On the hill it happening at the moment house Republicans trying to block deep cuts -- US military.

-- live look at the house floor in a moment -- lawmakers say that these cuts will decimate our armed forces.

Steve Centanni is live -- the -- to break all this down in Washington what's happening in the house.

At the moment -- Well the debate continues over that whether to cut the military -- -- make cuts elsewhere in the votes expected later on today.

The defense department of course stand to lose about 10% of its budget if this so called sequester goes through the end of the year.

Now this all happened because the super committee failed to reach agreement on cuts during that dead ceiling crisis and so.

These cuts are automatic unless congress acts to change them but congress can't quite agree on how to change the here's Budget Committee chairman -- right.

It would decimate our military -- the very moment when our men and women are fighting in Afghanistan.

So we're saying is we don't wanna lose the savings -- DC to cut government spending and other places of government.

And the problem lies right there exactly where do you make those cuts bill what are Democrats -- about all -- Well they say the Republicans want to make cuts in all the wrong places like Medicaid school lunch program supplemental nutrition assistance for the poor.

Here's Chris -- how on the top Democrat on that budget -- Well they have a totally lopsided approach that once again protects these special interest and the result is they whacked everybody else.

Now some say what happens in the house will amount to little more than a political statement because in the senate majority leader Harry Reid says the bill not passing list.
