Good morning I'm Doug shown in this week I'll -- Hosting campaign insiders with my.

Colleagues and friends.

Jungle -- -- former congressman from Long Island and pat could you know mr.

can be helpful to those of us here to show extraordinary.

Political consultant commentator.

And if we have time we'll talk about one of his other -- CA's.

As a film writer producer and creator.

The man who is distinguished himself in a number of rounds.

Today we're gonna do what we always do.

Which is get inside the campaigns what we have said from the start -- campaign insiders is no fear no favor.

-- -- What we do is we tell the truth is we know it -- we try to provide insights you can't get.

Anywhere else we're not.

Inside the beltway journalists we are practicing.

Political pros who understand campaigns and their dynamics pat let me start with you.

The race.

According to the latest Fox News poll is 4646.

The numbers have been jumping around a great deal.

What does it mean in what does it.

All of -- for the future well right now I mean you have holes where like in boxes 4646.

Rescues and has -- up point.

Gallup has Obama surging back junior seven -- eight point lead.

-- this this is the season for polls don't matter about where the -- preferences it's a structure.

What we do have dog is.

A situation which covered Colin jump ball.

One of the things that you said yesterday on what we were on television doing -- Sunday show for those of you do see is at 530 yards on 545 actually got a much you have it.

But we should point you made about when asked whether.

-- voters were asked the fox -- whether.

President of brought Obama had a -- on the economy.

61 I think percent said no we didn't.

And in the 50% didn't think Romney did either -- -- this is a jump ball situation.

This election is looking for definition.

The president I think is and we can talk about this.

This it's -- up in the air the next couple months the real battle line I think going on is who will define the election.

Who will win the battle of defining what this is a referendum Obama.

Is this a question about the future so far you've got people who want a discussion about the future -- getting -- Woods was sort of sensing and we got this one of our tweets.

That voters are ambivalent about the candidates and the candidates are ambivalent about talking about the real issues in the future how -- -- -- Wife I see it that way and I I frankly don't understand I I cannot understand how if you want to be president you don't want to talk to the American people.

About what you want to do ask president.

And get them enlisted and behind you it seems to me quite easy actually -- and yet you're gonna get attacked from the other side I think one you can -- you get the forum.

-- the Wall Street Journal -- and a editorial.

On the end of the week.

That I think says it -- -- -- political memo and it and it echoed our peace and -- -- -- called him on the of the electric.

Which -- -- -- -- somebody wants to win they need to promote -- vision.

They're saying -- and they've really made the cases they sit above Romney's if you want to be president he he has to overcome is cautiously to run a campaign.

That is equal to America's current political moment when the White House season show a larger vision and -- pursue it no truer words -- said.

He has got to get out -- -- -- to be cautious campaign that he -- As -- wires in doing this.

Well as I learn from you yesterday as we prepared for Sunday afternoon version of campaign insiders.

He is surrounded by.

Political hacks who just want to attack attack attack.

The on the offensive all the time but he's the candidate he's the guy that's gonna be president he should be thinking -- I've spent my adult life preparing for this moment to become present.

And I want -- go through the campaign.

In a way that will not only win me the election.

But will create a -- presidency and the way to do it seems to -- we did Gregg Jarrett asked us yesterday original answer it.

What's going to be happening this week in the campaign.

I would've answered.

Romney should.

Leave the trail for a week or -- now go back to Boston get his campaign staff supplement the staff with new people.

And sit around for a few days and say to them walk.

What's come up with a positive thing here something.

A tax plan a spending plan at some thing that I can enthusiastically.

Embrace.

And center of the positive part of my campaign around the negative part on Obama is sitting there every day it's called a weak economy.

-- Well done I think to jump on the -- what future reaction do I think to -- needs to lead to danger right now is triggering away.

A minute we're already did to people.

-- -- coming me in June critical months -- this I think you're right John.

He needs to go in and it ended and in meanwhile hopefully they'll be another narrative people get his allies to mount a narrative of Obama which so far they've been unable to do.

And he needs to focus on what is going to be the big message don't you think are absolutely think it needs to be the big message.

You know my first question was really directly responsive to Charleston.

-- -- who wrote in saying and why.

Do the numbers keep jumping around.

Call with registered voters what's going on and my answer to that which is really a follow on to your question pat.

Is they jump around because nobody has any enthusiasm.

Good week for the economy Obama up bad week.

He's down -- that the undecideds.

Jumping around I think what would be particularly useful if we could look I'd like to get.

Your reactions both as professionals.

And as observers of the electoral process for long time to it and we have the candidate.

President Obama -- run taking credit as he should for the raid on.

Osama bin Laden but also.

Attacking Romney for arguably not being as committed or committed at all to that -- -- purpose.

The that's what -- George Bush said it was right the president is the decider in chief nobody can make that decision for you.

Look he knew what would have been cool -- Navy -- on in there and hadn't been in line.

Suppose they've been captured or killed and the downside I would have been horrible form.

-- -- -- What was your reactions of -- Our bodies -- and then -- a loss having lived through the field hostage mission in 1980 is better have one that works the one that doesn't.

But I think that -- over selling this.

And I think it is down one hopefully we'll talk but -- malvo -- policy but I think what this is is he campaigned as saying what are we got from brought on.

And so now we have an anniversary some album will exploit it.

I think there's a danger there.

You know it all you have to do is remember the Georgia -- George.

H.

W.

Bush.

Won the cold for where -- -- with huge rating -- -- it didn't know it didn't do a darn thing for him come the election which was about the economy.

And what people had to discontented people -- country.

We have a bad to worse economy now and we have a greater discontent than -- face it he's not a substitute for that.

But I think you made a good point and we should reiterated to it today -- -- yesterday.

Renewed campaign insiders on the phone home network.

Which is the missing the miss is that the -- of Romney did.

Body after he was attacked because -- Obama -- not only promoting themselves.

John Q there are they're saying Romney wouldn't.

Do this -- that you neighborhood right.

-- -- say they resurrected a quotation.

Partly out of context.

But it -- Romney five years ago -- -- I wouldn't know and I always tell you all of you can go to the American people I doubt that it's.

-- even as partisan -- times.

I would doubt -- quarter of the American people including hard Democrats believe that no president would not take up and -- they have the opportunity.

But it takes away something else I think you said yesterday.

And I think the opportunity for Romney -- I think Romney -- a huge opportunity.

He and an opportunity was not to wait for days and have Ed Gillespie get on TV and say.

Really terrible that Obama's politicizing this governor Romney should -- I think stood up when -- it came out.

And -- you know I'm so sad by this I applaud the president that this isn't for negative ads.

You know of course I hope I would have made exactly the same decision he didn't and then I think most.

Most would have been -- -- that he and President Clinton would have gotten into.

Politicizing.

Something that as -- as Americans we all support right.

And then I think the history of this is true it is in the wasn't that I mentioned is immutable one debates of Ronald Reagan ever lost in his career.

To Walter Mondale.

What -- -- lose it because Mondale who's viewed as an attack dog came out that I wanna thank the president.

For what he's done to unify our country and he restored sense of greatness whatever it just -- from the campaign up.

For that debated -- great about this president.

But you know what it did it -- Mondale looked bigger suddenly on -- national state.

This is exactly what -- could have done.

He would have looked like it presidential and he would have Biden to -- conference -- resolutely -- what's what's -- there I think he should have done that you he should listen DO.

Obama does -- listen you may be -- a blizzard hasn't.

And if he had done that where does that score points not on the right.

But on in the medal in the work better that's right -- look above -- at least we will come back we're getting a number of people writing and we will respond to as many as weekend.

In the next segment but stick with us as you'll see it will only get better as -- -- to the electoral map -- your comments facts.
