The presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney just picked up another critical endorsement this -- coming from a man who was a former governors rival in the last battle for the GOP presidential nomination.

That is former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

So why did America's mayor decide to back his one time competitor here's what he said earlier this morning when he made his official endorsement.

He's got to resume and the background for the job this is going to be an election about the economy.

And if I look at all the Republican field the democratic field who better than Mitt Romney to carry our banner and to point out that this is that a failed economic to a program.

And that sensible.

Conservative economic principles.

Discussion have a boom I think he has an understanding of the economy that for deeper.

Then the president -- -- -- -- most people and I think he has the strength and toughness to handle foreign policy.

Which is an issue that hasn't been covered in this campaign not at all.

And it when -- when I've met with the candidates that was several of them to decide whether to endorse him I spent most of my time talking about foreign policy.

And joining me now to expand on that statement and is endorsement former -- city mayor from -- originally Ontario -- showing how we gonna say all right C make this decision.

He is the presumptive nominee.

And I had to get here.

Well I mean I will -- the feel very closely so.

Of them a very good friends of mine Rick Perry.

Good friend.

Newt Gingrich good friend I know Rick I campaign for Rick when he.

Has a -- senate senate campaign.

So it was hard for me because -- Michael a lot of these men and I think all of them would be good would be good president but Mitt won it I mean he he is one.

An overwhelming number of primaries he's what he's gone to the Republican voters and made his case.

And it's quite clear that he's he he would be the best candidate.

To win against Barack Obama and that's my major objective who can win and I have no question at this point now after analyzing this for several months that.

That Mitt Romney would be the best candidate to defeat -- Barack Obama.

You talking about EEU in the had a meeting with governor Romney.

It's -- you're trusting in this is a fair statement that those that are run again aspect governor Romney there's usually residual resentment and I know there's still exists some.

With some of his recent.

Challengers.

But it's important that people get beyond that absolutely I mean the reality is you know when you -- against each other -- does create resentments.

But the reality is you've got to get over -- for the good of the country for the good of the party.

And that -- is a very very.

They are very good at negative campaigning.

And now I hope that is -- applied to -- the place -- really belongs with suit which was Barack Obama -- let me put up on the screen average income.

Under Barack Obama has dropped 3000 dollars -- you look at the other barometers that we have.

We have five trillion in new -- -- -- jet he called bush unpatriotic for four trillion accumulated in eight years he used the word -- patriotic and irresponsible.

You look at the fact he will have a net.

He will not have created a single job you'll lost anywhere between 500000 and and a million jobs since -- -- became president.

How does he make that case or Kenny make the case that he deserves -- -- you know.

Not make a case deserves four more years he has to make the case against Romney if you just focus on Obama.

Obama took over a recession.

Bad economic times.

I took over -- economic time really nice mayor of New York City -- it for years later.

Unemployment was twice as much as the deficit was three times as much -- to throw me out of office.

Well that's basically what happened here.

He took over unemployment is worse.

The deficit is higher than it's been under all over the presidents combined and it just gonna go higher and higher and higher if we re elect him our economy.

He's trying desperately to recover and it can't because it's being sat on by Obama's.

Policies of redistribution.

Of intense.

Incredibly useless regulations of most of our major industries.

He's the reason we don't create jobs in this country.

Not our company -- -- so then -- basically as easily as one option left and that is to run.

-- negative campaign which he has already started -- sure he'll let you dividing the country get Axelrod yesterday on television camera as a Republican reign of terror.

And and that they're the -- talking about a civil campaign and -- wearing a reign of terror and yes the French revolution that's not.

Right that's tough to catch the camp that the campaigns and get -- -- -- pres.

It yourself and says Republicans want dirty air water.

They want the elderly kids -- Down syndrome and autism to fend for themselves and worse.

So happy passover -- bomb on 2007 and 2008 -- Obama that's running in this campaign.

Very different man.

How will the public received that.

I don't think it's gonna work out I don't think the president can run for reelection by attacking the other guy not defending his own.

His own record after all the major question is do we want four more years of Barack Obama.

It's it's the perennial question the Ronald Reagan question are we better off now than we were four years ago by every measure we are worse off now.

Our unemployment persistently high our debt incredibly high and going higher.

A country in which we can't seem to sustain a recovery from recession ever happen to us before we've -- twenty recessions.

You let's compare to Ronald Reagan Ronald Reagan took over in 1981 terrible economic times.

Double digit inflation stagflation.

By the time we get to Ronald Reagan's.

Attempt to be reelected in 1994.

He's got unemployment -- he got unemployment weighed down he's got jobs way up -- we had massive growth going on.

It was seven and a half percent growth September when he we have 2% -- yeah.

It's -- which is an almost Monroe and we don't mean count the underemployed we have now you don't thirteen more million Americans in poverty -- -- the early indicators I'm looking for from governor Romney's cool does he surround himself with.

You know I'd like to see you this cabinet I'd like -- you know I don't know who you like for vice president -- like to see strong conservative as vice president.

You know that I think is going to be very key to any anybody that's president who do they surround them Joshua.

I think all of us -- candidates and would be candidates have strengths and weaknesses I think one of governor Romney's strengths is he's a very good executive.

I have great confidence he'll select.

Highly qualified really good people that will challenge him.

And that -- -- challenge -- to be a better -- -- president I don't think he'll be any fear of you know being.

Being oh overwhelmed by someone someone that you -- that -- -- -- -- -- you for Defense Secretary or.

Homeland Security.

I don't think we should be -- say something if you would Defense Secretary.

I think it would send a strong message to the world I don't think we should be -- as idealistic except -- I do.

I got -- just wondering I guess I don't let -- -- say -- I don't think there's one thing that we can do that maybe would be an improvement over four years ago.

Maybe the vice presidential candidate she gets selected earlier.

Then waiting to August.

Where you only have two months for that candidate to sort of established themselves can and that may be the finish was selected in June -- -- three names quick multiple of the obvious names having -- -- was an obvious name Chris Christie's and obviously important and obvious name.

I heard Jeb Bush's name out there -- -- thing -- Kelly I don't why don't have been no -- I supported -- Hampshire in her race the for the -- I know Kelly really well a lot of people don't she's a little bit of an unknown but.

Enormously.

Talented.

Really got to reform the lawyer and and public servant.

-- I don't like the idea of an unknown.

I'm out I'm like there's -- -- get into this big mystery -- I don't think Marcos probably the most well known John and always -- I remember a rule.

Somewhere that I read -- in some political.

Science book.

That said that the best vice presidential candidate somebody's been tested.

Somebody that we've already gotten the chance to -- report -- apart we know all the bad things we know all the good things and all the bad things come back as old history.

And if if we are gonna select somebody fairly new then that person should be selected early.

That's a good point I think that's good advice and just get it out of the way -- and I guess it's our talent have been selected in June.

Different ball -- but if you remember by the times are telling got to the debate with Biden just a heck of a good candidate -- now if she had had three months to prepare.

But I think you've -- a very you see the Sarah Palin she's the one that debate I don't comment and you know that took like three weeks of preparation.

He you do two months of preparation what difference there aren't -- dismissed American -- trichet -- Willis are coming up a ticking time bomb.
