Right now -- according alert for a pet owners across this country a dog and cat food recall is expanding after several brands are linked to a rare strain.

A Salmonella average for Obama's -- this story fresh from our New York City newsroom it is not just the past -- that are getting sick.

It's true -- and let me just say -- the top that we are gonna put all the different brands and products affected by this.

On our website want to make sure that you can check the food that you have in your house against the full list and it's a long list so again it'll be on line.

These are dry foods that are made by diamond pet foods that's out of gassed in South Carolina the plant that they have there is the plant in question and the biggest brand it probably affects the most people.

It's also killed dozens of dogs though the federal government doesn't track animal illnesses so that number may not tell the whole story.

As for the people who have gotten sick though the CDC says they all either came in contact with the dog food or with dogs that it eaten the dog food these people then didn't wash their hands.

And contracted the illness that way we should also mention that more than a dozen people who work at that plant in South Carolina have also gotten sick.
