About an hour ago we've been poring through it so far what we know is that there are seventeen documents and -- 175 pages of -- -- writings -- correspondence.
-- in Arabic you see some of them there.
They -- -- date range in date from September of 06.
To April 2011 -- just on the eve of the raid by the seals.
And what's key here in the letters is that you see that he was corresponding with really the who's who.
Of al-Qaeda outside of Pakistan he was talking to the American Adam good Don he was also talking to leaders.
Of the al-Qaeda affiliate in Somalia also the al-Qaeda affiliate in Yemen and also the head of the -- -- Taliban.
So this really it really reinforces the reporting we've been doing here at fox over the last year.
That bin Laden was isolated in the compound but he was really very much a micro manager trying to shore up these different affiliates -- act to follow his -- now.
When the raid happened and he was killed there are some critics who were saying listen you're giving out information on safe house is all over you know the Middle East in the world.
And this is critical information that should not be made public at that time now making this public now are are we sacrificing any secrets -- for.
-- just based on what -- so far bill it doesn't look like it there were released sacrificing any secrets in the sense.
That this has been pretty widely reported since the raid one of the main headlines was caught my attention this morning in the writings is that -- bin Laden was extremely frustrated.
With the affiliates is that -- Qaeda in Iraq.
For a suicide bombing campaign that he killed so many innocent let's recently got a quote here from a letter in 2010 -- bin Laden.
Was really suggesting that al-Qaeda turn the page reads -- -- I plan to release a statement announcing that we are starting a new -- to correct the mistakes we made.
In doing so we shall reclaim god willing the trust of a large segment of those who lost their trust.
In the -- is the other bottom line so far.
Is this idea that there were different schools of thought on how bin Laden should really relate to these affiliates.
In Yemen Somalia in North Africa.
Adam Dunn the American felt that the court leadership of -- -- should lead this associate themselves from these groups.
Groups there's another school of thought that they should try and sort of build them leverage them -- two.
Broaden their base and enliven had added a different school of thought he felt that he would continue to advise them even though it -- that advice was falling on deaf ears is fascinating stuff thank you Catherine when you're -- -- more headlines -- -- Kaplan.
