And -- Liza chairman of the house government reform and oversight committee.

Who is with us on this fast and furious breaking news to mr.

chairman thank you very much for being here with us so let's hear let's start with this report in the LA times that says that.

House leaders the Republican House leaders have drafted a proposed contempt of congress citation.

For the attorney general of the United States is that true.

The working documents we believe the LA times have originated in our committee and are part of our on going options that we're working on well trying to get the truth it in fast and furious.

They speak of the right of a 48 page draft citation being drawn up.

By you by you in your office is that the case.

Well by definition.

We've made it very clear repeatedly including when attorney general holder was in front of our committee.

That our patience is limited and that.

Although he agreed that he was going to quote cooperate he also -- auditor with a whole group of things he wouldn't do I think the most notable one is.

Congress was lied to the American people were lied to -- every fourth of last year.

And ten months later when they finally admitted that it was an outright lie.

We included in the subpoena other the legitimate need necessary request tell us how that -- came to be and tell us what happened during the intervening ten months.

The attorney general -- flat refused to give us any documentation after February 4.

Bought on the other matter he's also refused to give us the kind of information necessary for us understand.

Who works at justice today particularly here in Washington.

Who was part of this failed program part of the decision made decisions and wanted this program.

And it's still working there and the president should not have confidence by any means and those people and.

Forgive me for pressing mr.

chairman we appreciate you coming on being here -- but I did I do -- Just ask if you're comfortable answering that if if there is a 48 page draft citation of contempt that -- you or your office have prepared.

There there is a document we don't we haven't seen this document that we can't be here at the same it is but of course we have gone through and made the case for the various reasons that we have no choice.

Left unless the justice changes their position changes it quickly so that we can get legitimate discovery.

Let's remember something twelve Secret Service agents made a terrible lapse in judgment in Cartagena.

Nine of them I believe today are gone.

And -- in many ways a much worse lapse in judgment that has led to the death of Brian Terry led to the death of countless Mexicans.

On the other side of the border 2000 weapons we'll keep killing for years to come.

And these people still have their jobs and we don't even have their names for sure.

The that the LA times further reports that there was a meeting in house speaker John Mayer's office and the Republicans on your committee were given the Green light to proceed.

Toward a contempt citation that would definitely be a step.

Further than we were.

Earlier when you were raising similar complaints you've been upset with mr.

holder for awhile now saying that he -- comply with the subpoena 80000 documents demanded.

Just a fraction of those provided he says is politically he says he's given you what you're entitled to -- to a vanity issue on that for awhile.

But as speaker Boehner gave -- the Green light to go ahead with the contempt citation that takes it to another level has that happened.

Well I think the speaker's office we'll have to confirm some things what I was saying is that all the members of my leadership.

Agree that were entitled to documents the American people are entitled the documents and discovery they haven't been given.

And that's where the attorney general and I find ourselves at odds he wants to view that he gives us what he thinks we need.

Quite frankly for those old enough to remember Richard Nixon thought there were a lot of things we weren't entitled to that ultimately the American people are glad.

The congress got this is the same situation.

It is about what happened after Brian Terry died.

After these weapons had long since been denied and and in congress says the American people -- to know and hope people -- Possible and what's -- -- at different times ours or what what is the time frame on this because you know you keep -- in your.

Estimation the attorney general has been delinquent on his responses for months really now so what is the time frame.

That you still see as available for the Justice Department to comply before they actually do get hit with the contempt citation.

Little.

What we have it well though we have a few other options and some additional discovery we are to a great deal a great extent stalled because of the cover up and the -- stonewalling from the Justice Department.

We have beliefs and thoughts of of who might be responsible I've I've been aired some of those names.

But getting to the truth and the president knowing the truth and taking quick and decisive action.

That's going to take that kind of discovery were not getting the justice is holding in these are legitimate documents the not just that we have a right to know.

But the American people have to have a right to know who decided and who covered up.

Congressman Darrell ice up its chairman we appreciate you being here thank.

You --
