Taking off from Cape Canaveral on its way to its new home in the Smithsonian joining us -- -- -- from Cape Canaveral.

Phil Keating he witnessed the historic final flight in first and good morning -- Good morning discovery flying 39 missions into space now has left Florida airspace for good.

It's about ninety minutes away from answering the airspace around Washington DC.

Quite melancholy for you a bit sad that bittersweet walk.

Well I yeah I didn't think I was actually react this morning when the discovery took off and I was really surprised.

Since lifted -- off the ground knowing that she's going -- to DC and not coming back it was it was sad.

It is sad for a couple of reasons you know this -- see a space shuttle programs over.

I had the privilege of being part of a huge space shuttle team across the country that you know flew the vehicle for thirty years through through a lot of triumph -- -- tragedy as well.

On the and so CNET -- -- -- -- from you represented the end of the program and so and knowing that this great team of folks cross country has worked on this vehicle for so many years was.

Coming to an end and I probably never seen anything like it again.

-- -- young children and families in the DC area and soon in new York and LA and then here of course the Kennedy Space Center.

Who have opportunities of these museums to see the shuttles up close and personal what do you think's gonna be the most fulfilling thrill for them.

Well I'm I'm hopeful obviously see in the vehicles themselves will be a thrill but I'm hopeful that -- each museum.

They've they've represented vehicles not just as vehicles themselves -- is as the team that I mentioned earlier because there's really a team of people across country that did this and some hope that they get a C discovery through our -- not just through the astronauts size and how what it was like to fly the vehicles.

But also through the through the folks that worked on the vehicle -- Kennedy Space Center.

The engineers to support crews on the ground -- mission control folks did the operations in space and -- open.

That each place represents the entire process what the shuttle was.

Thank you very much commander great job over the years.

And of course -- replacement for the shuttle does for the shuttle program is going to be -- Orion and NASA announced yesterday they're hoping to have its first test flight.

In the year 24 teams so that's looking -- but more immediately.

In the DC area right between the hour of butt ten and 1030 if you go outside for -- -- break.

You might have the opportunity -- a very low altitude flyover of the discovery on top of that 747.

As a flies over the National Mall the national harbor and makes its way to Dulles airport and then a big four day weekend planned out there at.

Dulles airport at the Smithsonian center there as.

The public will now have an opportunity to see a space shuttle that -- -- space -- 39 times.
