -- go to can play information about a fair and balanced -- of -- all right well fair and balanced debate with the two of you gentlemen thanks very -- Allen and -- Good to see you as always thank you.
