-- they are not the topics the White House wants to discuss as the president swings into full reelection mode but three major distractions and -- being caught distractions by the Associated Press are forcing the administration.
To do just that concentrate on them first came the reports of lavish spending on the taxpayer's dime by federal workers at the GSA.
Then the Secret Service prostitution scandal which looks like it's far from over the investigation continues in this week we also had photos published of US troops in Afghanistan.
Posing with the remains a terrorist so how are these controversies taking a -- if at all.
On the president's message Monica Crowley is a radio talk show host -- Julie regency is a former communications director for former democratic senator Jon Corzine both our current.
Fox -- contributors so.
Monica -- the president is not involved in any of these stories different -- so how does it affect him one way or the other you're right that none of these scandals directly affect Obama or he wasn't directly involved in any of them but I do you think they hurt him to this extent.
Particularly.
The the issues at the Secret Service and the GSA scandal.
And that is because.
It points to this growing narrative that the American government federal government in particular is so big and so unwieldy and so out of control.
That now you have more and more instances of this kind of abuse of power this kind of corruption.
And frankly this kind of lack of respect for the taxpayer and taxpayer money.
And so to that extent because Obama has presided over this explosion.
In the growth of the federal government.
He I think he's going to end up taking some responsibility for these things or at least be held to account for some of these things and if -- is Smart.
He will expand his narrative talking about the economy talking about getting jobs going -- and get this economy growing again.
He -- tie that into the fact that the federal government and the growth of it.
Has actually preventing economic growth from happening.
And start to talk about protecting the taxpayer what -- -- -- what what do you think to be good advise the president here issued heat in some cases take ownership take responsibility and then clean house well and own this -- -- set the better part coming out of some of these scandals Vatican.
Credit he's absolutely taken ownership and he's fired of people that are responsible of the GSA you know the person who was ultimately charged the G -- -- She's out.
Secret Service agents the ones that they were immediately culpable -- fired -- investigations ongoing.
This is not somebody who's gonna stand -- as Mitt Romney has with supporters of his like had run run for example.
And is trying to have it both ways if he sees -- something's wrong he's addressed it.
And these people are out of there but look I mean this is gonna affect -- -- -- extended the TSA scandal.
Under George Bush affected former president did not really affect him at all.
To extend -- -- -- you every administration has scandals the question is.
To be scandals reach into the west wing none of these patents -- -- and I and that's and that's -- a little -- say that that's what's important here is that none of these scandals.
Are directly tied into anybody in the president's inner circle to the president himself.
In terms of what happens you know out of it -- -- vast government bureaucracy this happens under Republicans under Democrats George Bush had the -- you're.
-- on yeah I -- like this to move to which I think brings it to -- even a higher level of conversation out of some of the partisanship one pollster in the Associated Press says this.
He was making the point that it really is on attached to one politician or another but he says says falls from grace speaking of these scandals increased public cynicism.
Which it's self.
Can be damaging to democracy maybe not damaging to a politician -- damaging to Monica our country overall so how do we fix that yet you know we've seen as a -- Julie is right to this extent we've seen these kinds of scandals blow up time and time again regardless of who is the president what party controls congress.
Funny thing now because the national debt is so huge because it's sixteen trillion because this president has added five trillion dollars do it.
Because he has presided over this explosive growth of government.
I think now it actually does have more traction with the American people.
Especially remember the GSA scandal.
A -- exploded around tax time when people were writing these huge checks to the government say why much -- so meant so much in federal income tax.
To have the head of the GSA go to Vegas.
Multiple times and and higher -- and mind readers so I think it it actually does have some real traction with the American voters now because.
They believe that this government now is so big Jenna and so bloated and frankly Sosa off first Juli than the combat that the president stands for hope and change which is what he ran on in 2008.
Had -- -- bring hope back gaining get the cynicism out he fired -- -- which is exactly what he's done he's not sitting around making excuses for them he's not saying well let's listen to their prospective listen the minute the story broke.
Heads rolled and I have to give him credit for that.
A lot of other politicians I have to pay back -- Ronnie because Mitt Romney has covered.
Time and time and time again cover for Rush Limbaugh wouldn't really address that issue cover pretender unwritten you know he tries to have it both ways he got to -- this president credit he sees wrong dealing.
These people are added there and that's you know you can't expect anything better than that.
Cynicism is hard to quantify which -- says it is that in that we will we're gonna have to talk about more as we move closer to this.
To this election and voting day Monica and -- nice to have you both -- right -- TO thanks to.
