It's morning again in America.
Today -- more men and women who go to work than ever before.
With interest rates -- about half the record highs of 1980.
Nearly 2000 families today will buy new.
More than at any time -- best for you.
Group -- That was Ronald Reagan's iconic mourning in America ad from his 1984 reelection campaign declaring the nation stronger than it had been four years earlier.
Now president Obama's team is out with a new ad called we're coming back.
Touting his leadership on the economy and other issues and it is being compared already to the Reagan -- in some circles take a look.
Instead of losing jobs were created.
Over four point two million so far and we're not there yet it's still too hard for two million.
But we're coming back because America's greatness comes from a strong middle class because you don't quit.
Fair comparison.
Michael Reagan as a political consultant and chairman of the Reagan group did he get it -- capture what your data's gone for back and that 84 at.
No.
We didn't capture at all because most people really understand what's going on back in 1984 with my father's had.
Things were getting better people were feeling better about themselves people were buying new homes people -- going to work.
But just not true today as you walk around American you talk the people in America.
There is that Jimmy Carter and the way -- that is going on out there in America nobody is feeling good about themselves right now.
A look at these last polls that have come out.
I mean there's one there's one -- -- -- -- question it really hit me.
The fact when they ask the question will your children be better off didn't you war.
And most people most people 65 -- that they will not be better off than in fact I am.
And when a father or mother should back it doesn't think that their child to be better off than they are.
That is just unbelievable.
And it is so.
You -- how people feel today so no he's trying to play.
He comparing geared your father's recovery -- economic recovery I should say.
Back in 1983 around this time is running for wreck for reelection the GDP growth rate under your dad was seven point 75.
Under President Obama at one point 625.
Back in 2011.
Job growth -- your dad was 3.4.
Million jobs under President Obama back in 2011 it was one point 84.
Millions of the numbers.
Would suggest that the recovery is not as strong as and your father but.
Then the implosion the economic implosion was in his -- Coming into office for your dad as it was for this president fair.
Well the what do -- say -- but if you're buying a home in your interest rates were at 18%.
Listen you know there was a real problem if you -- -- gas line.
And you didn't have an odd number plate so you couldn't get fuel today you had to wait till tomorrow.
I will tell you there are people who feel that they were absolutely -- depression.
And it wasn't going to get any better and Ronald Reagan pulled us out of that program but how they do -- same way candidate.
Lowering taxes.
That's what brought us out of that.
-- -- getting regulations off the back to business and industry that's what did it.
Not by putting more onerous regulations.
On everybody on the planet but in fact helping businesses grow not stopping them -- You know there's another part of his dad weren't where the president says that the -- the announcer says some set our best days were behind us but not him this is president Obama's dad.
And then there's an about Obama's SoundBite where he says don't bet against the American worker.
And -- -- detecting a shift Michael in.
In Sutton -- some earlier statements that the president has taken a lot of heat for that seem to be.
Critical of the American work ethic take a -- There -- a lot of things that make.
Foreign investors see the US is a great opportunity our stability our.
-- us are -- -- innovative free market culture.
But you know we've been all over the lazy I think over the last couple decades we've got to taken for granted -- people wanna come here and we are about their -- Selling America.
We've lost our ambition are our imagination and -- our willingness to.
Do the things that -- the golden gate bridge and Hoover Dam and unleash all the potential.
In this country.
Do you think the campaign understands that comments like that true or not.
Don't play well with the American people.
-- they really don't but there you go the blame game again it's not my fault look at that person truly their fault or not working or not.
We've lost your imagination that all you that you think Jimmy Carter was writing those winds.
For for all those people.
But -- the other question the Rasmussen poll the question about.
People can you come -- the United States American if you work hard.
Can you become rich only 32% of people said yes.
We have immigrants in this country because they came here.
To become rich.
To be able to grow like they couldn't do it in their countries and -- that think that today.
The very same people kongers say no you can't get rich in America.
Any more -- because you have a president that does nothing but punish the rich.
Four in fact job growth so every time you become successful he punishes you more.
And what happens you end up leaving the country and going elsewhere to create jobs that used to create America.
You know use the term Malays and and I joked in our first segment -- -- -- -- but -- they were depressing me because of these numbers.
And Gaza like that is reported -- in he does have a -- But ja -- on the pulse of the American people right now.
-- it seems like people need to be lifted up Michael that they need somebody to lift them up it's tough to do when the numbers are what they are.
But we look back at your dad the great communicators and and just found one example of his ability to do it to to just lift us.
On our spirit something that we all remembered when he died.
Not so long ago here's his farewell address where he talked about the shining city on the hill.
My friends we did -- we we're just marking time.
We made a difference.
We made the city stronger.
We made this city for years.
And we left it in good hands.
All in -- Not bad.
Not bad at all.
So.
-- by.
God bless you.
And god bless the United States of America.
It worked because it was true.
It was -- true -- key word there is we.
You don't hear the word I was when Reagan it was always we.
Us were working together United States America you know my my sister Maureen and I talked about this the library the other day when I was appearance Sunday.
I said you know.
Our dad hit running for president would be like your son getting his eagle -- That's how -- looked at it was like it's eagle scout badge and he really really honored that so much.
That -- the American people we have so much cash items that we can handle anything.
Michael Reagan thank you very much.
