Story all parents should -- now Washington State is in the middle of its worst outbreak of whopping cough in decades almost thirteen hundred cases have been reported -- officials believe that number could climb.

They blame Washington's philosophical exemption law that allows parents opt out of giving their kids vaccines.

So whose choice should it be to vaccinated children the states.

Why do you think it should be be parents.

Right rather than the states when we see these things like whopping cough outbreaks now.

Well Alison you're right I jest and it exercised my exemption -- on Tuesday.

And I believe that it's the parent's right to take charge of their child health BK is.

I am responsible for them 24 sat in until they're eighteen years old my eldest son suffered a vaccine reaction -- nine month old.

Well it's a complicated issue because this is a decision that a parent is making for their child but it doesn't just affect their child.

It affects other people and other children.

In the community and we know that in states that have mandates for vaccines those immunization rates are higher and the more children that are vaccinated.

The more herd immunity we have the better the vaccines work.

And that will -- boy -- even vaccinated children.

Coming down -- Vaccine preventable illness and let's show our viewers the states now there are twenty states that do have these philosophical.

Exemptions well right now we're showing you the ones where there have been outbreaks of whopping cough.

Washington State California and Vermont.

And Becky those are the states that -- do you have these philosophical exemptions how can you say they're not connected.

I honestly do not.

Feel that they are connected and we -- seen a lot and -- efficacy problems with with the vaccines.

And I believe that.

I'm I understand that I'm taking a risk if other people want to back beneath their children.

They are protected but again it goes back to my family's personal.

Genetic history with problems with autoimmune -- -- tour which I don't think our uncommon.

Yes I don't think I should be sacrificing my children -- that hurt yeah I gave birth to that.

Understood and obviously this is a complicated issue and parents in all these states.
