Fox News is America's election headquarters and right now some new polling on -- head to head match up.

Between President Obama and the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney if the election were held today.

The president would be governor Romney by six points that's according to an NBC Wall Street Journal poll.

But those same people gave the governor -- as six point edge when it comes of the most important issue on voters' minds how to improve the economy.

Romney also leads the president in the category of changing business as usual in the nation's capital Fox News contributor Karl Rove.

Is a former senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to president George W.

Bush good to see Carl thanks for being here.

You -- thank you Rick now I know it's early we should say that right out of the gate and these polls you know months before the election might not mean a whole lot but what do they mean -- you.

Yeah well first of all let let's let's every let's look at the plethora of polls that have appeared since the eleventh of April when Rick Santorum suspended his campaign there'd been a letter they're been eleven polls Obama has led in six.

Romney has -- in four and one of them was -- if you average all those polls together.

46 point eight for Obama 45%.

For Romney that's an awful close start to this campaign particularly given that Romney's come through -- a tough primary that is left -- -- little battered and bruised -- we're off to a very close start of what will be I think gave a tightly fought close general election.

It seems like if Mitt -- is going to win he's gonna win because people think that he's the one who knows how to fix the economy right.

I think that's right ABC war should post in a recent poll found that the disapproval for President Obama on the economy.

Was -- 59% the highest they've had in their poll.

One of the other polls -- come out since the election since the April 11 withdrawal.

Was pew which had and it some interesting data they talked about the groups that had fallen away from.

President Obama independents older voters those with some college Catholics.

And middle class voters who are making between thirty and 75000 dollars a year household income.

Those were the groups who are being affected and if you look inside those numbers you'll see a lot of people who -- deeply concerned about the economy.

The election is going to be about economy jobs deficit debt spending -- health care but it's going to be dominated by the economy Carl what about the scandals the GSA stuff.

The Secret Service stuff those pictures of the troops at the LA times published this week does that rub off on the president in a negative way.

You don't some -- it does and some of it doesn't my gut tells me that the that the the two year old photographs from Afghanistan.

Do not if it strikes me that Secret Service probably does not.

But the GSA does is sort of represent what everybody thinks is fundamentally wrong with abortion that's her bunch of a -- bureaucrats at a touch with the ordinary Americans it's been and our money like they're literally on a drunken.

Vacation at -- Las Vegas resort and which I guess they were.

But I think you gotta be careful about the biggest problem the president is that it occupies time.

And it it doesn't allowed to get his message -- we're going to be spending days and days and days talking about.

Either the Afghan of the to GSA -- the right service problem.

We mentioned some your credentials in the introduction what we didn't say is that you're the co-founder.

Of American crossroads this is one of those super pacs it's out there pro Republican super -- And we're gonna hear I understand according to reports from your organization later today that you guys have raised a hundred million dollars -- that's a lot of cash.

I'll leave it up to live to that too did the organization put out the news release -- a hundred millions a lot of money yes what -- they are doing that money.

The money that's raised by American crossroads will be used to.

Affect the outcome of the general election the money raised by crossroads GPS will be used to.

Play an active role in that the discussion over public issues in the United States.

-- Carl real quickly for people who have been critical of super pacs critical of this.

Citizens United decision from the Supreme Court they don't like the amount of money that's being put into the system and how it's being put in what do you say to them.

Well I'd I'd noticed that there was no such a commentary in 2000 for example in the NAACP voter fund announced it accepted an anonymous ten million dollar contribution to run ads attacking George W.

Bush.

I don't remember everybody DNN hide dungeon went Americans coming together a Democrat -- -- in 2004.

Eight years ago spent a 13840.

Million dollars to defeat George W.

Bush.

I don't I don't remember -- New York Times editorial about.

Groups like the League of Conservation Voters are -- -- the National Abortion Rights Action League.

Having 501 -- force except -- anonymous contributions that they spent to beat up Republicans and conservatives.

-- in an office -- during elections I'm a little bit abuse that now everybody is wired up simply because.

People on the center right like me and others have banded together to try and -- what the left has been doing for a number years thank you Carl Fox News contributor Karl Rove was good to see you.

Thanks Rick thanks for -- but this may.
