As his reelection bid a year ago the President Obama has yet to come up with an actual campaign slogan so listen to how the president's push for the Buffett rule.
Has shifted since last fall.
Warren Buffett's secretary.
Shouldn't pay a higher tax rate the warmup and by the way a warmup -- -- -- Pollyanna as.
Millionaires and billionaires to.
Pay a little bit more their fair share.
In order to make sure that we're rebuilding America.
We need to change our tax code so that people like me an awful lot of members of congress.
Pay our fair share of taxes tax reform should follow the -- world.
If you make more than a million dollars a year.
You should not pay less than 30% into.
-- we can't stop investing in the things that will help grow our economy create jobs things like education for search for new sources of energy.
Just so folks like me can get another tax cut.
So I hope you'll ask a member of congress to step up and echoed that call this week by voting for -- So is the president using the same message with different words the national Press Secretary for president Obama's reelection campaign and mobile joins me now that the same person and thanks for immigrants -- right so if you take the Buffett rule explanation.
Let's just be honest between the two of us the explanation for the president has changed first it was.
It was going to cut the deficit Bennett was that it was just fair now last week in his radio address it was all about the growth.
Of the country.
Well I have to be honest this is all the same concept.
It would raise about 47 billion dollars in revenue they could either be used to reduce the deficit.
Or to make investments in things like education and programs critical to the middle class.
And here's the basic concept if you're a millionaire you shouldn't pay a lower rate on your income taxes -- middle class families if you make 250000.
Dollars a year.
Or last you shouldn't pay.
A higher rate than millionaires and billionaires.
But you have to be clear that its capital gains it's money that they've already earned that they pay tax on the -- -- in the market.
And then they're gonna pay a 15% tax rate as opposed to a thirty.
What we don't think there should be a distinction between that investment income in the income that middle class families that make when they they go to work and and and work with their hands every day but.
If you're talking about slogans in the centerpiece of this campaign there'll be plenty of time for bumper stickers.
What the presence out there fighting for us to build an economy that -- were hard work and responsibility are rewarded.
Everybody does their fair share and everybody plays -- the same -- -- -- argue that by keeping it simple stupid.
Not you but that phrase keeping it simple stupid is actually working because when you're actually looking to the deep tells for example of the -- will you get to my last -- Which was it really isn't about taxing your income at 30% is about double taxing.
But I -- to go to some of the slogans that have been out there are so far for President Obama and see if any of these might make the cut as we move forward winning a future.
We can't wait -- America built to last an economy built to last a fair shot.
Are any of those going to be on the bumper sticker come this fall then.
Well I do think that the senate the centerpiece of this campaign is an economy built to last me the Republicans have been out there for -- -- they've had an opportunity to outline a plan to restore economic security for the middle class and to create jobs.
But instead of doing that.
They've been out there rooting for the same economic policies that got us into the economic crisis in the first place more tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires letting Wall Street.
Right its own rules against some -- -- -- individual initiatives.
That you're aware of that we can't -- initiative.
Was after the Republicans refuse to support the jobs act which would have created two million jobs was filled with ideas -- Democrats and Republicans -- world stand with hope and change I mean let's face -- hope and change was really effective could it still be relevant -- that -- certainly out there on the -- the president talks about what changes you know when he was running in 2080 promised to provide.
Affordable accessible health care he's done that he promised to end the war in Iraq.
In a responsible way he's done that he's he promised to reduce our dependence on foreign oil -- -- six senior -- we promised to provide.
A tax cut to middle class families he's done that that's what changes.
And and we're fighting to continue that may be the bumper sticker we'll still be open change people wouldn't have to take it off the back their car.
And about the Press Secretary for the Obama reelection campaign thanks so much for -- -- thanks for having regrets.
