Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

-- possible breakthrough in the treatment of lung cancer scientists at the Mayo Clinic identifying a single gene.

That appears to play a major role in how quickly the disease.

Develops and spreads that Davidson -- is the chief of the division of robotics and Mount Sinai Medical Center here in New York City and a member of the Fox's medical eighteen he joins us with more this.

And doc understand that it's of particular gene.

What is this gene called -- how does that work.

Kelly the name of this is called an MP -- it's -- it's a new gene that we're finding out about this.

But obviously plays a big role because lung cancer as you know is -- leading cause of cancer death in America both among men and women.

And actually these responsible for more deaths -- prostate cancer breast cancer and colon cancer.

So any finding such as this is going to -- save many devices that is coming from Mayo Clinic.

And what they're finding is that this particular gene is some sort of growth factor where a lot of these -- those count on that -- -- to grow.

Break the wall up and start spreading and metastasized this is really important new finding.

Now more important in this is that we always knew that M and but now we're finding out that also causes -- growth of the cancer locally not just the spread but also locally this is a new finding.

We're also seeing in this study that this and then.

Is not found in normal tissue but its -- more cancer cells which is a great finding.

I mean mouse models research.

What they find is when they stop these gene.

Now all of a sudden the -- those are going to really stop growing.

A lot of great findings coming out as a result of this and as a result of this how does this differ from chemotherapy what would this do -- -- because chemotherapy is what they usually used if they're if they're actually looking at this -- how might that help its excellent point the way it works is you have to cancer stem cells and then you have tumor -- A lot of these third therapies there were using today such as radiation or chemotherapy.

Really go after those cancer cells but it they're very resistant these stem cells are very resistance to radiation or chemo so what happens.

The classic shrinks.

And and over time you can have recurrence of the cancer comes back.

What this particular gene does.

Of course after the actual cancer stem cells by inhibiting these -- factors were able to control the cancer so this is really going to open a whole new way.

Are treating cancer of the few that's -- -- is because that that is something that will prevent that recurrence because so many people they think their out of the woods and all of a sudden.

It's right back Adam just as you explain absolute then even more important now we're finding out that these M and may play a role in prostate cancer melanoma.

-- also carcinoma and many other cancers so I think while this is still very early phase.

And most clinic which does need to continue.

This is a positive step in this field which is -- didn't disease.

So what's the take away what are what are what are people out there watching this right now.

What should they be saying what I would say is that you know did did -- trick and you really we're breaking the genetic code yes you know traditionally has a surgeon.

I take the cats are out when we cure them is so great.

If not -- we give radiation now we're really the next decade we're going to break the genetic code that's where all the hitting -- I'm by finding those were really going to extend the life.

I really give these cancers -- break the shut them down with us.

To smokers shouldn't change absolutely and -- -- -- outlook bottom line is one of the main causes a lung cancers smoking.

So you really wanna stop smoking -- grab your bar though that's -- and even -- -- Don't people think you know I can just take care of the team player on right that's I have no matter what the genes Dario thanks so much Tom thank you so good news services that are right.

And while we're so appreciative of -- -- sitting -- for our Jamie Colby today -- traveling down to Washington to be with the present United States for the white house correspondents' dinner -- we hope you have a good time there.

Have a great time and two great working with you Kelly and doctors money thank you as well I'm Patti -- brown and coming up next.

The Journal Editorial Report.

Oh several of the time left hook hook up and I think that's pathetic.

We've protected -- -- really good news about one to -- our troops and make sure you're you're not smoking out there got a lot of holes out -- real quickly once more.

People can.

Take hold in this new generation absolutely and tomorrow -- -- house -- Sunday 1030 we have many different topic some medical thought to look forward to seeing you could time.
