Are here today Debbie Thomas not Debbie Debbie Thomas is here she you're the director of shot -- life and -- and -- Sharon again that's me VP communications PR UN foundation good to have you guys here thinking yeah so we should -- -- life right.
You guys had an event today in Times Square and this isn't this is an organization.
That started off just recently it's and it's little it's -- it's -- little infancy stage but this is something that is so important we're looking at some video here now.
What happened in Times Square this this morning.
Tell us what shot a place that's.
Sure -- I don't like is a campaign by the United Nations Foundation.
And it's actually.
The newest campaign that helps to rally Americans around the idea that we can expand access to vaccines for children in developing countries.
Every twenty seconds a child is dying from a vaccine preventable death.
And we know that -- something we can do about it there's a cure to this.
Terrible problem and it's a vaccine so we're asking Americans -- acts to pat -- and to Tony for vaccines.
And this was our opportunity to get out there and to share our message and are are -- -- and our PSA in the busiest -- action and tomorrow.
You do that in times where you see it up on that on that huge monitor their -- -- flat when you can't you can't miss it.
I'm very quickly one of the best ways to get attention for causes of course is to have celebrities who had -- points.
And and the -- is involved now let's see.
What she has to say about this.
I love whole idea of global motherhood and especially on Mother's Day been I have.
Just really strong feelings about being on the right side of history and since we have a cure we have these vaccines we have the Madison.
It's just about getting.
The medicine to the children in developing countries.
So parent people watching this right now say okay what -- -- need to do doing it goes sent money somewhere -- ready to log on.
How can you go from sitting here watching this to actually having an effect of these developing countries on -- children who would not normally get back to.
Everyone right now can have an impact and as we heard Amanda -- we saw with.
The hundreds of thousands of moms who have already come together to rally around this campaign.
As we -- in Times Square today by raising your voice contacting your member of congress donating.
Organizing your communities like these moms have done on line.
In their clubs around their schools everyone -- tent to be aware of the message that vaccines are cost effective way for us to make sure that everyone has a chance for the -- So when you go to shot at life dot org what kind of information we have we have the website up there right now and you can you know I think if I don't my glasses on I could see.
But what kind of things where what what does that -- tell you that you -- do what kind of things can you do from now website.
-- at the website you can find out first of all why the value of vaccines matters why we know that -- -- cost effective way.
For our tax dollars for our resources to be spent.
In a way that helps make sure that kids can get a shot at their -- electrical learn about how it's done to the United Nations to organizations that work hard our partners such as.
Rotary international and others who do this work and -- going to be able to find out how you can either.
Donate raise your voice how you can be raising your your your opinion and raising the profile -- this issue with your member of congress those tools are there because it's a simple.
Effective and a proven way that we can make a difference in the lives of these people that it -- An example of something -- a child in in in what what country and what are they going through now without this vaccine.
I actually like to to give me an exam.
All of them not there I'm not there myself and I think that it's kind of and that's powerful stories the shot -- team was recently and -- and -- And we -- there delivering measles vaccines and -- vaccines are available.
I'm usually in very remote area is and others would often walk for miles out in the hot hot sun with their -- on their back.
To receive these vaccines and we -- on half -- she Watkins said she walked fifteen my house.
With your baby on her back to receive this vaccine.
And she said the reason she did that was because -- -- last two children to measles and she would not -- -- -- Tampa.
So the stories are amazing we -- them every day and it's the power of mother had.
It's this idea that we want to -- all of -- children shot at a healthy life.
But we also -- -- -- he's not there is a shot at dreaming of their children's teacher.
And obviously it's not just mothers out there that you want to you reach out to I'm not a -- yet I don't.
But you know I obviously would want to be involved in this dads out there people anybody can can get started miss -- on.
How okay so how -- and you know how much it groundswell is this happening right.
Now we've already seen literally hundreds of thousands of people go to shot -- life -- work.
Tell people that vaccines -- cost effective way for us all make have that help people have that impact and get access to health around the world.
And that health for children around the world does -- matter where children live every child deserves a shot at a healthy like it's a bipartisan issue.
It's cost effective solution and it's a way that people can say that that's the way that we want to make sure that we're helping.
Every talk about helping people outside of the United States and inevitably you'll hear or you'll see on an you know -- it's a little Twitter conversation.
We have to focus on the children here -- yes there are children here that are suffering obviously it's very important.
-- you have a response to people who say why we need to be concerned about what's happening within our borders -- You know it's really interesting because -- life is more important than any other life and what we like to talk about is that.
When you talk about -- sure there's not a question of accepts if you want the vaccines you can get them.
And what we're really talking about in developing countries is the question of access we're trying to expand access to those who need it the most and they want -- vaccines that they're coming for them.
All right so Debbie your mother happy Mother's Day thank you and congratulations having kids yeah I.
