And -- story this morning the White House has basically laid down an ultimatum.
To House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan they have warned him that he needs to change his budget bill.
Or else and that's I was trying to bring -- new Arab America's Newsroom good morning everybody big hour coming up for you with that the top and then -- like -- -- Anxious to see the interview with Paul Ryan I'm Gregg Jarrett in for Bill Hemmer the Obama administration is really throwing down the gauntlet here in the high stakes battle saying that.
President Obama will not sign any bills that break the terms of their summer debt deal.
So I spoke with congressman -- Paul Ryan just a little while now and got his reaction to that from the White House.
So Iraq I -- this morning House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan.
Who is joining us now good morning good -- here congressman Ryan.
Morning on iTunes and I'm doing just great act -- reason -- they came out to have from the White House yesterday which day is a response really to.
Your budget proposal and here's -- here's without letter.
To the House of Representatives and senate leaders that -- until the House of Representatives indicates that it will abide by last summer's agreement.
The president will not be able to sign any.
So that's pretty much lays it out there what's your reaction to that.
What were simply trying to do is get spending under control.
The budget control act -- a ceiling on spending and we -- ago about nineteen billion dollars below that ceiling.
We're not gonna have a government shut down what woke will get ourselves to compromise of the reasonable levels of spending.
But here's the deal -- -- we can't keep spending all this money we don't half we're borrowing forty cents on the dollar.
And more trying to show here in Washington is a little fiscal prudence and discipline.
Unfortunately the president is more -- playing politics with that than anything -- -- -- that's really what this is.
I understand that but they're gonna say that -- deal that was made to raise the debt ceiling and it had at those subsequent.
Sequestration and parts of that build day and that if they didn't meet that deal that everybody -- -- not.
Then certain cuts would -- in naturally.
They're saying that -- presenting the budget that you presented is now they're gonna call that obstructionist because you weren't willing to go along with Padilla struck before.
No not only are we going -- -- the deal that was struck before were showing how we would replace the sequestered from occurring by cutting spending elsewhere in a Smart way.
It's -- -- just -- accrued across the board way which will happen in January if we do nothing.
Now we have to me that the problem is the president's not showing what he would do.
To prevent this across the board cut from happening this -- again yesterday they're not gonna do a budget again for the third year in a row.
So we're showing leadership on how we -- specifically prioritize spending in order to meet this deal.
In order to conform to the budget control act and doing a Smart ways and -- crude across the board way or just ignoring it which is what we think the White House is doing.
They're not preparing for the sequester the pretending it doesn't exist it does exist it will happen.
And we think we should be honest the people about that and show how we will prioritize spending cuts -- -- of letting the sequestered.
Cut across the board that's exactly what our budget does that we're doing right now.
So the president was speaking about this and Leary Ohio yesterday and of course all of this gets intertwined with election year politics as well as you well -- let's listen he's in the you know basically and we -- the Republican way and it didn't work here's what he said.
Instead of monitoring their views even slightly.
You -- have Republicans in Washington the ones running for president.
That shower the wealthiest Americans -- even more tax cuts folks like -- don't need it we're looking for.
I think the president doesn't have a record he can run on.
He's -- hard to the left in his last two years he didn't moderate didn't compromise.
And -- is no choice but to divide the country in order to distract the country and unfortunately it's very -- presidential but that's what we're seeing.
We're saying take away the tax havens and loopholes that wealthy people used in order lower everybody's tax rates guess what.
Lot of Democrats agree with us Erskine Bowles in the fiscal commission -- what they propose to get the economy growing.
So what we're showing in our budget is is the season a bipartisan compromise and how to best fix these problems.
Problem is it's with moderate Democrats the president's not a moderate Democrat he's way out there in the left.
Playing partisan politics trying to shift blame offers on failed policies I think that's just what more of this kind of campaign -- -- you have -- -- -- -- -- six months of this type that.
-- he's not the only one -- upset with your plan -- Catholic bishops conference has also come out.
And said that they don't like what the plan entails when it comes to cutting food stamps.
And also a child credit for illegal immigrants.
-- -- -- Well we've always said we should not be giving up.
Tax credits to people who are not here illegally.
That's that's that's is following through on policy that's been pretty well responded to a bipartisan basis.
These are not all the Catholic bishops -- -- we just respectfully disagree.
We think that -- drew things spending in this area has not succeeded to get people out of poverty.
We won in six people -- are in poverty today poverty is at the highest -- has been in the generation under the president's failed policies.
It's -- -- trying to do here is get people from welfare to work.
Just like we succeeded in doing when we reformed cash welfare 1996.
We want to take those ideas and reform these other welfare programs so we don't keep people on welfare but we get people from welfare to work.
Into an opera mobile society opportunity prosperity getting people out of poverty that's what we're focusing on our budget attack the root causes of poverty to break -- cycle.
Instead of simply treating its symptoms and it easier to cope with.
And that's what we fear the president's policies have done and that the the results are with the highest poverty rates we've had in a generation.
You know at I want it obviously listen before all of this becomes in this season intertwined with that 2012 presidential politics and and last night a special report.
-- Houston powers had this to say about your alignment.
On the campaign trail.
And with your budget plan with Mitt Romney hears -- she's had.
In terms of the stark choice yes -- Democrats are really.
Salivating frankly at the opportunity to go up against the Paul Ryan plan.
I think that they see a lot of fertile ground her for them to go after.
-- feel about the fact that your name may be associated with some of the attacks coming from the left against the candidate of your party.
I'm trying to get used to be because of the Martha.
Look we think we -- the country of choice if we have a debt crisis in this nation which the president is bringing us to this and it's not even budgeting for three years.
The people who get hurt the first in the worst of the people -- government the most the poor the sick the elderly.
We -- -- prevent a debt crisis we want to get back -- job creation economic growth and prosperity.
That's what our budget dies and so look we're we want this debate because we think the country should decide.
What do you want America to be what kind of people do you want us to be he -- on this path the president's takings down debt in decline.
Forty wanna get our spending and deficits and debt under control.
Get our economy going again and stop this growth of government where government sees its role is picking winners and losers in our society that's not the American idea we want to restore the American idea.
Get those principles and it is exceptional the first place re applied to the problems of the day.
And yes it is a choice of two futures in Mitt Romney is very clearly giving the country that choice do you want president Obama's government centered society.
Forty want the opportunity society with a safety net that works.
That's the choice here and we're happy to have this debate.
-- many an occasion -- the running camp that they want to do anything other than embrace this plan continue to have you out on the campaign trail with them right next in -- Look what I've campaign would make a lot we we've done a lot of Wisconsin we're still -- working together and yes he's put out through his primary campaign.
Tax reforms and budget reforms that clearly resemble what we're trying to do because I got anti -- -- If you believe in free enterprise and limited government upward mobility then you'll have a budget that looks like this.
We can't keep borrowing and spending and taxing like we aren't it will ruin the economy and everybody will get hurt if that happens -- -- put aside all the hysterical rhetoric.
Put aside all the name Collins the president is doing in a very own presidential way.
The country has got a chance here window to prevent a debt crisis and we need to take advantage of that car Ryan always a pleasure having here in America's isn't it thank you very much -- -- -- there.
