When congress -- Obama fighting to keep his job despite a slow economic recovery and congress' approval rating hitting a record blow.
-- -- -- -- trying to cash in America's disdain for congress.
Here's -- just told union workers.
Over the last year I've sent congress a whole series.
-- -- bills to put people to work to put your members back to work.
-- again and again.
I've said.
Now not the -- this interest rates below.
Construction workers are out of work contractors are begging for work and the work needs to be done.
Let's do work.
And time efforts.
The Republicans have gotten together.
And they've said.
-- -- -- has Tulane is the chair of the House Republican Conference he joins us good -- Sarah and that the economy is very very sluggish very slow recovery and does the president has identified the problem.
It's -- you guys the Republicans com.
What's the story with -- trying to create jobs for the American people.
Well first -- I don't think there's a president in living memory who has less credibility on the topic of jobs in the economy under Barack Obama.
He till he told the American people we pass his stimulus plan unemployment would never go beyond 8% in fact it would be 6% now in as you well know we've had 38 straight months 8% plus unemployment the worst record since the Great Depression.
We were told if we passed his health care plan that it would help the economy.
We now know the Congressional Budget Office says that'll cost us almost a million jobs frankly private economists.
But the number much higher.
He told us if we pass the Dodd-Frank.
Act.
Supposedly aimed at Wall Street.
That would help the economy instead of what we see is that the big banks are getting bigger the small banks are getting smaller.
In the taxpayer is getting four.
So with all due respect to the president I don't think you know -- jobs bill if he tripped over.
You know how Republicans have passed over thirty different.
Jobs bills and with one or two exceptions.
He's ignored a mall.
People can go reviewing your show two jobs GOP dot gov and see what we've done -- -- and it's mainly aimed at making the tax code fairer flatter simpler.
More competitive.
Trying to make balance these regulations.
Against the cost of jobs it has ever happened to do with bringing down the cost of energy.
-- I've I've I've I've -- him -- and I and there are so many of these -- there's the entrepreneur or access to capital act passed in the house.
But stalled in the senate.
Access to capital for job -- act.
Pass in the house stalled in the senate and -- -- and is a similar pattern developing -- -- -- -- yeah no not I really have got to I've got a whole list of things that went to the website and it is very disturbing I think the president should call senator Harry Reid.
And -- you know what let's stop point you pass yours and then we'll send a book the conference -- in the house and senate to work the not so Americans nationally.
Now I do think though that that the president probably is jabbing a little bit because.
While the senate has passed a transportation bill which does you know much towards going towards construction infrastructure in -- country create jobs.
Is that the house that can't seem to -- but does these sort of continuing resolutions up that it's not.
Totally the house is not totally brain blame free on the seven everybody's got a little bit of responsibility of but.
I blame the house I -- and the senate more.
I'm simply -- not right in their own bills to that this go to conference.
Well number one we will go to conference on a transportation bill infrastructure is important but nobody believes that is the panacea.
I mean again the president's policies have failed.
He is you know presiding over an economy where half of all Americans now -- either classified by the Census Bureau.
Is being either in poverty or -- low income.
Single mothers you have more of them in poverty and than ever before.
Small businesses are frankly just throwing up their hands -- the regulatory.
In red tape.
On slot -- so again this is a president who because he can't run on his record on jobs in the economy frankly usually try.
President Obama -- the politics of division and -- I think this another -- wind -- without a doubt divided but when you become president that we their job is to lead -- to try to you know somehow.
Get that gap to bridge an act and NS.
Right now on things like the budgets is set the doesn't have a budget bill I mean.
-- it it seems it together so there's a lot in the democratic senate that needs -- -- -- needs to be done so that it can.
I'm not saying you guys -- the perfect bills in the house by any means but you have put a stop on that's not only he has -- since the but the thing is I -- leadership is the leadership does require you to sort of you know deal would to recalcitrant people and try to get everybody at least it worked together.
And I don't see a -- -- fit.
-- not here is Greta is that they've made -- political play call that it's more important that nothing gets done in Washington mean meanwhile again house Republicans.
Have put forth number what you know we we deal with the drivers that would help this economy.
Number one dealing with this.
Red tape burden to make sure that anything that has and it significant impact on the economy has to be approved by the elected congress as opposed to the unelected.
A bureaucracy.
Tax code fundamental tax code to bring down rates -- ten and 25%.
On the deficit neutral basis.
By getting rid of all the underbrush of the loopholes and special interest.
Deductions but quietly -- his -- of the president's health care plan would be huge in creating jobs.
We may revision question -- even -- Bowles Simpson talked about it and went attacks but those 3300 earmarks and that was that mean first -- -- Simpson was outsourcing because congress didn't do its job it's everybody outsourcing it to them.
But then it was rejected.
And we nothing ever does get done but that I recommend a -- to senator Tom Coburn has written a book called the desktop which talks about the gridlock here in Washington make -- was hair stand on -- But anyway I think last went on that -- thank you sir and good luck.
Thank you appreciate it.
