With the senate just rejected the GOP attempt to overturn new rules.
By the National Labor Relations Board rules aimed at speeding up union elections by days or even beats the new rules are set to kick in on Monday.
South Dakota senator John illnesses among 45 Republicans pushing for the vote senator on.
It didn't go your way but now beginning to wonder.
What's the workplace gonna look like -- do you fear it's gonna look like come Monday.
Well it's gonna change a lot obviously this is a they courses of this rule was put in place toward the end of the year the final rule was but.
Essentially what we had hoped to be able to do -- was to prevent the national labor relations board for moving forward with this change because it would -- Basically into a ten day period at the time in which an employer would have to.
Two -- to schedule -- union election right now the average 38 days so imagine compressing the schedule like that you can hardly find a lawyer in ten days to represent you.
This is a radical change and something that's very contrary to.
Small businesses and their ability to to great jobs and grow the economy it's gonna increase the cost of doing business in this country.
And -- I'd hope that today we be able to get the votes to two to reverse that.
Unfortunately we got 45 votes the United States senate -- found out again how important arithmetic is and how important it is.
That at the ballot box that we win elections.
You know -- -- -- a -- school of thought on this senator I don't view by -- -- unions should be careful what they wish weren't got.
That speed might not be in their favor -- other words you can't rush folks at a plant or factory or facility.
-- unionize if they don't want to.
It in and that you know it may be that will be the the I hope it is the case I hope employees will will push back against this.
But that was the reason the unions were so for this deal is because if you look at the -- history is any indication here.
When in a union election occurs an eleven to fifteen days the unions win 87% of those.
When they occur in 36 to 42 days that number drops down to 58.
Percent did so clearly they wanted to have this change they think it's gonna mean a lot more.
But this really is a solution in search of a problem because if you look at the the recent results of union elections.
In 2011 the unions won 71% of those and that was up three and a half percent over the previous year.
This is not a problem.
This is something that.
The big government in in the labor bosses in this country have tried to push through was in order.
To try and get more unionization in this country is going to be harder for small businesses as I said to deal with the additional cost of trying to deal with this and it's going to be harder for them to create jobs no question about it.
Well obviously that's -- many unions of course here Mitt Romney is already promised a crackdown and as I knew you and other leaders.
And -- in the senate evidence has promised the same thing after today.
And they are pulling out all the stops of that 400 million dollar.
Ad campaign at a at a minimum.
To help the president and and Democrats.
Sustained power this is gonna get pretty ugly isn't.
It has this is all about power and I did it clearly is a push right now -- you see this this pervasive within this administration we see -- lots of different agencies but.
The NLRB is a good example they've got a whole series of things we actually were able to defeat one of them.
It -- DC -- Circuit Court here recently but most of these things that they're trying to jam through right now are all designed.
To grow the power of the special interest that drive the president and his agenda here in Washington DC.
And that's why I hope people across this country -- they pay attention to these issues.
Be prepared to win the election comes in November of this year.
To to to make sure that we send a message that we want policies in place it will make it less expensive less difficult.
For small businesses to create jobs not more difficult if not putting more burdens and more impediments and more barricades in the way.
Small businesses that is exactly what this regulation will do that's going to be the practical effect of it.
But the the political fact is yes it increases in in concentrates more power with the unions and -- takes it away from employers and employees in the workplace.
Senator good seeing you again thank you very much.
Thanks feel -- to accuse senator Johnson --
