-- -- class.
And learn hello Sarah makes any excuse.
They come here because my mom has thanks again today.
I first came here when my mom was filmed and then maybe two months later she passed away and then I joined briefly through.
-- -- for -- this is the most important thing that I needed was something wonderful -- -- Help my daughter to understand was one moment I mean it's I think he's wearing everyday is the cancer coming back.
The next week's plane -- you know how guilders up show me how soon.
-- -- Nineteen school they say he can't help that eighteen years.
I hear I -- to let it -- yeah.
That's very moving him police say you can't -- things -- here.
I couldn't let it out everyone needs that peer group that group that's being -- With the heart and the passion and especially children who have a parent.
I'm suffering with cancer joining me now is little some funny she's the CEO of -- -- -- -- -- -- clip from your website.
Still this club and once he got word -- of the club come about.
-- -- -- Brad -- which the club is named after there was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and actually took her.
Several years for her to find out that she was diagnosed with cancer.
And it was pretty Lleyton in the game but one thing she learned.
Is that she needed support and she attended support groups.
And she found that's having the opportunity to talk with other people -- diagnosed with cancer.
Really helped -- get through the today.
And as a result her psychotherapist Joanna ball started -- -- club after she died and brought -- of clubs in New York City.
And it really it's the -- a special community.
Where everyone has an opportunity -- living with cancer to be with other people who really understand what it's like.
Be you know you saw the one child in the video clip they're saying that she could really processed this at school because you don't go to school and talk about a -- tough and sad stuff.
So a lot of these children don't really have anywhere else to sort of manifest what they're going through.
I and that's really what's really unique about killed -- club.
Because it's for men women and children teens.
It's for every one has been touched with cancer and New York City.
And for example the kids -- we have heady nights for the kids and they come and their parents are going to a support group.
And -- a support group but it's really a play group with other kids and all the kids in the group have a parent or loved one.
Who's diagnosed with cancer and they get to really talk about what's going nine we have this small talk at the beginning.
And they sit down and talk about what's going on at home.
I'm you know their mom may bluster hair she's wearing wakes.
And actually have two groups we have a group for children who are living with someone with cancer.
And unfortunately we have another group for kids who've lost a parent you can't -- And in that that group the kids get to talk about what's the funerals like what they wore what they said.
-- how they felt with other kids who really understand and it really makes a difference for them.
So what's the scrutiny because -- -- you have a website is there anything that we can do to help.
More actually the one thing everyone -- know that killed -- club is it's a 100% free for there are members.
They come and they can go to use supports lives educational lectures.
Classes workshop.
And they don't have to pay any money so every year we have to raise enough money.
To not only cover our members that all the new members that are coming to our club house.
In New York City alone there are over 35000.
New Yorkers that -- newly diagnosed each year.
So when you think about it there's definitely need for this program.
And so you know any donations we can get to help sponsor our members are greatly appreciate it.
What's your greatest challenge.
To working with these children what are some of the things that you've seen as saying boy we gotta work on.
Com I think the greatest challenge is being able to provide them with the opportunity to come.
To guilders club -- and their parents are -- And when their parents -- -- -- it's a challenge for them to bring them.
Having a fierce -- mom is is -- she's more worried about shuttling to and from the doctor and I'm sure that that support system is there.
Just to watch the child and maybe the -- there is also part of that plan.
If he's in the pictures on and so forth so -- -- typical right so that's and the other -- is just really making sure that parents.
Are really aware that this is available for their kids do you find it ever -- I wonder about this all the time how -- intelligence -- That that their parents was -- sick do you find it made -- parents don't want them to know every detail.
Well actually parents don't want their children -- now and they have a lot of difficulty because they feel it's too much for their children.
But -- actually know even when it's not -- called the hands -- a very resilient.
And they feel a lot better when -- honest for them.
We actually have something that we call -- focus of where we help the family.
Talk it out with a child especially if death is imminent that some of the child understands that yes they're going to be taking care the plans have been made.
That even though they're losing a parent there's someone around that's always going to be taking care of all the major life.
I -- that they have to face.
And it's really important to be honest with children's and is this just for -- workers.
Now there are -- -- clubs all over the country.
And you know it's really a special support.
Community that is available all.
On their also Kansas for canoes were all part of the same group okay and the idea is for all of these -- is that where the largest Psycho social.
Support group in the country.
And we really what makes -- really different is we provide a community where people can meet.
And actually talk to other people face to face.
I I can.
Overemphasize the importance of being able to come into round with other people who know what -- -- feeling.
I mean it's not the same going on lying.
In a chatroom -- talking over the phone are even one on one with a therapist.
The collective wisdom of our members who can explain to other members if they're newly diagnosed what to expect.
And little you know tricks that they found that work when they're going through treatment.
Is so important and that's what really strength and -- makes quality of life for these people also the live chat as.
EB -- -- a great club kids need many people to visit them it keeps their mind off the problem.
Wow really really be okay so there's an event tonight it's the first annual benefit event it's here in New York City.
At the cutting room until my so this is actually the first annual event of our associate -- I -- -- home numerous events.
Throughout the year but our associate -- is -- a group of young professionals.
Who have gotten together and decided to throw a signature event called the -- please.
Hope laugh during church where we will give for four -- -- to four individuals to a young adults who are cancer survivors.
And I think it says a group of people who are really under represented.
Most people think that cancer is really for older people all the cancer does not discriminate.
With age and this is a group of individuals who really don't get a lot -- attention.
And in terms of having cancer.
We also have another great event coming up which is celebrating women working and living with cancer on May ninth.
And -- -- that's another thing we can -- right and Emma Stone is going to be our host he's guild of club ambassador for us -- in the stone from the health yes you know that's right.
So.
There are events that threw out the year and is also a need for volunteers.
And I filled with content for anyone who really wants to help that.
Edit and again I mean let's show the -- the website until this club in NYC -- weren't -- -- -- -- national organizations of people -- our viewers are online role all of that into the world it's just not willing to the national organization.
Unfortunately but.
It is very easy on eleven and fine.
Where all the other.
I couldn't -- there's something -- that this probably in your area yet you just wanna get involved all right.
Thank you very very much for coming in this morning and telling us about killed us.
Club NYC good -- -- your house and thank you so much important work that you manually -- -- -- seeing some response -- on the live tag two great thank you.
