On Sunday tens of thousands of people will -- Nationals Park here in Washington but not for a baseball game.

They will come for America's night of hope and inspirational event put on by jewel -- You going to become everything God's created -- to leave.

And -- going to have everything god intended for you to have.

He is pastor of the nation's largest congregation.

Lakewood church in Houston with more than 40000 members.

In his weekly service on television reaches more than ten million households.

I know I am looking at the night in the end the body women right now.

You are -- free maker.

Joining us now are the pastor -- of Lakewood church and two of the most influential spiritual figures in this country.

Drawl and Victoria -- Spain and welcome back to FOX News Sunday.

Great to be with you Chris.

-- you've been holding.

These nights of hope around the country tens of thousands of people coming out to hear your -- what are you trying to tell them.

I'm trying to let people know there.

Even though there's difficult times in the country that -- good that he's on our side and.

You know that nothing we we face as a surprise to him and then you keep your faith in him you can have peace even -- -- of the difficult times.

And Victoria at looking at it from the point of view of so many people coming out in this particular case on a Saturday night.

Why.

Well I think they.

Everything wants to be encouraged.

You know you want to be encouraged you want to know that there is a future there is hoping.

Yeah we -- a lot of negative things in life it just doesn't mean you know it's just not just isolated.

And I just think people resonate it resonates with them to be encouraged intend to be able to look at their future and know that there is something to look forward to it.

Sarah and -- let's talk about that because this gets to a little bit of controversy about your ministry jolt your critics say that what you -- is -- prosperity gospel you can be a better parent.

You can have a better career and those critics say that -- more of a motivational speaker.

Then you are -- well.

The fact is Chris I do want to motivate people I want them to be a better parent a better you know to overcome an addiction to leave the past behind so.

I don't take -- you know criticism that I want to motivate people but everything that teachers based out of the scripture and a group of preachers kid and I just.

My gift is to talk about everyday life.

Sometimes they say it's -- prosperity gospel but you know I just believe that we're supposed to excel -- it's not about getting rich it's about.

-- the seeds of greatness that -- put on the inside to come out and -- for a while growing up.

You know we were -- the -- Christian you've got to be poorer and defeated and showed that you're humbled by suffering that.

That's just not the view I have of god I believe he's on our side and he wants -- to.

Indeed the best in life that whenever we do a great parent a great business person a great college students what will explain that -- how how do you do that.

I think you do that one by.

They've -- by the principles in the Bible one.

One thing you got to see yourself the right way.

If you do if you feel guilty because of past mistakes and you live with the wrong self image.

You're never gonna rise up and -- who God's created you be so I think much of it has to do with our attitude with the words we speak.

With how we treat others not just trying to get blessed to be a blessing every day I think these are principles -- -- -- that -- sure.

-- seeds of -- to come up.

But Victoria -- jolt does not talk and again this goes back to the critics you'd -- the net you know you -- -- -- negative people.

Doesn't talk a lot about the double doesn't talk a lot about -- doesn't talk a lot about sin.

Aren't those all.

You could say they're downers but aren't those all important parts of religion.

Well I think he does talk about that he just talks about a from a different angle instead of saying you know you did bad today you know you see -- this.

He just says you know what you can do better.

You know you can work hard you can be focused she can be disciplined so it's on Hussein and reverse you know I think about when I talked to my kids.

And I wanna encourage and inspire them and cause them to do better I don't -- him down for doing wrong.

But I -- how to do right and I believe that's what Jesus did.

He always pointed people in another direction he never beat him down he never condemn -- wait wait wait I didn't do Jesus I don't mean to dig -- ahead.

Nobody could be could be tough.

Be tough one specific time he was -- as he got really angry.

When the merchants were in the temple and he got really tough then but I think the principle wise they were used in the gospel you know to -- and so.

It you know what are they gonna do with that I don't know but that did upset -- but -- you rarely did he.

Did he lash out he was.

Always among the people he wasn't held up in the synagogue -- in the temple he was always walking among the people he was always reaching out to people he was always.

I -- -- and and making a better.

Then when they were before so that's kind of what I feel like our message -- is we're not denying that.

That that we can do wrong but we're focus in on what can we do right it's the goodness of god the -- says that leads people to resilient.

-- generally stay away from politics and certainly more than a lot of preachers do and I remember the last time you were serious and I wanna grow.

The people who listen to me I don't want to divide them -- and some track.

But you are here here in Washington this week preaching and also meeting with politicians I'm gonna ask you about some of the issues that that -- -- country.

There are a lot of Hispanics in your congregation.

In Houston.

What do you think how should we deal with the illegal immigrants in this.

-- wish I knew the answer Chris is so complicated I'm I'm on the side of mercy.

But I do think we have to secure borders and I don't.

I don't know that you can you know I know both sides of the argument I don't know the answer but.

I'm always gonna follow on the side of mercy specially the ones I know that grew appear that were born here you think.

I I don't know what the right thing to do is spent that you know my heart -- out -- I'm open and on the -- -- amnesty is not a dirty word -- well.

I don't know that you know I don't know that that's the answer but I haven't heard I haven't heard of a great solution yes I don't know -- so -- like somebody said.

We can't pack up to a million and tell them to leave.

And didn't you know I don't know if his right to just say okay here's -- made that came here illegally so I don't know what it is.

I wish I knew a good answer but I don't is being gay and -- I believe the scripture says that being gay is a sin but I you know it but I must say that Chris I get people saying -- -- -- gay hater in your gay basher I'm not I don't I don't.

I don't dislike anybody gays are some of the nicest kindest most loving people in the world.

But my faith is based on what I believe description says and that's the way I read this scripture so you think -- -- -- any of the rights.

Of heterosexual couples civil unions marriage.

I don't think you should do we should discriminate against anybody so it.

I think yes I don't think you know there was an issue or somebody couldn't go visit again -- love going in the hospital I don't think that's right they love each other.

So I think there should be some I'm not for gay marriage but I'm not for discriminating against people are mormons.

Like Mitt Romney true Christians.

Well I believe their followers of Christ and you know I think where you -- the debate gets into.

That I don't believe that Mormon isn't his traditional orthodox christianity I -- I realize there's differences there.

But I go back to when I hear Mitt warmth more Mitt Romney and some among mormons for -- a lot of Jesus he's -- -- -- believe it was raised from the dead.

And they follow the teachings of the Bible I'll believe that they are followers of Christ and to -- my Brothers and I'm not looking to exclude them and you know push and.

Victoria what do you think of the president President Obama saying that religious institutions not churches but hospitals charities.

Should it as a mandate -- provide insurance coverage that includes contraception even if that's against their teachings.

Well you know I just I I I hate to get to the point where people mandate.

You know this -- -- -- a democracy people vote.

You know so it's it's difficult.

You know for me to say yeah this -- get.

I just think that we as a people should be able to vote on things like that and it and and I'm just not.

You know I'm not I don't really want to be told what to do in any area.

So I just think as a -- -- just like everything else it's just vote on those things and that's just.

You know.

Think.

It's true of every profession but but occasionally and I don't have to tell you and I'm sure I'm not the first to bring this up some televangelists gets in a scandal corrupted by.

By Monday and by fame and the fact is that you guys are world famous and you make an enormous amount of money because people buy your books.

How do you avoid temptation to -- Well you know we stay real close to each other as -- as a couple.

And as a family and done you know we just -- we just do our best I just think that staying close together.

Being connected communicating.

We love each other we -- 25 years.

-- great children and I think that she just can do your best and that's an and you know what.

We really is such -- hard every day we pray we asked god help us.

You know it may look big in -- but really we're just two people were ordinary people.

It's it's kind of we pinch yourself it's hard to believe you know we're we're grateful for for what they influence that god has given us that -- is trying to bring.

Bring -- -- I mean lead -- not a temptation but deliver us from evil how do you keep from losing your wife.

Well I think Chris just what she said we -- to start off every morning individually and together at times just to search your own heart.

And -- learn from the mistakes of the past from from ministers many of these people ministers that have -- there were friends of -- growing up.

And I realize -- must have every day you know you can come down a lot faster than you -- up.

And so I don't feel I have changed in the last twelve years since -- started doing this.

You know our focus has never been around money or fame or success -- around helping people and so we continue to go around the world doing that today.

Finally as you end your week here in Washington what is.

The spiritual state of our union.

If you will and and -- we do better.

Well I think we can always.

Do better in coming together in unity.

It seems like and this is just personal opinion when I grew talking more about the government and lawmakers now that the -- -- a little more.

Compromise or maybe that's not the good word but a spirit to work together -- today I don't feel like I see that is much there's not.

You know somebody can't get a 100% to they're not gonna be happy and I just don't think that's life I don't get a 100% of what I want so.

I would love to see.

No description talks about when -- dwelling unity you know God's blessing is there I think the country would be better to fantastic country who would be better if we could come to get a little bit more immunity.

Victoria -- -- want to thank you so much.

For bringing your message of hope to this program down and to this city big -- -- it sure could use it thank you nothing dangerous.
