I went dead people -- in the state of South Carolina that.

And that was South Carolina governor Nikki Haley a Republican.

Talking to Fox News in the sneak peek of an upcoming special that we've got running about voter fraud in the country as she defends.

Her State's very aggressive voter identification law that is -- issue with the Obama Justice Department and this is power play.

An Internet let me tell yet.

There may be no bigger sleeper issue want to know better -- watch this year in terms.

An undercurrent for the 2012 presidential election -- this battle over voter identification it's -- coast to coast it's in the -- it's headed to the Supreme -- it's going to be a big deal so you should know more about it so let's learn more about it so -- that's what we do for you and that we -- Smart people and then they come and tell -- things that's what we're here for that and apparently the Internet -- the fact that -- excellent -- OK so you know and are very fond of Tony Welch Internet he's the former spokesman for the Democratic National Committee he is a democratic strategist.

PDD.

And Tom -- welcome back Tom Dupree he's former official inside the -- bush Justice Department he is a hello lawyer big shout -- lawyer here in Washington.

For the firm of Gibson had done.

Gentlemen welcome thank you thanks Chris.

All right now I promise I promise mr.

wells -- we would not ask any legal questions and so we would ask you do to do this argument Thomas much you -- with one half of your brain tied behind.

Abstruse legal construct -- because violent faces but I don't think there should be any limitations -- all -- -- -- you should make the case that the strongest began discussing a fair.

I didn't think okay.

But -- but let's start with you Tom these laws.

You've got -- South Carolina Arizona.

All over the country Republican legislatures have put through some pretty tough voter identification laws and voter registration laws.

Just to set the seaports where is this battle -- is -- going to the Supreme Court before the election.

Well as possible although I think it would have to be pretty fast track to get out there I think what we're gonna see now.

Now in the immediate future at least as a lot of battling the federal trial courts of course is an ongoing challenge right now.

In South Carolina where the Justice Department is committed basically -- South Carolina you can't have this law that's aimed at preventing voter fraud.

So.

Now and so -- Tony from the from the Republican telling of it it's like well who wouldn't want.

Fair elections who wouldn't want to suppress voter fraud.

There is the counter argument from the holder Justice Department.

And others is that you disenfranchise.

The least among us -- -- -- they have -- usually be democratic voter.

-- you disenfranchise the least -- -- and that's the worry there's one big question asked is why did this happen why did thirty legislatures take up voter.

ID issues or other -- limitation -- limitations in 2011 why did that happen because Republicans want let's just make America.

Both one of the reasons but it wasn't into it wasn't it was an answer and into a problem that didn't exist.

Would that you have the more likelihood is that you would be struck by lightning than there than there is -- commit voter fraud doesn't happen at that.

Greater rate and the problems solving it.

It's kind of like the doctor giving you CPR because you gotta Paper cut.

It's way -- way -- cases what the problem is and the worry then is that if you're requiring people to now have an -- well.

Parents are a driver's license.

Guys -- like very pleasant people certainly 59 years old who stopped driving along time ago what barriers do you want to create for them to vote and in in many of these cases many bears the various key and unfortunately it will depress voting.

That's not good that that's not thriving democracy aside from the legal issues which I think there are obviously pertinent here but that's the result and that's what -- -- -- that a democratic argument is in -- lawyer election and I have to -- for a second the democratic argument has.

That it essentially constitutes poll tax as you saw in the Jim Crow south.

Where it cost money to have identification it cost money to have a driver's license you -- have -- driver's license you can just have a state issued ID.

But didn't even if that's -- nominal -- even if it's fifteen or twenty dollars or the effort of going to the DMV.

That that constitutes a bolt that.

Yeah I'm not quite sure I buy them.

That argument on South Carolina like a lot of -- -- have these kinds of laws allow you present all sorts of forms of ID some might be a little difficult to get such as driver's license others not is difficult to get.

I think one other thing it's important to keep in mind is it's not as though people are going to the polls and when he can't produce identification they're turned away.

Rather in most states will happen is they'll allow these people to cast a provisional ballot which will be stored and then -- After the fact the election officials can go back and try to ascertain whether or not that person was a legitimate voter so I think this notion that they're somehow hundreds or thousands of good -- legitimate voters were turning up the -- is getting turned away in their votes are not counting they got overstates the situation and it.

Tell -- this is subject I noticed just exploded our chat people love to talk about this.

So.

This 300 million voters who want to vote on their cell phones without being harassed by the kkk or the black Panthers.

With PR 24 standing in front of the Kris thanks.

So this is a person called king of politics I think is calling for.

Mobile phone voting for remote voting.

It's Thursday I do not have the energy to wade into that -- -- politics.

Hillary says we finally get to vote on -- -- in Minnesota it's on the ballot November and I can't wait to vote for it.

And it about respond to this from LG 1631 says this.

Yes we need ideas for people to vote you need -- I need to work drink and by medications want to -- there's some there's there's something else going on at first you.

You're putting a barrier you know in place someone voted and there are many ideas that work before now they're saying only driver's licenses you might expect a -- -- -- -- -- we'll have a problem with that there's a woman who was denied aid -- voting card because she couldn't produce her marriage license.

Be in the -- commuter marriage licenses that heard.

Hurt and the last thing that came from those on her birth certificate there were all these barriers and also there's one other thing that kind of -- -- -- is what's really going on here and that's in Texas.

Tom -- and write what you can use other forms of ID when Texas.

Your gun license yet.

That'll work that's cool you're -- ninety.

Will not not cool not not even from a state school.

Not know.

So a state issue driver's license in Texas didn't work I -- that you are hard core I.

I mean I laid -- what taxes what taxes -- was after what they were saying young people who turned out you could credibly for Barack Obama Republicans we're gonna say that's a look -- interest than depressing and that's what they're doing.

Okay now Tom on on this subject.

Are Republican and Democrats have been in store when voter fraud has occurred and as West Virginia and I can say this when voter fraud -- occurred historically Democrats have been advantaged by more than Republicans.

Logan county -- talking to you but.

Are Republicans here as Tony says trying to reshape the electorate in a way of their liking.

I don't think so I don't -- saying we -- -- make sure they -- people -- voting and we want to make sure that you are legitimate voters somehow trying to -- -- what about these -- question the fact that it -- more heavily -- democratic voters -- -- a lot of barriers to -- you have to -- to the polling place to cast your -- and I don't think anyone would say well walking you know fifty -- to actually -- cast your vote is -- -- -- immediately be a barrier and some sort of nominal sense but I don't think it's -- high -- that it's -- legitimate voters from going to cast their vote.

As Tony noted there are a lot of things that you have to do in this world to do get a plane to get medication that sort of thing that require ID -- -- -- -- the -- -- well.

-- he mentioned something made that made sense we we have to there we go we have.

Okay.

You -- have to take some effort right right but what doesn't make sense is the creation of many of them.

New voter ID laws closing the window for early voting.

All of these eliminating -- which happened important.

Felons had their right to vote restored appear to have -- the current governor said no we're not going to do that anymore.

That adds up that isn't just one idea that's saying we are interested in depressing voting for people who've been turning out at record.

It's telling you are kind -- -- -- you are helpful we'd like you the Internet it's fun to be thanks guys unit.

That's pretty cool.
