All right we started to show talking about job seekers licking their wounds today after new report confirms.

What a lot of them probably already knew companies are no hiring -- liked it used to be -- -- talking only a couple of months ago.

My next guest says it really -- -- Be that way he would know bill -- employs more than 300000.

Workers and that was as of last year he's generally -- to laying off people.

At any time it's an exception in the rules.

Sometimes is pretty much Paramount and the financial community one of the world's most recognizable.

Brands and hotel groups Marriott now is hanging up his hat.

And he's checking in here.

For his one and only exit interview the former C house current executive chairman of -- Bill.

Bill good to have you congratulations.

Thank you good to be here -- -- career you've had young man but let's get into.

-- careers a lot of folks a word right now.

It's slowing down that that they're not gonna get many opportunities in your hiring notwithstanding.

The environment is suddenly turning in hospitable again -- that.

What we're seeing good results and our hotels were seen.

Rooms and be more occupied and they were since I was seven.

And we're seeing business come back a chance in business is get our group businesses spend.

And we'll open 151000 rooms here in the United States this year and -- -- five to 101000 people.

So what you're.

Hiring but a lot of your colleagues are not.

A lot of the rank and on the cash.

It started -- -- -- with the news that Alcoa was hanging on to close to two billion dollars cast your record some at the time for them.

Apple of course famously super hundred billion dollars and -- and then some of company after company the same deal why aren't they hiring.

I think they're waiting for something to happen in Washington I think they're concerned about regulation I think they're concerned about the policy of our current administration and what's going on in in the country I think there.

Just waiting to see what's gonna happen Obama care and -- -- certainly after is right there holding on his cash.

What do you.

You make of some of them Republican to Democrat alike who were earlier saying.

We've crunched the numbers on this health care thing and we might drop our plan pay the penalty.

And suck all that out.

Because it's still cheaper.

I don't.

Know that anybody really now as we keep trying to put a tag out of -- we're not sure obamacare is gonna costs as we continue to.

Push the numbers and try and study and figure out what it means that we're not there yet.

No but a lot of your colleagues are not -- you're very generous benefits and coverage but it it -- you know hospitality.

Industry that is most -- usual.

But.

Surely.

You must.

Crunch the same numbers that McDonald's and some of these others did of these different kinds of groups like gradient and today it'd be really wouldn't be -- American troops.

-- they're anxious to you could going to go to his studio wellspring.

A benefits to.

The let's say even part time workers.

Because.

You they would need a waiver they got a waiver.

Many others did better than have a few hundred did.

On that must say something about the underlying health care.

Plan that so many opted out or found waivers from.

Well -- -- Stent to health care costs have not risen this -- in the last years so there's they have in the past I think they're up 4%.

And sound worse cautiously optimistic there will be able to figure this thing out but we've not made a decision yet on what we're gonna do.

Tom what -- Did the presidential race this year.

You know many are saying that Mitt Romney has an uphill battle.

And that not the least of which is because a lot of people don't know more they don't know the whole Mormon thing -- -- as a fellow Mormon yourself is that going to hurt him what do you think.

I don't think the Mormon thing is a big issue right now I think the issue is the economy and the jobs that you've been talking about -- what's gonna happen in our economy.

Mitt Romney is a fabulous businessman he's been on our board for ten years or more.

And got off -- a core set twice still wants to run the Olympics and then another time now -- run for president.

But he's very competent very capable an outstanding leader and I think he's got a real run.

I know you -- -- cosmetic type things and -- in your executives substance matters and all but in this world we live in today we like.

Candidates who were cool I guess the president's cool the rap against of Mitt Romney is he's not.

After that as a means evidentiary Newsday -- would have called Abraham Lincoln cool but either -- as -- -- are you worried that the media.

Just will never.

-- to Mitt Romney and might never give him any fair treatment as a result.

Well that's a big concern in -- I'm isn't a lot of the mediator -- our pro Obama and not particularly enamored of the Republican Party.

At the same time I think that's got a great chance the numbers show good for those older people are gonna show up at the polls and many of them will vote for -- because he has the same values they have.

But you know then you see these Occupy Wall Street rallies that grew substantially with native -- worker events worldwide yesterday.

Protests and better than a 130 US cities some of them in California's you know -- -- very violent.

Many of these largely young people.

Target one for senators like yourself I guess me -- -- but I think they really.

Go after corporate guys even though they don't much like Fox News anchor guys and and they -- They argue that.

You disproportionately.

Benefit.

-- -- there expense.

-- I say were providing opportunities for people around the world not only here but abroad.

50% of our general managers and come from within -- -- -- ranks of the company we promote from within a great deal.

Now we started out -- one hotel.

Thirty years ago and we started out -- fifty years ago and we started out as a company.

85 years ago whether you understand how we have 300000 employees -- were all about hiring and bringing people onboard and -- and train them and giving them an opportunity.

So when -- About I think there was an -- -- on not too -- on a Fox Business Network a total -- which by the way if you don't get you should demand.

But I digress and he was saying something to the effect serve this is a lost art in this country a lot of young people particularly don't smile anymore.

Cancer doesn't look good news today is that concierge doesn't get back to you.

Not that it's everywhere but that it increased at a point where.

Service workers aren't what they used to be and I know you were right very rough on this issue -- -- your counterpart at Disney Bob Iger.

But there must be something to that so many people complain about it.

But -- while our top a goal in the company is that customer engagement.

And we continue to train our people to teach them how to engage of the customers to immediately solve customer problems this.

Meet our customers with a smile of confidence and do everything we -- to get the customer on board to have -- return to our business.

Our corporate velocity is taken care of your people -- taking care of the customer and the customer will come back.

-- -- we can continue to -- that kind of culture I think we'll be able to get outstanding service.

But how do you weed out because you're pretty nice guy firm got a nice to have you weed out the lemons you invariably are gonna have to be stuck with.

They're dated and not been preaching from here smear him book or they're just they're just -- has still -- deal.

My experiences of dilemmas we got themselves they're not comfortable in the environment where everybody is friendly and they're not friendly and pretty soon they get it they say this isn't for me and we agree -- them.

So what -- you don't what are you let them go I don't resort to share there.

And -- with some other company.

His attitude problem surely it is how do you sectors are -- are very much Lisa are you how are you enjoying your fear of job here.

And they say not really and we say well why not they say well we don't -- -- deal with customers and we say fine.

Maybe ought to -- NM manufacturing business may be out of -- is something where you don't have to deal with customers.

And they buy into it and then they find some else to do because we are totally committed to the customer and if our employees or not.

I'm bored of that program then they're gonna go somewhere else.

Now a lot of I just -- an assembly -- and so -- hot hot button so it's a joke still -- always a pleasure good luck in retirement.

And good luck I would have been -- -- right.

Give thanks and you don't narrative the executive chairman Tom trying to lift the example -- 1% as the evil and -- that's the popular than this.

That'll do it we'll see tonight on fox --
