Frank it is the latest fallout from president Obama's controversial health care law.

But Catholic university in Ohio says it's being forced to and health care insurance for its students because the law is quote morally repugnant.

And way too expensive.

-- right now yeah.

Michael heard and he is the vice president of advancement for Franciscan university in -- -- bill Ohio morning Michael.

Good morning Steve great to be with you it's great to have you as well so.

We're gonna break this into two parts the first is and we've been talking about how the department of health and human services mandates that everybody's got to provide except the Catholic Church.

It has to provide contraceptives sterilization and abortion causing drugs.

On their health care plans and your organization said what.

What that we're -- Passionately Catholic university and so as soon as this announcement was made we said we cannot comply with the sort of worth.

It goes against our deeply held moral and religious beliefs.

And we will fight it and we have been fighting.

So this is this is attack on our First Amendment freedom and that makes perfect sense because how can you -- -- you -- you had a fidelity pledged there that you took.

How can you teach one thing in class and then turn around and do something completely different.

Exactly see we were the first Catholic university to take the oath of fidelity.

And so if we're in the classroom in our our our sciences and our -- program saying one thing.

And then we're telling our students that were doing something else with our money.

-- this is unconscionable I would have never mention that in this day and -- in America.

That the federal government would compel us to do something and answer religious beliefs also when it comes just to the cost of coverage you you took a look down the road and you realize that that.

That.

Insurance policy that currently cost a student 600 bucks would double next year.

And tripled the year after that because you've got to expand coverage.

That's right and so as we peeled back the onion first we had religious and moral concerns with it.

But then as we -- kept going we found out in March that it would double what we have to charge our students and then it would triple.

That's something that's both moral and an economic injustice in my opinion and in the affordable health care act is simply unaffordable for our students.

That's unfortunate so going forward what are the students gonna have to do.

Yeah I -- a week since we announced this decision.

You know we've gotten actually positive feedback from the students.

And we were under no compunction to require the help that have health insurance but we thought it was a good thing for students have -- their parents or other coverage.

And now we're asking students to do their best to find other means to provide for their health care.

And this is a situation we as a university -- a Catholic university never wanted to be but we feel now that the government's compelling us to do this.
