Hi everyone I'm Laura Ingraham in tonight for Bill O'Reilly thanks for watching.
New job numbers are in for April and they are underwhelming to say the least.
We'll get to that shortly but first our top story as -- Maine now we've been covering a vicious assault.
That took place in Norfolk Virginia.
Two reporters for the Virginian pilot.
Dave Forster and march on the Sami we're driving home from a movie theater back on April 14.
What a mob of African American men descended on their -- cavalier.
Now apparently some of their Iraq -- the car and mr.
Forster got out to confront the attacker and as a result he was attacked and so -- -- -- Both took a week off work to recover from the assault but their own newspaper.
Did not report the story for two weeks.
The -- been critical of the Virginian pilot and believes editor Dennis Stanley did not cover the story because of its racial component.
While today Virginian pilot columnist -- Doherty shot back at the factor writing and I quote.
The reporters didn't deserve this act of aggression.
But not the pilot.
Does this Paper deserved to be kicked in the head by everyone from Fox's Bill O'Reilly to hundreds of our readers.
It was a lapse in judgment not to report -- -- violent mob on -- Norfolk street but not a left wing conspiracy.
The reaction has been obscenely.
Now it's worth noting that our request to the Norfolk police to release that 911 call that misery stop being made during the assault was denied.
At police claim that would disrupt -- ongoing investigation.
Now there has been one arrest in the case a sixteen year old whose name is not being released.
Shockingly some local residents don't seem surprised at all by the attack.
That is just a lag of just.
This is this tragic it truly is -- -- calorie -- -- says -- it's disappointing she says her family doesn't walk around this area at night.
-- in a house -- my children taken care of my house vote.
China being the we last spoke wheel summit twenty year old market who tells -- on -- side there's a culture here stick together to survive.
I asked if he has seen large groups of young men walking around the neighborhood at night.
And like -- playing very good and I bet that the level.
-- got a particular neighborhood goes it and people outside of the visit is that at the bottom and I was saddened to set it to the public can be good balance you know.
Marvin personal opinion is that your reporters should have known better than to drive through church Randall's son.
Based it'd been out ahead -- -- standpoint.
To the well daily lives and live I mean we would have been the same way -- them.
Wow well joining us now from Virginia beach state Parker.
He's a radio talk show host on W and I guess there.
Now Dave it's a -- watches across the country it may seem shocking to hear.
People say things like well they should come no one neighborhood.
Because obviously if this is the a situation were reversed and -- said that it would be.
Outraged people exposed to be welcome the United States America.
To walk where they wanna walk but was this area a particularly dangerous area that did that the reporters should not have been driving through.
I think if you look at the crime rates of the city of north again it's a little bit higher.
In that area but I want to address the the race issue right off the bat because there aren't the facts that we know.
And the feelings that have been expressed -- as you know just sometimes there can be a big difference between those two things the facts that we know.
Is there were no racial slurs heard hurled at these two reporters.
This young man and sixteen was arrested as you mentioned he's not going to be charged with a with a hate crime so those are the facts that we know what the feelings that have been expressed.
And boy they have been vehement and they have been quite loud.
-- the feelings are that there is some racial overtones.
But that is conjecture we can't prove that and Laura I think it I think it clouds over the real story here.
And that is they safety issue for many of those rather residents not to Senora but.
But there is something that fit in a similar fashion happens in communities all across America and their of course the other issues with a Virginian pilot.
You know I I delegate to the pilot image issue and a second but.
Let's say where I've got a group of 38 white kids.
Or more we don't really know the exact number.
And they were two African Americans individuals may be reporters maybe gotten a couple and their car.
And they descended upon that car and ENN news organizations were not either reporting on the or it was difficult to get that information let's -- from police I have a feeling.
The outrage would be expressed quite vehemently and certain certain circles.
And yet this case.
Two weeks go by no reports thank thank you know even asks of I don't -- that's -- foyer request but we -- we've asked for information from the police.
And it's not forthcoming maybe there's good reason for it fine.
But there is -- double standard here with the types of reporting have to use a racial slur.
To feel like this was it racially.
It charged act whether it was -- wasn't doesn't have to be a racial -- involved.
Well that is certainly the common thread from that people are feeling here in the community it Anderson -- the -- they just don't make sense.
I mean we have the two reporters now these are people who base their income their livelihood.
On ferreting out -- making sure that those facts are put forth an -- -- and truthful fashion.
They have given us -- one.
One record of what happened admit there was a group of 100 people on a Friday night.
That within a group of 100 people -- a group of thirty broke off surrounded the vehicle and some of them attacked them pulled the woman by the -- and beat her.
Now that's the that's the story we've been given.
I was writing about reporters out while I'm there or are they not know authority apparently her tonight pilot until they are prepared to report on us.
And -- but here's part of the disconnect with it would that small portion of the story.
And that is I've been asked repeatedly.
Tenet paid Parker stop saying there were thirty people involved why he keeps saying that.
Because I'm barring the information from your very own reporters that's why because the Norfolk Police Department is saying well they're only five people.
Well excuse me it was the two reporters who were there I would -- out of Iraq -- veracity of their statements.
All over the investigators who were not there are so there's a huge disconnect between five and thirty minute that's like a 600%.
Difference in people.
Now while again the editors at the Virginian pilot and they can bluster all they want about all the factors being too aggressive and they were kicked in the -- -- it's just ridiculous.
This is say this is an attack.
That should've been reported there are facts that are apparently not known yet let's get to the bottom of it and see what happens that's that to me that it seems like a common sense deal.
And or one.
What one more thing there have been a lot of conspiracy issues that have come up and about why the pilot did not put this forth sooner one that there's a multi million dollar investment project going on the waterfront here.
Also that there were made around elections also.
That all of the stuff is going on I think it was simply a really I had journalistic decision.
Yeah well I'll say I.
